Thanks for the great footage! I’m grateful to all who take the time to document this and put it up for us all to see. I’m from the South Bay but am currently living in Pennsylvania. These conditions looked crazy difficult, but I’d have to say those guys put in a strong effort and I’m sure it was worth it.
Highly recommend you come down and surf this spot in Palos Verdes Estates area. Lunada Bay is a good place to learn to surf as well. Great for folks that live anywhere is Southern California.
Free street parking is available along the shoulder of Paseo Del Mar. The best routes down the bluff are across Paseo Del Mar from Oakley Road and Avenida Mirola
3:15 MAY HAVE LOST THEIR BOARD … actually he’s scooping for surface abalone that come up for air during big swell events. This phenomenon inspired the hit song “I Think We’re Abalone Now” by Tiffany (she used to date a Bay Boy)
Why does it seem like everytime someone wipes out bad the camera doesn't stay with it? I wanna see how long until the guy pops up after getting worked...
Damnnn the dude on the blue board had a rough session. Caught inside on every wave or pearled on the take off, kept bailing his board, then finally the leash broke & he had to swim in. He was out of his league....that's how people get hurt or drown...
There are two guys with blue boards. Was charging on the wipeout and mistimed it. Equipment failure does not make big waves "out of your league". Bailing your big board in big waves is standard. That's a long swim back, could you do it?
anyone who could get himself in on his own was not 'out of his league' you need to be a lifeguard level.. anyone else would have drowned in that current.

My greatest nightmare having leash snap in those conditions. that dude is in great shape because that’s not a fun swim.
