I enjoyed 過橋麵 for the first time in Kunming in 1987. It should not be missed. Even back then Kunming still retained baguette and coffee culture. As an American lucky enough to be married to a beautiful Japanese lady I have no problem eating the normal Japanese portion of rice or noodles.

It's an immigrant city from people all around China, you can find almost everything there. Only for food. I have also visited your home country SA, I loved it!

Yes, went to a restaurant for Quojiao Mixian and you have to walk acoss a small bridge to the dining area. The serving is huge and is usually more than sufficient for two persons (foreigners who are not used to the generous servings of food in china). It was an interesting experience.

As a beginner, it's essential for you to have a mentor to keep you accountable. Myself, I'm guided by Angela Phyllis Martin, for a couple of years now and i highly recommend her. To be honest, I almost gave up the idea of letting someone handle my finances, but so glad I did because it paid off.
No offence, but you should definitely stay away from showing or mentioning food. Chinese cuisine aren't that much spicier than say Thailand or Malaysia, and from my experience most places offer you choices on how spicy you would like your food to be. If you find yourself "sitting on the toilet all the time" as you put it, perhaps you should check if you have IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome.)
