gabriel guevara Only when the humbucker is switched to a single coil. The Trad Pro II has a true coil split thus the hum. It really depends on the amp. If it's a high gain amp then yes. I use an isp decimator II to quite things down. Works like a charm.
Yeah I have one too and they really are brimming with awesomeness!! Evidently Andertons didn’t snap them ALL up as I got mine from GuitarGuitar in Birmingham. However, it was pre-owned so I guess it could’ve snuck it’s way to Birmingham 🤷🏼♂️ But yeah they really are incredible - I didn’t know they were a sort of rarity in this country though. Interesting
Rob Chapman Don't know if anyone's pointed this out yet but you guys spread some incorrect information around 6:20 The amount of boost is changeable via an internal trimpot. So it's not "10dB or nothing" as you said, but actually an entire range from 0 to 10. Just want to keep correct information flowing :) maybe you guys will put a little annotation on at that time with the correct info. Thanks!
I just bought one in wine red. I stripped it and took all the bells and whistles off. Went back with 50's wiring and duncan slash pickups. This is now a really incredible axe!
the tone signature of this guitar is distinctly good for blues in my view. It is raw and untamed yet very clear. I played one yesterday. It is an excellent guitar and I am seriously considering buying a used one I can get that's in excellent condition.
Hey, that 10 db boost, you *CAN* adjust it. Take a screwdriver and pop off the back plate with the battery cover. There's a pot in there that you can dial back. They actually come stock at about 7db, you can turn it up or down.
I decided I wanted a merlot finish Pro II 7 years ago because of the guitar the Captain plays in this video. Managed to get myself one and its been my favourite guitar ever since. Plays better than any other guitar ive had at any price point
After playing one of these in a second hand shop, and loving the awesome playability, and it's light unchambered weight, I bought it (used) for $1350.00. I like it enough that my LP Custom has collected about an inch of dust in its cutaway from sitting unused on its stand. The reasons I like it so much are explained in the video. The only caveat is the poor quality of all of the electronics except for the pickups. If you buy one, figure on getting a battery jack to replace the rotten battery holder on the back plate. You should then try to find higher quality push-push pots to replace the lousy originals. I couldn't locate any, so I had to settle for push-pull pots. Lastly, I can't stand chrome on a Lester, so I replaced all of the hardware with aged nickel, including the addition of nickel pickup covers. She's dialed in now, and it's highly doubtful that she'll be going anywhere soon.
That first jam is rad...and the second, damn yall rip, and captain is killing it, you guys should work on a song together, and record it legitlly since you do have access to studio and stuff, because this is so A game shredding
Because of this video I bought this very guitar (in fact it is the one chappers is playing with a 50s neck profile). I was searching for the fitting les paul for months and because of you I did find it. I am absolutely satisfied with my paula.
Peter Knack I love it. I haven't played my SG Standard since I bought the LP. That Super 57 is a great pup. My LP has the 50's neck profile and my SG has the 60's neck profile. I thought the 50's neck would be a problem. But I actually prefer it. Easier for me to do open chords.
I did end up getting one of these about 6 months ago. I got the Heritage Cherry Sunburst model. 50's neck profile. Love it. It's the one Chappers is holding in the beginning of the video.
Wow! My guitar is almost identical to the one Lee is holding at the beginning of this video, except mine has a flame pattern to the top. Mine's even a 2013 year model. Oh, and that LP Traditional Pro II was a special deal through Guitar Center, just in case anybody doesn't know. BTW, the Traditionals are the best deals out there for a standard type LP. Anywhere from $1000 to $3000 less than the "regular" LPs. But I can't tell the difference between them. Rob, I take my "scratch plates" off too!
I own that cherry burst. It is such a versatile wood. Every time I suffer from GAS, i just play that guitar. No other guitar I wanted can come close to that and thus this beast saves me a ton of money!
I got one of those with 50s neck in iced teaburst last fall from guitar center and took it home with me to sweden. It's an absolute beast with those coilsplits, you can almost go from clean to dirty with the boost and splits set up. Makes me smile everytime I play it through my marshall jcm 800.
