I have a sketch book, and it's nice to see other people's sketch books to get ideas and inspiration. Your book is varied, throughout its pages, which has given me some thought for mine. Thankyou
I like how you use it for visual notes or as a diary because seeing other people's sketchbook has made me very picky abut what i put in mine, almost as if everything in the sketchbook had to be very polished and it looses it's purpose. Great video! 🌸
Thank you! That’s precisely it, it looses its experimental purpose if it’s all perfect. Sometimes I scribble on pages just to make sure it doesn’t become too neat!
I have one of those journals. I haven’t quite known what to do with the size. Even though I love it. This is just the inspiration I need. I am a new subscriber and am excited to have found your channel. I love sketchbook tours, reviews of art books and materials, I especially love watercolor and gouache with texture from pencils and pastels etc. I love to see tutorials of those, and love to see collections. After years of pigeonholing each art journal to have a theme or type of art, I too have learned to do it loosely, as my mood denotes. I’ll go from drawing to painting with watercolors, to gouache, to colored pencils. I used to think I had to have a journal for each and practice and mark making should be done on separate paper. Not any more. It’s too much stuff all over the place . Look at this lovely collection you have. I am already a big fan, two videos in! :):)
I make sketchbooks with all different papers for pencil, pens, pastels, and watercolour. I really like this, and making them different sizes too! I use them to keep notes about bigger artwork and the paints that I have used, as well as quick sketches and then more finished pieces. You can try painting a cheap paper like the Art Creations sketchbook with watercolour ground and then after it dries....paint away. I have just done that in mine.
Recently I also did a sketchbook tour on my channel and I talk about this exact thing - that you can use your sketchbook for everything. It was so nice to see someone else writing stuff in your sketchbook and just doing rough stuff! Would love to see more tours!
Thank you! I've never found the dear diary style worked for me but small notes and snippets of life are so manageable and natural to add to sketches :)
love your sketchbook. i also use a sketchbook, sometimes as a journal, sometimes as an art book, painting in watercolor or gouache. its very relaxing and im not worried with making every painting perfect. thankyou for sharing.
Thank you for this comment Jack, I always like to hear about other artists' sketching habits. i completely agree that it's more relaxing when perfection is off the board.
Love your style. I have a lined diary where I make lists and plan my gardens and meals but I contain my finished work in my Global Travelogue sketchbooks.
I have just come across your channel and enjoyed your sketchbook tour and hope to see more of them 😁. I have been keeping a sketchbook for about 3.5 years now. I use it as more of a visual diary where I added text about what happened that day. I try and do a page a day and have found that by sticking a sticky note on each page I can jot down things that have happened to write up later when the sketch is finished, or at a later date if I get behind..also as a way to improve my handwriting! I also tape in my calendar and to do list at the back so it's all in one book 🙂. My sketches tend to vary from real life sketches of something/some event in my day, from my photos if I don't have time to sketch in situ, from inspiring photos or from inspiring pictures or tutorials online, or just experiments, nothing is taboo. I also try new styles and materials to mix it up. I love to go back through my journals, I am currently on #24, and see my progress and read what happened that day. I use various journals and sketchbooks but have just recently returned to the moleskine watercolour books, which last me for two months each one. ❤️
Shirley thank you so much for giving me a glimpse into your sketching habits. I love the idea of having a calendar in the back of your journal, even something small that records the months that it spans. You must have growing shelves too! I wish mine were regimented enough to line up nicely but I'm always tempted by unusual shapes and sizes. :)
Hi Anita, I'm so pleased to hear that you find the videos calming, I will definitely consider doing one about portraiture but in the meantime you can have a look at my blog on drawing the basics of the face using anatomy here: www.valerian.co.uk/blog/index.php?id=3 :)
Yes it is a postcard, I have found that superglue is the best way to attach them and other things to the front. Sometimes I also use stamps or labels from bottles!
this sketchbook is so inconsistant, sometimes you get a good one with minimal bleed and able to do double page watercolour and then youll get one which will bleed even the lighest colour its weird the smaller one dont bleed as much but the a4 one is a joke compared to paper thickness of the small a6 one
Excellent! Thanks for sharing.❤

Thank you I'll give that a go! I'm doing lots of experiments with materials at the moment so it's perfect timing.
I love that you keep everything in one notebook…so smart

What pen do u use? Really nice work!
How do you attach the "postcard" (I think that's what it is) to the front of your sketchbook?
Yes it is a postcard, I have found that superglue is the best way to attach them and other things to the front. Sometimes I also use stamps or labels from bottles!
