I love this song! However, its actually a cover of a cover of another cover. It was released by Badfinger in 1970 and was written by two of the band members, Pete Ham and Tom Evans. Harry Nilsson made it famous when he released it in 1971. Mariah Carey recorded her version in 1994. (Other artists have covered it over the years but Nilsson & Carey are the best known.) The songwriters both ended their lives (Ham 1975, Evans 1983) due to legal & financial issues brought on by unscrupulous management and royalty disagreements. Sad.
Makes me nuts when someone says something is a cover of someone else doing a cover. Harry Nilsson covered a Badfinger song, then Mariah covered that. Erik is part of a history stretching back to the 60s. His voice sounds somewhat like Harry Nilsson
