Cody's is a story about not knowing who your getting into business with before you start up a long term project. It's like signing up to build a bunch of skyscrapers and then you find out that your architect and engineer haven't made it through high school. I bet his vision of AEW was like an evolved form old school Ring of Honor before his disputes with Kenny and the Jackson brothers.

I honestly have never really understood this. Like, I get what you're saying but having more believable people should increase the variability in storylines, right? So instead of (looking at you, WWE) having 3 people in the Heavyweight title picture, having 10-12 viable people seems to make more sense to me. Same with all the other divisions. If you bring an influx of talent to supplement a division, then you can actually have lower level titles (like the Intercontinental in WWE, not sure what it's mirror in AEW is called) mean something.
Think about when Randy Savage won the Intercontinental tilte in the late 80s and had that fued with Ricky Steamboat: for a title we look at now as just "Oh yeah, that one" it actually has a pretty storied past.
I wonder if it has more to do with payroll than actually giving people a shot?

I've said this was going to happen from day one.. when aew was a small roster company, it looked far more appealing to wrestlers because they felt like they could be more free creatively, they would get more tv and exposure, more opportunities at championships (what happened to the rankings system) etc, but the more people they signed, the more people got pushed to the bottom.. that's the nature of the business.. it's the and way in wwe.. the roster is so big.. everybody can't be a main eventer... everybody can't win championships and gets loads of TV time.. everybody can't get to pitch their own creative ideas.. everybody can't be at the top.. somebody has to be in the middle and at the bottom.. so inherently people are going to have issues with their position, no matter what company they go to

I honestly believe Cody did all that on purpose. His dad and brother were WWF staples for a time. Vince was runnin wild as the only game in town. So Cody took off, brought some folks, helped create and launch AEW, and boom. Now he has made options. SOLID options. So now he can barter a little bit when it comes to what he wants. He has something to hold over them, which he didnt have before. I think it was brilliant. And, as a hardcore wrestling fan, I could not be more appreciative for them for creating this so we have A) 2 viable brands to watch on the regular, B) opening the doors for cross promotions and C) allowing us to watch all kinds of Indy guys a lot of folks wouldnt know where to find them at. Theres a TON of talent out there. And now, they created a situation where they dont have to bow down to WWE and their creative, they can open it up for more of a collaboration. Makes things more exciting in general.

There are two problems with the company. 1. Nepotism: The EVP's and their close friends outside that clique are constantly holding other talent down whenever they can get a breakout.
    2. The company have an overloaded roster causing a side effect of a number of underutilized talent. At first I saw it as not a big deal thinking that talent go over to AEW for a lighter schedule, but they are going on twitter and live TV complaining about not getting enough TV time. It's either look at Impact Wrestling or MLW and see that they don't have a huge roster. Once in a while they bring in a wrestler from another promotion to compete for one night. Or have a brand split between Dynamite and ROH, then treat Dark and Dark Elevation as developmental.

Did the original comment even mention WWE in any capacity? Or does that big, white W just stay at the forefront of your mind at all times? Stop acting like a hysterical fangirl, re-read what the OP wrote, and try countering anything they said with some sort of logic instead of a strawman.
I can guarantee you can't because the OP is 100% correct on both accounts.
      1. The Elite (mostly likely The Young Bucks) have turned what was supposed to be a serious, international, franchise, mega-promotion into an indie frat-house. Their talentless, no-name, hack California buddies are clogging up the roster and sucking up resources the exact same way Hogan, Biscoff, and their stooges did WCW first and then TNA.
      2. Tony treats professional wrestlers like toy action figures to collect. You can't just tie-up a working wrestler to a 1-3 year contract and use them 1/5 of the time. Professional wrestlers careers live and die by exposure. They need to be seen. It's cool he lets them work select indie companies but they signed with a major company to be on television and grow their brand within that company. He has 3 shows now - Dynamite, Rampage, and ROH. There is no excuse talent can't be spread out more and utilized better. An AEW "brand split" can be unspoken. There don't have to be set Dynamite, Rampage rosters, just quietly pull all your ROH talent exclusively to ROH taping and select 30-35 guys/gals to feature exclusively on Rampage with the very seldom Dynamite appearance.

The roster is too bloated. The talent is poorly used and no one has any concept of wrestling psychology. With a roster that big they need some separation between shows plus ROH should be a separate entity it's self. It should be where old wrestlers go to die and young wrestlers start out. And they should all be free to work for other promotions. Let Impact build their talent pool too. Use injury angles to put wrestlers on the shelf for a bit.

