Nah, says the only Mexican girl in her kindergarten class. This is insulting. I grew up poor and Mexican. I did not ever feel tempted to go "into criminal activities." I did not let what others thought inhibit my goals and dreams. I define myself. This rhetoric is what is wrong with people. It might have taken me longer to earn advanced degrees, but now call me Dr.
cheekjulie The money comes from savings from lower healthcare cost, elimination of the welfare system and the huge administrative cost that goes along with it, lower crime rates mean hire less police and judges and other legal cost, and higher productivity because people will be happier doing what they love so they will be more incline to work harder. If the entire cost of the basic income program cost 100 billion dollar, and the expenditure of those cost is 110 billion dollar, then the government will actually save 10 billion dollar a year. And people don't sit on the money that they receive from basic income. They will spend it and it will circulate around, unlike wealthy people who stack their billions away and never spend it. Also with a basic income we will never experience any depression or recession. People will always have food and shelter regardless how bad the economy is doing.
this social economic system produces extreme inequalities, therefore the world economic system must be changed, as the only means to fight social inequality and corruption
Though it starts with two facts this summary quickly relies on assumptions to identify problems and develop partial solutions. Solutions that haven't worked as long as they've been tried. For instance, are social inequality and economic inequality the same thing? If they are not, it is unlikely they would have the same solutions. Worse the 3 solutions presented foretell a limited view of the world: More government interference in our lives. I had higher expectations of Khan Academy.
+K D Harwood (Kirk Deb) I think it's the social sciences overall that need a very serious reform. Khan Academy generally just imparts common knowledge. Such contemporary absurdities as the gender pay gap and the "glass ceiling effect" need to be addressed from within sociology itself.
+K D Harwood (Kirk Deb) Me too, this socialist view has nothing to do with medicine and shows us how poor is the historical-political world view of Khan Academy, extremely disappointing.

Oh my again with the wage gap. The wage gap is the average earnings of women and men who work full time, and it doesn't take into consideration occupation, hours worked, or job positions. If women really earned less than men for the same job, it baffles me that men would have jobs at all as businesses could save so much more money. Please don't spread lies that will only create further divides between men and women.
Don't say that inequality is bad because it's morally wrong - it just makes you sound jealous and like you're blaming rich people for problems you've caused yourself. Call it bad because it makes more people bad people.
Yeah, there's quite a bit of just straight up wrong information here. Particularly everything you said about women. They pay gap is a persistent myth people keep repeating that just won't go away.

***** You are right; probably not. Academia's response to social Darwinism killed any intellectual integrity that was possible to have. But we, the non-retarded people of this Earth, can think and write about social matters. I believe this is what writers, storytellers and poets are for, ultimately.
PkrBarMovie Which is fine. I don't have a problem with people talking about society and its norms, but let's not pretend that it is a science or that it should be taken seriously. Like philosophy.
Hmm... That's an interesting way to put it. Would you disagree if I said that understanding physics or biology is to an extent less important than understanding society and how it functions? I mean this by virtue of how society affects your life in the modern world. Getting rid of ideologies like fascism or communism, or bad economic practices were some of the greatest achievements throughout the 20th century, and had a much more meaningful impact on our lives than we tend to understand. Also, I am not sure I understand why it is that philosophy ought not be taken seriously. It is the science of human thought. I think that it is, just like literature, an extremely important aspect of an individual's growth. It enhances critical thinking and understanding of ourselves and other people. This, in turn, makes for a better society, which is more important than science for reasons mentioned above. Science is important for engineers of all varieties, yet social sciences are an important theoretical background for writers and thinkers, for those who, in the end, reform society. If you are saying that Shakespeare, Voltaire, Dostoevsky, and all that bunch ought not be taken seriously, then I'm not sure how this could be amended in you. It seems like a discrepancy of values, and you would be, by popular understanding of intellectuals (scientists included), on the losing side of the argument. What are your thoughts?
@@jameseldridge3445 But most civilizations in history functioned in a way that most of the citizens were equal. Sure, there need to be leaders to help organize, but what we currently have is an abused system where the "leaders" are siphoning money away from the middle and lower class, leaving those two groups with less money while the rich continue to gain more and more. You may be against social equality, but can you at least admit that the current capitalist system is flawed? People are getting more and more irritated, and before you know it, there will be an uprising (As has been displayed numerous times in history when the top abuses the bottom too much).