I really did hesitantly buy a 2011 Les Paul Traditional pro 2. I wasn’t too impressed when it came in the UPS truck with the driver shielding himself with my LP box from my little Jack Russell as I ran out to grab it and didn’t care about the dog. She’s a big dog in a little body. Anyway I put some nanoweb elixirs on it and haven’t put it down in 10 years lol 🎸 Love the neck and the power it throws. Great guitar. Thanks for the confirmation guys ❤️
I played one of these at my local big box guitar shop here in the US and I must say, this is one outstanding Lester. It will be my next Les Paul. It just has so many tone variations that it's a must have addition to my 2009 LP Traditional and my 2012 LP Jr. Special with dual Humbuckers. The 10db boost was most noticeable when engaged on the clean channel of a Fender Blues Deluxe. It took it from the amazing Fender clean tone to a nice buttery distortion with the perfect amount of gain.
MyGenSucks you are right but the minute you pull it out of the case and play a lot you get wear and tear. I got a beater les paul and a gem series studio I use most of the time. Look for a used traditional. Some people buy these things and trade them in. The trad I got was used but like new. At 10.5 lbs it's kinda of heavy but I guess you got to man up some times.
Thank you for this review. I just got a used one of these from my local music store and I wasn't sure what it was exactly. Mine is the Inverness green one.
These are very comparable to my 2013 LP Studio Deluxe II '50's. They have those same push-push pots and 10dB boost. The Traditional Pro II gets the binding that the SD II doesn't but my SD II gets an all gloss finish. Also, mine has a 490R(?) in the neck pos and a BurstBucker at the bridge. They sound much alike as well. I hadn't heard much at all about mine and now I sorta know why. It was probably unique to Guitar Center but it's good to see some of the features elsewhere.
I'm not sure if someone has said this already, but the reason the Standards are more expensive are: prettier top, different back finish, more color options, asymmetrical neck profile, compound fingerboard radius, BurstBucker pickups. All of those things add up to quite a bit of extra production cost. That said, the Trad Pro IIs are pretty sweet guitars, for you guys in the UK who've never run into them.
I just bought one of these yesterday at GC(Minneapolis, Mn) With the Floyd Rose. There is a boost adjustment pot inside the back control cavity. So you can adjust from 0-10 db of boost.
I like the idea of the boost knob.. I use an MXR micro amp myself which does the same thing but nice to have it built into the guitar.. The drummer in my band is loud so I have to boost a lot for solos.. Great demo guys..;-)
The man dressed like a teenager on the right plays faster, but the one on the left plays better and has way more feeling. Good video, I'm wishing to buy one of these.
Lee is right on when he talks about a Gibson Les Paul into a Marshall tube amp. There is some kind of magic that happens. Those two Les Paul's are just smokin' hot. I am torn on which one I like best.
I have this exact guitar (merlot color one) and I have to say...BEST GUITAR OF ALL DAMN TIME. Great for the price AND more versatile than you could imagine. 10/10
These were such a fantastic value, it's a real shame they don't make them anymore. Really nice pickups (the neck '57 Classic is fantastic), coil-splitting versatility and a really clean boost that is surprisingly useful. And yes, you can adjust the amount of gain; you're not stuck with 10dB. There's an adjustable pot inside the cavity. Set it as low as you want it. I got a 2014 model (oddly enough the serial number shows it was built in 2011, but it's stamped "2014 model") with a really nice flamed top that's as nice as most Standards I've seen. They still show up used on GC, and they even have one or two brand new, but otherwise you risk it on ebay or craigslist. This was a popular model and I can only speculate they discontinued it because it was outselling more expensive models. Great guitar all around. I'd never spend what they want on the top models, but also don't feel like I got any less guitar.
Great vids fellas - I bought a Honey Burst Pro 2 from Andertons and love it - single coil on neck pup with a bit of boost is awesome for a more over driven Strat sound. Quite a weighty piece and I like the fat 50's neck.
You can adjust the amount of boost via a trim pot on the control cavity. Great guitars, received mine yesterday. Only issue is opening the battery compartment!
I believe there's a trim pot inside the control cavity where you can adjust the amount of db boost. Not something you could do on the fly obviously but you could adjust it to your taste and leave it.
If your looking to buy. Mine seems little tinny on the top end, same as some the leads do on here but could be my crappy amp.All the combinations you can make are dope.Stays in tune for weeks. Extremely well made instrument.Well worth two thousand dollars new. Would buy again. The Alpine White looks very expensive and the sound is too. Thanks for the post
i always try to to stick to local shops rather than big retailers. WAY cheaper prices, little maintenance charges, and much better quality in terms of what you're buying.