Firstly sorry for the really long reply. On the bright side if you can't sleep re-read this :)
I understand your sentiment but in a business like this, which is very fluid, if your going to grow and the initial elements of your business cannot or do not fit that growth then well, you grow without them. Cody I think was just using AEW as a jumping off point, he knew he needed to go somewhere else to shine which he did. Soon as the crowd starting turning on him and CM Punk was outshining him he knew it was time to go back. He had proved to WWE he is a star they just needed to see it.
Imagine you started a business with the 4 best employee's you can afford at the time and the best laptop you could afford at the time working at home, 2 years later and you now have 6 offices in different locations with 100+ employee's, would you still be using that same laptop and working at home or have a dedicated network of computers and have your own office in each office? The original employee's might still be on the books, or might have moved on, but that laptop deffo ain't being used anymore, more laptops that are more powerful are and you ain't working from home anymore. In business you can't hold onto the original foundations out of some misplaced sense of loyalty, when you need to build something bigger, the originals are not always upto the task, sometimes they are. Jim Cornette made a good point (and CM Punk also confirmed it in that press scrum) that Cody got out when he could as he could see what was happening as omega and the bucks were just using aew as there friends only club to share some belts and trampoline wrestling and anyone not on the friends list can eff off. They were basically look t us we made it big now were the thing. People came in from other promotions admittedly mainly WWE and were like okay this is what you need to do to get better and make our shows even better and so then we all earn more money and they were like nah were already the best look at us were VP's and top of our game. Others were like you are but your game is not the only game let me show you other games and they were like nah our game is the best thats why were VP of the best company out here. Those same others were like erm actually were not and until we start doing this we will always be second best so you need to listen to our experience. Well they didn't. Then punk dropped his press scrum and it all went sideways.
here is where the conspiracy/work starts.
Cody left with seeming little attempt to retain him - AEW 2nd biggest draw and they could not reach on agreement, either cody wanted out or TK wanted him out and TK has nearly as much money as vince and access to more than vince has lost. Almost like TK was happy, or maybe OK to let him go. Now omega and bucks are on suspension. Punk when he dropped it at the scrum was looking at a 9 months injury time and now allegedly has a backstage job. What that job is nobody knows for sure but if the rumours are true punk still has a job omega and bucks dont. Would not surprise me if TK told punk to rant (considering TK reactions to some of what punk said he is either extremely well composed or had an idea what was coming, if one of my employee's said things like that live on camera I don't think I could have held myself back from not stepping in - the downside is the return of MJF was overshadowed by it), anyway knowing omega and bucks would kick off thus getting disciplined maybe fired so he, TK, could move away from the original pillars and start with nice new fresh foundations for a huge bigger building, with foundations like bryanson, mox, jericho and the jas, cash and wheeler, darby and sting, jungle boy, luchasaurus, cage, mjf, wardlow, sammy, baker, hayter, storm, cargill, rosa (who I think wanted to duck out to concentrate on her own promotion and the injury gave her the perfect chance). AEW is a very different animal to what it was on Day 1. Just like WWF is now WWE and is also a very different animal to what it was, AEW is just evolving quicker but it has seen the evolution path and WCW showed how not to do it.

I agree, but a lot of the problems (if not all of them) fall on Tony Khan's booking. I like AEW and want them to succeed, but have to agree with the WWE Fanboys' analogy of Khan's booking being him "playing with his action figures". He's done great on bringing in people that fans want to see, but he can't jump on momentum to save his life.
People complain about Vince not pushing people when they were over with the fans because Vince wasn't the one who got them over. Tony is almost getting to that point. FTR, Wardlow, and (to an extent) Ricky Starks got themselves over and getting loud pops, but once their story was over they just disappeared.
TK brings in some great women's wrestlers, but then refuse to take the belts off Baker and Jade even when the fans are bored of them. Jade I can at least understand to a point, I'm still think he really wants Statlander to get the win (which I agree with), but when constant injuries occurs you have roll with the punches and make changes. He finally takes the belt off Baker, but she was still getting TV time every show and Rosa was nowhere to be seen.
Same with the wrestling style. I enjoy the high flying, fast paced, style; but when ALL of your top stars CONSTANTLY get injured, things need to change.
Tony has many intelligent veterans in the company, he really needs to start getting their input more and/or just start putting more of them in charge of things. Which he has done that some after the Punk/Elite BS, but it's something that should have happened probably a couple years ago.

sometimes mid carders are just mid carders regardless of what they or the fans think. Very few can be at the top of the card. Gotta disagree w/the last one, he raised his profile enough that when he went back home he got a legit push; injuries are what hampered that.

I just don't understand why wrestling companies bring in Dan Lambert. I don't get the draw.

Ruby and Athena not getting any time outside the UA-cam shows is ridiculous with how crap the women’s division is. Brian Cage got torn up by cornette after his match with wardlow yikes.

Goes to show, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. AEW can only have but so many top stars, even going back to WWE wont be any help when their current stars are now being elevated under Hunter’s leadership

At first I was sad that Malakai Black was leaving, but Julia Hart is doing a decent job leading the House of Black. Still, I feel they need a third male member. Why not Evil Uno? He could be called "The Evil One."
