Totally adored this production - was a little apprehensive seeing the rehearsals but was won over immediately - and the singers! The music! Divine experience. Brilliant ❤Thank you.
excellent production! really leaned into the humor. Found laughs in almost every moment, including roping in the audience (or jumping into the audience!), roping in the orchestra, and having all those performance artists on stage -- not just foley and the chalk art, but also all those folks with the paper birds. Wonderful! And that QUEEN OF THE NIGHT! What a performance! Singing while mimicking a bad limp and rolling herself around in a wheelchair. Astounding! Also. Shout out to the man who played Monostatos. So slimy and slick. And so wonderfully performed!
Loved the Live in HD experience on 6/3, and I'm so excited this feature is already available on UA-cam. I'm looking forward to revisiting the production when it hits the Met's streaming service.
Just saw it tonight. Wonderful singing. Wonderful playing. Stupid production. The projections of writing in chalk: stupid. Papageno peeing in a bottle: tasteless. The Queen of the Night in a wheel chair? Bleh. The Queen joining Sarastro and his gang in celebration at the end of the opera? Huh? And I wanted to grab the step ladder that Papageno carries for the entire opera and smash it to bits. Bring back the Julie Taymor version.
I agree with most of what you say, but I have my problems with the Taymor version and this one was almost a relief after so many years of that. I say bring back the Rennert/Chagall version that the Met had from the late '60's-early '80's. Never saw it but from everything I've read and the pictures I've seen, it must have been the ultimate.
One of the most delightful operas I have ever seen, superbly sung. Loved seeing Ruth Sullivan creating the sound effects from one side of the stage.

I ****LOVE**** the sfx in this production!
Having seen the Chagall, Montresor, Hockney, and Taymor FLUTEs, I expected to hate this one...ended up loving it!

Great singing. Horrible production.
@@bm9002 Ich freue mich sehr auf dich. Mozart hasst diese Version seines Meisterwerks.
