    I got a set of Oberon 3's about a week before you posted this review, got a new NAD C 316BEE amp at the same time. I spent half a day in the hifi shop, trying different speakers with different amps, talking to other customers and listening in on their testing.
    Spending the time to find the right speaker/amp combo, for me, was absolutely worth it, have enjoyed every second with this setup ever since. The NAD just did something to the low and mid ranges, which also seemed to counter some of the ear piercing high ranges, it rounded off the sound in a way that suits my ears.
    Records I have listened to a thousand times before, they give me goosebumps again. Even at low volume, the Oberons sound great, where my old setup struggled getting everything out, this just sounds clear and effortless. Overall I have turned my volume down significantly, so, hooray for my ears!
    For $300, these speakers are a bargain, but always go at listen for yourself if possible.

      Ear piercing highs have got me second guessing on the Oberon 5's. Maybe not a good choice for me especially since I have the original NAD 316 bee.

    At 44 I finally treated myself. I just bought a pair of these with stands to go with a Cambridge Audio Axr100 as the setup for my pool room. Tunnel of Love by Dire Straits is ready to go as soon as they're delivered. Then I'm thinking California Girls by the Beach Boys followed by Peace Frog by the Doors. I'm honestly like a kid at Christmas. Keep up the good work.

      Well you picked a near perfect setup and like music that plays to the Cambridge and Dali Combo.
      I love Knopfler and seriously think Dali's voicing plays well to his music. I'm running the one step lower Oberon 1 and Cambridge AXA 35 set-up in my kitchen.

    The price difference is opposite in Denmark, where 2 pieces RP600M is listed at 5600 DKK and 2 pieces of Oberon 3 only costs 4000 DKK. It makes the Klipsch 40 % more expensive. In US it seems to be the other way round.

    I think the bonus section was invaluable, it settled a lot of things for me. I have an affinity for DALI speakers. They are so easy, versatile, and have a sound signature that just agrees with my ears. I currently have DALI Ikon 7's and 2's in my living room theater, which I've owned for 10 years. I love them but seriously considering moving to the Oberon series. The Ikons are big and tall and take over my whole living room while the Oberons are smaller scale but still give you great sound. BTW, first time watching your review. Great job and great info. The Oberon 3 will be very happy with the Audiolab 6000a integrated amp. An equally spacious and clean sounding amplifier. It won't be pushing the Dalis to go beyond their remit, i.e. not forcing dynamics or pushing the low end. The combination will be an easy and engrossing listening experience, rather than punchy and excited.

      @@nikhilsrl I own Audiolab 6000a with Elac DRB62 and I am happy with the combination. Very blanced sound. I have heard Dali Oberon 3 with a different amp. DBR sound to have a deeper bass, sparkling treble without harshness, and natural vocal. Dali sound to have higher treble which give the feeling of more detail and excitement but less bass. A subwoofer will be needed with OB3 because Audiolab 6000a does not have tone control.

    So glad to have found your review. Classical is very much my thing (about 80-90% of my listening) and so it was really great to hear your perspective on these speakers with regard to classical -- music to my ears (already)! I just ordered a pair each of Dali Spektors 1 & 2 and have come to realise that as my present 5.1 inch speakers were never really powerful enough, the Spektor 2's (exactly the same size) are probably not likely to be either! Hence my new quest for 7 inch woofer speakers.
    I've also ordered a Cambridge Audio AXR100D, which I'm hoping will be compatible (?). Obviously your review is now 4 years ago -- are these still the go-to speakers for classical at this price point? 🤔 Anyway thanks for a great review. Subbed!

I'm going to buy the Marantz and it'll be interesting what it will sound like with my Elac debut b5 (mk i) which have served me brilliantly and to my ears sound better than so many speakers around the £300 mark. I agree with Caio. The B&W 606s are really good speakers, fantastic for the price, they do nothing wrong to my ear. That being said, I find them very boring. They're very neutral(which gives you a good template for EQ if you like to mess with that), give good imaging and soundstage, but there's nothing "special" about them. They don't grab me, they're just there. I like a big 3D soundstage and bit of colour in the speaker, but if you want a very neutral speaker or to tailor the sound at the source B&Ws are great.

