Due to the comments being said down below, about the guy in the beginning of the video NOT being Trayvon Martins dad, i did further research and I am FULLY AWARE of who that guy is now. Thanks 👍🏽
Ms.Milkywayy The guitarist's symbolism was that an innocent man can be lured into thinking he could express himself through music but he is not ultimately valued at all. When he shows up later, dead, it's saying we we'll keep listening to his music but not care about the man's life. SZA is both SZA the celebrity and Lady Liberty meant to show how easily were distracted by the American Dream and our stars. Great conversation and thank you Ms. Milkywayy for resisting a peek before the react. Had to be hard.
You might have forgotten about the the one that looks like grim reaper, the one where there was a white horse scene. While they're dancing you can see 3 cars with different colors: red, pale / rusty (the one that's burning) and the police car as black while the fourth is the white horse. They represent as the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse...
You guys are the first that I've seen make the Jim Crow connection so quickly, or at all. I don't know if you caught it, but there was also a cloaked figure riding in on a white horse in the background that was representing Death.
I'm glad you guys did the research on the video and talked about it. That's what we need right now. I definitely subscribing because of you guys taking the time to think before they make it illegal.
This is by far the best reaction to this song I have ever received. I know I got the message the very first time I saw the video, but I had to watch the video like eight more times since then. I'm glad that most of the reactors picked up on the symbolism of the video, but some people, like my father, fear that not everybody will get the message. But I'm glad you guys got it.
"If you don't get it, it's not for you." I disagree. It is especially for those who don't understand. And it is the responsibility of those who do understand to teach. Gambino just schooled the world. 💞
I like your reaction. I've seen many reaction about this 'this is america'. I agree with you, and this what we have to see behind. I'm Korean, and I like this.
I think him not wearing a shirt represents the objectification of black men as sex objects. At 3:20 in your video, where he stands there like a real man, showing his strength with his back to the camera, flexing his back, he looks like a real man just ever so briefly, his whole vibe brought me to tears, then when the camera comes to face him, he slips into a non-threatening pose, almost a caricature - gambino is a very talented artist
The chickens are the fear mentality between the racial divide between black and white peoples. Glover and the guitarist are wearing slave color themes. The red cloth carrying the guns represent the tribe the Maroons and blood the ultimate cost but we act like we still can’t see. The cell is social media and the prison complex. The suicide is mental health being ignored. The white horse represents one of the horses of the aployclse from the Book of Revelations death. That we are living hell on earth. Black women being ignored. The youth in uniform and being blindsided by propaganda. The cars also represent how the mindset hasn’t changed from the 1970s. Also how even the church gets lost in capitalism just like black culture. Death is being brought by the law. In the beginning in the Jim Crow minstrel dance Glover shows how he is a puppet and how he is conflicted.
Ok so i have watched This is America video again for the 10th time. I just relized the parts after the shootings Gambino passes the gun to a child. The gun is rapped in a red cloth gently and with care (americas protection for guns). To me the red cloth shows the blood that has been shed with that gun. Notice its a child he passes it too, showing how easy guns get in the hands of kids. The child has a school uniform on, so that child may take it to school. Also the part when he stands pointing without a gun in his hand and the children run. it could mean hes passed the gun on. Now the children around him are dancing having fun and begin to run because the gun has simply gotten in the hands of a child in result school shootings happen. (Or it just shows an unarmed black man) I could be reaching
Nah, I think you got it on lock. When he passed it to the child in the red cloth I was thinking about the blood that was shed but I didn't quite pick up on when he handed it to the child until you said it. So yeah I think you got it right and I agree!
Hey I had an interpretation of the last portion of the vid. After "I got the plug on Oaxaca..." You can see that after he smoked the joint, the man that was shot in the beginning is now back in his chair (still hooded but not dead), the riots are over, the cars are old as opposed to luxury cars but they're also not on fire anymore, there's a hot girl on one of them, he's dancing again and happy. It's all distractions and coping. Like weed is helping him cope because in his mind the man never died, there is no chaos or rioting, life is good. And you could argue maybe he's coping/self-medicating with weed, or maybe weed is making him distracted or blind to the problems and is therefore a problem. Then the video switches back to almost pitch black in there and the music twists, lyrics change up, and then everyone is running. Also seems in the ending that black people are being chased (hunted/killed) by white people.
Ryan ohhh shoot yeahhh!!! You right about the weed part. I would assume thats what that scene was about. And everyone has their own interpretation on the ending...they were all running idk...
What if his facial expressions are like showing that he was waking up with what is happening around him but ignores it or gets pulled back in into the music and dancing and such?
So the dancers are a distraction from the violence and the mass murders black on black violence police brutality suicides stealing everything. People are distracted by the trends and attention span is easily swayed from addressing serious issues to just dancing and partying. So i feel like also the phones represented how we just wana record and take vids bt not participate in actual issues. Talk and no action. His dancing is lit though. Feel like the running at the end is a representation of A LOT. Coumd be him runing away from police, gangs, problems, women and America too. Damn.
Never heard anyone point out that there are chickens in the background. Maybe they are america's chickens coming home to roost ( A quote once used by Malcolm X when President Kennedy was assassinated).
i saw that the guy that guy with the guitar is not Trayvon Martin's dad but he represents Trayvon's dad that is why he look like Travon Martin's dad. there is so much meanings there!!!
I read something that said they believe the chickens are in reference to a quote by Malcolm X about "chickens coming home to roost." Meaning, what goes around, comes around, and violence begets violence. Did you notice the man who committed suicide by jumping off the top railing? I also think there is a nod to the prison industrial complex due to the venue. It looked like the inside of any prison in the U.S.
I saw the instance with the chickens differently. There were a bunch of guys on and around a car watching the chickens and talking. There was one guy on the roof of the car throwing cash, making it rain. I saw this as a cock fight. Gambling. Gratuitous violence for entertainment and money, the literal interpretation. Figuratively it could also illustrate the hedonistic capitalist system we live under and the way the powerless are treated. Commodities to be abused for profit and cheap thrills, until they are used up and discarded or dead.
Great insights from you both, thank you. Calvin The Second in the un-dyed clothes of slavery was a take i never thought of, thanks. Maybe hes also "black" music, once you entertain white america we dont care who the "person" is?? We just want you in persona??
To stop the blurriness with an auto focus camera, put the camera in focus on something BEHIND your talent. The everything in front of that point should stay in focus. (i.e. focus the camera on the poster behind you.
Y'all missed quite a bit. The point of the video was the world will put all these things in front of you to distract you from all the crap going on in the world.
It's a shame that all the black folks reactions I'm watching are the ones concentrating on his dance moves rather than what's really going on in the video. It's mostly targeted at his fans, ironically!
Due to the comments being said down below, about the guy in the beginning of the video NOT being Trayvon Martins dad, i did further research and I am FULLY AWARE of who that guy is now. Thanks 👍🏽
Ms.Milkywayy he posed in silence for exactly 17secs - the parkland shooting .

