We had someone from our church who was part of the New Brunswick symphony and was indeed a master violinist play the part of the old man and he really did play a wonderful peace. It was amazing. Best version of this song ever.

I love this song!!! It really shows what can happen what a Master's hand can do!!!! God can use you if you ask to be used!!!! I am 63 now and have been home bound for over 5 years due to disability--hard for a RN!!! 38 years of chronic illness has taken a huge toll!!! I ask God to make me usable!!!! Update--the Master has me on Hospice--surgery is impossible due to vascular reasons. I feel Holy presence around me all the time--this happen only a week ago. I have a great team of caregivers!! Yes, the Master's hands anything is possible!!!! Pray that I can witness to the caregivers!!!

I don’t recall ever hearing this song before but God brought the words, “One touch of the Master’s hand,” to my mind so I googled it and came across this.. how beautiful is this.

@@jasonirelan4487 "The Touch of the Master's Hand", also sometimes called The Old Violin, is a Christian poem written in 1921 by Myra Brooks Welch. This song is an adaptation of the poem and it was written by John Kramp in 1974.

@@captainhowdy7274 I wish I knew what the other items were that got auctioned off. My sister’s a violinist, but she doesn’t do it for money, and it’s hard to say if she could get any gigs. I’d like to learn to play a stringed instrument, but a violin wouldn’t be my first choice. I’d wanna learn to play a guitar, banjo, ukulele, or a cello

Fabulous harmonising and fabulously well sung. Love the Booth Brothers. Last time I heard this song was by Wayne Watson in the 90s. I even bought the music album. The words are so touching and so true. The worst a sinner you feel and think you are , the more you humble yourself and come to him, the easier it is indeed for the Master to use you as His instrument to play the most fabulous tune to a world that really desperately needs it.

I had a different arrangement on a cassette that was made by some college/seminary in Pennsylvania. The cassette had a Copyright date of 1985. That cassette was lost in a house fire in 2005. I miss that cassette terribly. I preferred the straight piano and voice arrangement on that tape to anything I've heard since.

Touch of the Master's Hand LYRICS
Well it was battered and scarred
And the auctioneer felt it was hardly worth his while
To waste much time on the old violin but he held it up with a smile
He said it sure ain’t much but its all we’ve got left, I guess we ought to sell it too
Oh now, who’ll start the bid on this old violin? Just one more and we’ll be through
And then he cried, One give me one dollar: who’ll make it two? Only two dollars
    Who’ll make it three? Three dollars twice now that’s a good price;
    Who’s gonna bid for me?
Raise up your hand now don’t wait any longer, the auction’s about to end
Who’s got four, just one dollar more, to bid on this old violin?
Well the air was hot and the people stood around as the sun was setting low
From the back of the crowd a gray haired man came forward and picked up the bow
He wiped the dust from the old violin and he tightened up the strings
And then he played out a melody pure and sweet, sweeter than the Angels sing
And then the music stopped and the auctioneer with a voice that was quiet and low
He said now what am I bid for this old violin and he held it up with a bow.
Then he cried out One give me one thousand; who’ll make it two, only two thousand
Who’ll make it three? Three thousand twice you know that’s a good price
Come on who’s gonna bid for me?
And the people cried out, What made the change? We don’t understand.
Then the auctioneer stopped and said with a smile, It was the touch of the Master’s Hand.
You know there’s many a man with his life out of tune
    Battered and scarred with sin
And he’s auctioned cheap to a thankless world much like that old violin,
But then the Master comes and the old foolish crowd, they never understand
The worth of a soul and the change that is wrought,
Just by one touch of the Master’s Hand
Then he cried out, One give me one thousand; who’ll make it two? Only two thousand
Who’ll make it three? Three thousand twice, you know that’s a good price
Come on, who’s gonna bid for me?
And the people cried out, What made the change? We don’t understand.
Then the auctioneer stopped and said with a smile,
It was the touch. It was the touch of the Master’s Hand.

Ronda, my Baylor fraternity brother, John Kramp, wrote the song (based on the poem) when he was a freshman at Baylor (1974)...I'll never forget the night he played it for some of us (our first week back from Spring Break) in his dorm room.....he had heard the poem at a sermon and came home that night and modified the poem some and wrote the music....needless to say we guys gathered in his dorm room that night knew we had heard something very very special...Wayne Watson asked John if he could record it on his first Album in 1980...the rest is history.....John, as you would expect, has had a remarkable life as husband, father, minister and author.