I have a 2009 LP Traditional Plus. It's basically a '59 LP without the bumble bee caps. It also has the "swiss cheese" weight relief, but still weighs in just under 10lbs. The 2013 LP Traditionals are made with no weight relief and have orange drop capacitors. So those are even closer to a '59. My LP TRAD + sounds close enough to a '59 for me, but I wish I would have held out for the 2013 model, just 'cause.
Musicians Friend and Guitar Center are technically the same. One is the online retailer the other is the Brick and Mortar chain of stores. Both are technically the same and have the guitars available.
Loved the last couple minutes! Thanks for that. People have been bitching about you guys trying to sell stuff and it's getting annoying... That's been the intent the whole time. But you guys do great open minded reviews and demonstrations.
Actually, with the 10dB boost pot, if you open the control cavity, you can adjust how much of that 10dB you're actually using. Gibson sends them out set to about 60%. Dialing it all the way up to 10 does induce a little bit of buzzing into your signal chain. I have mine set to about 75-80%.
Yeah that was finally a really great and enjoyable video :) Don't get me wrong, the others from the new room were ok too but in this one the sound, the cuts and the jokes were just purrrfect.
I own 3 guitars, but still don't think that it is enough... My favorite that I have is the SRV Fender strat, but still need a Gibson Les Paul... Also I'm looking into get an Orange, or Marshal Cabinite, and head...
That's true, I didn't realize the price on these, $1399 pound is solid. But if you're after a Standard, then the Custom's not too far away, especially second hand. I own an ES339 (post-2011 when they fixed the terrible neck joins) and love it, but that's not enough to make me fly Gibson's colours until they lift their manufacturing standards. For a similar price you could get a guitar with a similar tone, a better feel, and not have to worry about changing something after spending plus $1000.
I have the 2012 version of the wine red LP Lee's playing and it is just a KILLER guitar. Like in the video, it's hard to understand how the Trad Pro II can have more features and cost less than the Standard. (Does not lacquering the back and neck *really* save that much on production costs???) The 60s neck on the Trad Pro II is not as paper-thin as the "60's neck" that came on the 2013 Studio editions but still nowhere near as fat as the baseball bat 50s neck. The true coil splits actually sound like single coils, and the boost IS adjustable through the rear panel. The Trad Pro II is a ridiculously good guitar. I might buy other LPs, but I'm not getting rid of this one.
Sort of, James. I hand polished the back, sides, and neck with a very mild guitar polish (MusicNomad Guitar Polish). Every time I change the strings I do a quick 10-min polish and it has turned the back and sides a very shiny satin on the verge of gloss. It looks really good. The neck, on the other hand, is now a full-on gloss. The polishing shined the neck up great, but add to that the wear from playing and it's super slick now. I don't think that would happen to the back and sides with regular use--maybe only where your forearm rests.
I could watch that Wine Red Les Paul all day...
I have a 1977 Les Paul custom I stare at pretty much all day. Merlot not wine 😊
Same thing 😉
Simply the best and most versatile Les Paul that I've ever owned. I love it so much that I now own two. Gibson has a winner with this model.
doas any of your les pauls make hum noises?
gabriel guevara Only when the humbucker is switched to a single coil. The Trad Pro II has a true coil split thus the hum. It really depends on the amp. If it's a high gain amp then yes. I use an isp decimator II to quite things down. Works like a charm.
gabriel guevara there are reports that they make a lot of noise because of teh active circuit. Other tan that they are kick ass
I agree!
Yeah I have one too and they really are brimming with awesomeness!!
Evidently Andertons didn’t snap them ALL up as I got mine from GuitarGuitar in Birmingham. However, it was pre-owned so I guess it could’ve snuck it’s way to Birmingham 🤷🏼♂️

Rob was referring to no ability to control the boost from the knobs. You are right it can be adjusted internally
I love the sound of les paul guitars but the one rob was playing just had such a crispy tone im in love
Man oh man, ever since discovered these guys I just can't get enough of their videos. Rock on friends.
I just bought one in wine red. I stripped it and took all the bells and whistles off. Went back with 50's wiring and duncan slash pickups. This is now a really incredible axe!
i own the left one, and it is the best thing that ever happened to me
There's a trim pot in the control cavity to adjust the amount if boost. :D
the tone signature of this guitar is distinctly good for blues in my view. It is raw and untamed yet very clear. I played one yesterday. It is an excellent guitar and I am seriously considering buying a used one I can get that's in excellent condition.