harasnicole books yeah we talked about it in the video 😊
I'm glad you guys did the research on the video and talked about it. That's what we need right now. I definitely subscribing because of you guys taking the time to think before they make it illegal.
Yeah that's somethings a lot of others peoples didn't and make them kinda miss a lot of point.
Can you believe this is trending no.1 around the world apart from America?
As soon as they get the chance they gonna "Kap" him.

L-Y3T thank you! And yeah people will ALWAYS miss a message when its deep
OMG y’all know each other!!! I see him in Johnny Odell mashups all the time. I hope they use your reactions soon

I think the last part was a reference to the movie "get out" where he was being taken to a dark place.
Or you've read this elsewhere and pasted it as your own comment...
Or just either did the research or thought deeper about it.
This had a very,very...deep...deep...message👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!!

You dont see the gun in the start, when you see his back, but suddent he have one and shots the guy!
Easy to get guns in USA
bootlegDENMARK I didn’t even realize that until now lol god damn it
The running at the end it also represent the movie "get out" as the same of the scene of the black people darkest place as he [gambino] running away

Someone else commented on a different reaction that it might of been Lawyers, media and doctors. Shit gets deeper than that.
That were chasing Donald*
Love this reaction... well done
Great video👍🏼I was shocked at the things I saw😶

YUP! mhm! I agree totally!!
Never heard anyone point out that there are chickens in the background. Maybe they are america's chickens coming home to roost ( A quote once used by Malcolm X when President Kennedy was assassinated).
It's crazy how nobody knows the pose in the beginning in the Jim Crow pose. Happy y'all do lol
Yo her voice I just can't take lol, she made that sound yee yee yee!!

CrudupREACTS I got you

Regarding those chicken. What about those are pointing to "Rural Murica"?? Greetz from Germany :o)
Well done...great break down

You guys are so funny and cute 😊
best reaction
You might have forgotten about the grim reaper, the one where there was a white horse scene. It's actually in the bible.
D ! We stated that from Genius, in the video 😊
Police car in the same scene as the white horse... same colours of white and black, signifying modern day symbolism of Death...
"Eee eee eee eee!!" lmao
Was the ending seen from The Movie Get Out.
Name intro song? 😍💯
Please!! I need it 💯🔥
What’s the song called in the intro???
Great insights from you both, thank you.
Calvin The Second in the un-dyed clothes of slavery was a take i never thought of, thanks. Maybe hes also "black" music, once you entertain white america we dont care who the "person" is?? We just want you in persona??
What's the remix of the intro song

That was not Trevon's father.
good reaction video. ur cute guyz.
Quite the contrary, not understanding the messages is more reason to warch and dissect this.
I agree with you so much yes it's slavery!!
If this doesn't make ppl wake up...then nothing will. They are forever in the matrix.
Yup everyone misses thr point the first time seeing it. ...
That was not Trayvon dad that was a look alike
I did not notice the person being thrown off the ledge.
Keep rewatching the scene over and over again and you would see the guy being "thrown" off. To me it looked like he jumped off.
He wasn't thrown off, it represents the high suicide rate in the white community. Stay woke means to stay informed.
Y'all missed quite a bit. The point of the video was the world will put all these things in front of you to distract you from all the crap going on in the world.
ummmm, I think we covered that. But ok.
Yo the guy playing the guitar is trayvon martin father
It's not his father. It's an actor/performer named Calvin the Second.
I think the chickens represent chicken George from roots
kids with masks and phones = internet anonymity
bread and circuses.
funny, how people see the chickens but not the rapper wannabe's makin' it rain.
Louisville! Holla
Not Trayvon Martin's father!!!
its not his dad
Your not wrong
It's a shame that all the black folks reactions I'm watching are the ones concentrating on his dance moves rather than what's really going on in the video. It's mostly targeted at his fans, ironically!
Umm, did you watch the whole video?
Funny intro
He wearing confederate pants
Just sad..
