- Aired (December 18, 2003): This is the legacy story of the prominent Filipino television personality, Bert Marcelo (Jose Manalo), whose trademark high-pitched infectious laughter earned him the popular moniker "Tawa," after the Tagalog word for a laugh. Marcelo, who was born in Baliuag, Bulacan, was a legendary San Miguel Beer endorser. He was best known as the co-host with Pilita Corrales of Ang Bagong Kampeon, a long-running television talent show that discovered Regine Velasquez and other talents. In the 1970s, he also appeared in films and television shows such as Baltic and Company and Us Girls.
Marcelo was at the peak of his career when he died of a stroke shortly after losing the Bulacan governor race in 1995.

Naalala ko si Bert Marcelo nung Grade 3 ako sa novaliches nadadadaanan ko araw araw yung bahay nila, malapit lang kasi sa school namin. Ang laki ng bahay nila dun.. maybe 1975 ata yun.. kasikatan pa din nya that time.

Many years ago I saw Bert Marcelo in a supermarket in Canada & he found out I was from the Philippines. He was super down to earth guy and he made me laugh with his classic " Mag Beer Muna Tayo"

Mang Bert Marcelo lost the Bulacan Gobernatorial race to then Incumbent Governor Roberto Pagdanganan. The stress of the election campaign, his work as a showbiz personality, and his defeat in the election contributed to his bad health and eventually his death. Mang Bert and FPJ are similar. They lost in the election and couple of months later died of natural cause. Maybe they had a hardtime accepting the results of the election.