I like the old format with no special camera angles. It makes it more authentic
Hey, that 10 db boost, you *CAN* adjust it. Take a screwdriver and pop off the back plate with the battery cover. There's a pot in there that you can dial back. They actually come stock at about 7db, you can turn it up or down.

i get you
I love Trad Pros. Can't afford the Gibson version, but I have an Epiphone version and I love it. Will have a Gibson one day.
That first jam is rad...and the second, damn yall rip, and captain is killing it, you guys should work on a song together, and record it legitlly since you do have access to studio and stuff, because this is so A game shredding
I absolutely loved the wider/thicker fingerboards of this era. My absolute fave from Henry J.
Because of this video I bought this very guitar (in fact it is the one chappers is playing with a 50s neck profile). I was searching for the fitting les paul for months and because of you I did find it. I am absolutely satisfied with my paula.
I have the exact same guitar. 2013 Les Paul Trad PRO 2 in Cherry Sunburst
Anthony Norton
It´s a great guitar, isn´t it? And i personally prefer the non lackered back.
Peter Knack
Yeah. I don't like the feel of the gloss. I love the satin.
satisfied for that price you should be blown away I was with my 1981 Greco super real 1200 at £2500
Your reviews are by far the most entertaining and helpful reviews on UA-cam ! Thank you for that and keep on
This is one of the best videos of late. Good mix of comedy and guitar demo's.
I did end up getting one of these about 6 months ago. I got the Heritage Cherry Sunburst model. 50's neck profile. Love it. It's the one Chappers is holding in the beginning of the video.
Anthony Norton Chappers is playing an Iced Tea Burst.
You're may be correct.
Wow! My guitar is almost identical to the one Lee is holding at the beginning of this video, except mine has a flame pattern to the top. Mine's even a 2013 year model. Absolutely nailed the audio quality lads!
I bought one....and I LOVE IT..THE ROCK GOD'S HAVE BLESSED ME.😎
God that blues jam around 5 minutes in was ridiculous... These guitars seem perfect for my style. Love em.
Lees tone is always so perfect.
I just bought one of these. I am in love
What an awesome demo! Started my day with a smile from ear to ear!
Anyway I put some nanoweb elixirs on it and haven’t put it down in 10 years lol 🎸
Love the neck and the power it throws.
Great guitar. Thanks for the confirmation guys ❤️
love how their tones are among the best tones of the LP players like to go with
WOWWWW, right off the bat - that red Paul is STUNNING
I played one of these at my local big box guitar shop here in the US and I must say, this is one outstanding Lester. It will be my next Les Paul. It just has so many tone variations that it's a must have addition to my 2009 LP Traditional and my 2012 LP Jr. Special with dual Humbuckers. The 10db boost was most noticeable when engaged on the clean channel of a Fender Blues Deluxe. It took it from the amazing Fender clean tone to a nice buttery distortion with the perfect amount of gain.
the finish on that cherry one is just gorgeous!
I love watching these reviews...... Evens if it's about a product i'm not interested in, just watching these guys is always entertaining :)
There is a trim pot in the battery compartment to adjust the boost.
I swear the video/audio/production quality of these vids is getting better all the time? Meant as a compliment, not that the older ones were bad!
I own a 2015 Les Paul Traditional Pro III and it’s an awesome guitar. I did replace the wiring harness with a traditional 50s wiring harness.
I went out bought one in part because of this video...Good job guys!!
IMHO the best deal that Gibson has put out in a long time.
Ricky Bobby I agree! That's why I bought a 2014 with a 50's neck in Heritage Cherry Burst.
nitegoat1369 I just bought(yesterday) the Floyd version in merlot. 60's neck. Love it!
Anti Law Nice. Congartulations.
James Morris - Great score!
Normally I'm not a fan of the wine reds, but Jesus Christ that is a deep dark blood red. So freakin' beautiful!
That red guitar is unbelievably beautiful
MyGenSucks i have 2011 wine red traditional. Antique binding totally beautiful. Too nice to play. Solid body a bit on the heavy side.
@@jimbo9357 that's a dream guitar man, enjoy it despite how too nice it is to play haha
I like mine alot
Robs tone in this is so good!
love you dudes. good reviews, good laughs, good way to kill time at work. Thanks for the videos from the Arizona
Thank you for this review. I just got a used one of these from my local music store and I wasn't sure what it was exactly. Mine is the Inverness green one.
