    Retiring early sounds like a good dream but trust me its hard to walk away from a busy practice. Its over forty years since I started Dental school and I am in my early sixties. Some things you may not be considering....Being a dentist affords one a modicum of prestige and a purpose in life. You also get real good at it after doing it for so many years. Also you have developed long term relationships with many patients who have come to depend on you and really fear your leaving. Sooner or later you have to go but forty is real early to walk away.

      Wow! Thank you for this comment. I’m 43 dentist USC grad 06, Los Angeles. This struck home. I know I’m behind being in LA, compared to other much more lucrative states such as TX , TN, FL, NV, GA, AZ etc. I like the dentistry part but not the politics or what comes after. It is physically hard on our bodies (necks, back, eyes, head, brain) and mentally stressful too. We have to hear all the patients problems all the time. But I see it as if God has called me to do this line of work and so I am doing God’s bidding and will for my life. Not only to help myself but more importantly to help those in need because he has placed these patients in my hands for a purpose.

    What’s the point of going into healthcare by paying $300k+ for school, spending 8+ years of education, expelling so much stress and anxiety just to retire at 40? Don’t get me wrong, retiring early is awesome but what’s the point of putting in all that effort to being a dentist just to only spend 8 years in the career by retiring early?

    Hey Joel! Really like your videos. They speak of the maturity you have come to attain and really fills a gap in the real world outside the dental school. You just nailed it with the fable of the fisherman. I am also baffled by how you manage to take time out to read and respond to all the comments. Thank you so much. In my situation, I could benefit immensely from your guidance. Would there be a way I could seek mentorship from you and discuss further? Thanks again

    Is your friend who owns 19 practices completely retired from clinical dentistry? Surely he is able to live off the cash flow of the absentee owned practices alone?
    Unless there is a massive market correction in regards to dental reimbursements then his goal should be to focus on delegating his practice management tasks so he can reduce his workload and hence in a way retire immediately.

    • @jmey

    With regards to the easy approach. Even if i work far away and make max 300k. I don't understand how I will make a 5 million investable networth after tax and expenses. If not incorporated the max you can save is like a 100k/yr. And if incorporated then you are talking about working far to save money to invest it in real-estate until it reaches to 5Million investable networth?

    • @jmey
      @jmey  3 роки тому

      the "easy" approach was to try and save $1m, not $5m