      But on the flip side, and even keeping in mind all the show shortcomings, if something sounds gutless, with a distinct Class-D sound signature, while the company reps proclaim better power & performance than other topologies, and it demonstrably fails to stand out amongst it's peers in a day of (rushed but diligent) listening sessions, then me thinks the criticism is warranted, just as praise is due when something DOES manage to stand out at the same show (like the little Maggies or the Buchardt S400's & the Odyssey Lorelei's did for me when it came to speakers in that price range).

      I appreciate the suggestion. There are loose plans to bring in a pair of PSBs sometime in the near future. I think they want coverage on the new Alpha bookies though. I suppose we'll see what ultimately lands at Casa Del Zero. Meanwhile - enjoy those T20's!

    Recently discovered your channel and I am glad I did. Great style and some really great finds! Doing reviews on high fidelity is difficult enough on this medium but reviews you can believe in greatly assist in choosing equipment. I am planning a new "BUDGET" (3-4 K USD?) system in a few months when I relocate to Bangkok, Thailand. From what I gathered and seen from my research there isn't an abundance of (2 channel) audio stores in Bangkok. I will likely do a trip to Singapore for my audio shopping. Anyone with recommendations for shops in Bangkok are appreciated!

    I have the original PSB Alpha's and the matching center channel. for my home theater. They sound great but I have the itch to buy a new set. At the time they sounded the best to me, even compared with the Paradigm and B&W comparable products as I was able to listen to all three in an audio store in NYC. Now I was looking to maybe upgrade and wonder what I should get? You can't go to an audio store and hear all of these in comparison anymore, so it is very difficult to know which sounds best. I need a pair of bookshelf speakers and a center channel as I have in-wall mounted Sonnace speakers for surround and a definitive sub-woofer (my PSB 5i had to be repolaced!). Any thoughts? Do I just go with the PSB P5s? I don't want to spend more than $1000 on the three speakers.

      It's slightly beyond average in that regard. You do get a soundstage that is relatively layered, which becomes most noticeable with jazz and classical. Still, if you're a hound for image depth, then you may have to spend a bit more cash.

    I really liked the comparison part. The klipsch is a fantastic “standard” since it’s such a common speaker. Even if you don’t like klipsch, odds are that you’ve at least heard them. Personally, I love the klipsch sound. My RP-500m with a small sub is nothing short of amazing.
    But that’s where my question begins. I’m still trying to wrap my brain around all this, so I apologize if this is a stupid question. I think I heard on one review that receivers (like my home theater Yamaha Aventage) use a Low Pass Filter to redirect the low frequencies to a subwoofer when one is present? Does that mean the bass concerns you had with these DALI speakers might not be present if you were planning to use them with a sub? Am I understanding that right?

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  5 років тому +1

      If you set the crossover point to 80Hz (or somewhere in this area), then yes, the bass concerns that I reported can be mitigated. Note however, as said in the video, that it hinges largely on the gear that you pair the speakers up to.

And its really good to do comparison to other product, not in defining which is better but rather letting viewer know what it really does. BTW, will it work as a surround speaker that pair with Klipsch RP front speaker? thinking of using it as such because of the wide stage that might make surround sound more surround..what do u think of it? Does it play as loud as klipsch without going to distortion?

      That's a good question. So here's the thing: I cannot speak on Dali's behalf, but when I look at Dali drivers, I notice slivers of wooden strands throughout the cone. My guess is that the wood in the cone material isn't as 'broken down' as what you'll find in typical paper products. Then again. I could be full of sh*t.

    • @ZeroFidelity
      @ZeroFidelity  5 років тому +1

      Yeah. Polk Audio is practically pimp slapping the LSi out the door. While some people may *still* prefer the speakers mentioned in this video over the 703's for personal reasons, I think $600 for a set of 703's, new, with warranty, is a stupidly good deal.