I agree with Rob I always take the scratch plate of my les pauls don't care about the wood worm holes you only see them real close up
FUCK the captain is getting REALLY good at playing
They both are. Rob was always good but im liking the new things creeping into his style.
Holy shit rob, your playing was REALLY on form in the video. Nice work man.
Bought the Pro III in the burst finish and it’s the guitar I play the most even after I got in February 2017.
Got to play one of these last night. Really good. Single coil sound is really pretty.
Love those two, i watch all their videos, good solid reviews, good fun, keep it going guys.
ReallyReally good video !! ...its nice that you took the time to explain your real honest opinions... thank again guys
I just bought one of these yesterday at GC(Minneapolis, Mn) With the Floyd Rose. There is a boost adjustment pot inside the back control cavity. So you can adjust from 0-10 db of boost.
I've just laid down a deposit on one of these guitars, honeyburst with 50s neck. Can't wait to get my hands on it!
I like the idea of the boost knob.. I use an MXR micro amp myself which does the same thing but nice to have it built into the guitar.. The drummer in my band is loud so I have to boost a lot for solos.. Great demo guys..;-)
The boost is set to 10db as standard but it's adjustable if you tweak the little screw inside the potentiometers cavity.
The red one is absolutely stunning!
The man dressed like a teenager on the right plays faster, but the one on the left plays better and has way more feeling. Good video, I'm wishing to buy one of these.
Great vid as always, I've become a big fan of Captain and Chappers! btw. that red Les Paul Lee was playing is absolutely beautiful
Those “57” pups sound outstanding!
Cheers for all the positive comments guys - makes me happy to know you're happy!
The TONE!! Soooo Good!
Lee is right on when he talks about a Gibson Les Paul into a Marshall tube amp. There is some kind of magic that happens. Those two Les Paul's are just smokin' hot. I am torn on which one I like best.
I just love the way Rob said ''yes'' to Captain at 05:00 as if he was hinting to Captain that the ''tapping'' was getting too excessive. Haha
Awesome vid as always guys. Haha I love how rob always throws his pick at the camera

Great guitar all around. I'd never spend what they want on the top models, but also don't feel like I got any less guitar.
Just ordered the Epiphone version of this from andertons, but if I'd have been playing in 2013 I'd has been crushing so hard for one of those.
Great vids fellas - I bought a Honey Burst Pro 2 from Andertons and love it - single coil on neck pup with a bit of boost is awesome for a more over driven Strat sound. Quite a weighty piece and I like the fat 50's neck.

I believe there's a trim pot inside the control cavity where you can adjust the amount of db boost. Not something you could do on the fly obviously but you could adjust it to your taste and leave it.
Nice video Capt & Rob. Now lets see that Blues breaker/59 Bassman shootout.
Really kept a good groove this review, Chappers.
Loved it.
Lee always has the best tones
If your looking to buy. Mine seems little tinny on the top end, same as some the leads do on here but could be my crappy amp.All the combinations you can make are dope.Stays in tune for weeks. Extremely well made instrument.Well worth two thousand dollars new. Would buy again. The Alpine White looks very expensive and the sound is too. Thanks for the post
Indeed. Mine is a little trebebly - I just dial it down though and leave it like that. It's perfect.
hey are so easy to play. Clarity is spot on....
So glad to know there's a 60's neck available on them.
There is a dial in the hardware to trim down the 10 db boost to whatever your preference is.
i always try to to stick to local shops rather than big retailers.
I might be picking one of those up this weekend.
Wow! Six years ago. Those prices are/were fabulous.
Look at that Holiness burst!
Actually, with the 10dB boost pot, if you open the control cavity, you can adjust how much of that 10dB you're actually using. Gibson sends them out set to about 60%. Dialing it all the way up to 10 does induce a little bit of buzzing into your signal chain. I have mine set to about 75-80%.
as i commented above mine would hum always when boost was on
Great video guys! These are beautiful. Love the Red One.
I have the Alpine White and it plays so smooth !
Cap'n sounding great in this vid. Thanks fellas.
beautiful guitars great review . thanks for posting
Iove how half the video is just them jammin' and having fun
You CAN adjust the 10db boost by the way, there is a trim pot inside. You really should know these things if you're demoing a guitar fellas.
Yeah that was finally a really great and enjoyable video :) Don't get me wrong, the others from the new room were ok too but in this one the sound, the cuts and the jokes were just purrrfect.
Keep on making 'em !
