probably my favorite beethoven symphony. There are no weak movements in this one-each one contains uniquely joyful melodies, and it's perfect, not just for happy moments, but making moments happy!
Some sophisticates find the storm embarrassingly literal, but this is after all meant to be a programmatic work. There really are no weak movements in any of the symphonies, altho there will always be that perennial debate about the finale of the 9th. But even the first is a perfect little Haydenesque gem al;ready exhibiting the Beethovenian personality.
Though I have always loved Beethoven’s 6th based on the sheer musical beauty of the symphony alone, this video has once again helped me learn so much more about this wonderful symphony! It just goes to show me I have much to learn about classical music, even though I have a deep love of it! Thank you again for all of the hard work put into your videos, I am really enjoying and learning from them!

It may be cliched, but this is my absolute favourite piece of music to listen to when going for a walk in the country. Also, the ending to the third movement to me has always sounded like the dancers running for shelter at the first sound of thunder.
I like to listen to the 6th Symphony before I fall asleep at night. it's such a beautiful dreamlike quality to the symphony and it's just so relaxing!!!

What moves me most about this piece is that it’s so cinematic. It tells a story through music, sort of like watching a movie without any words or images - just the soundtrack. It’s proof that Beethoven would’ve been one hell of a film composer.
You can clearly see the connective tissue that joins together the 5th Symphony, 6th Symphony & 4th Piano Concerto. That 4 note.motif features strongly in all 3 pieces.

The funny thing is that the 6th premiered before the intermission, and then the 5th premiered lol. The opus numbers are still in order for 5 and 6 but technically the 6th is the first symphony to feature a trombone part and not the 5th.
It may be programatic but there's no vocals or even words. One of Beethoven's best works and likely favourite symphony written by him. But it was an expression of feeling, not a painting (As you said) ;) )
regarding the storm -- once upon a time, someone pointed out to me that Beethoven (perhaps accidentally) got the movement of lightning correct. The stabs in the middle of the fourth movement, which correspond to lightning and thunder, move *upwards* (see the violin part at 7:14). Eventually, when physicists and slow-motion cameras could take apart a lightning bolt, we found out that lightning (the light, not the electrons) does indeed start by going upwards (then, of course down/up/down...)
There are several. String section is made by violins, violas, cellos and basses. Woodwind section has flutes, piccolo, oboes, clarinets and bassoons. Brass sections has french horns, trumpets and trombones. And there is timpani on the percussion section. This is what we have at this work, and quite representative of what we generally find at early romantic symphonic music. The instrumentation can change a lot depending on the work you're listening to.

You're absolutely right. Though I think 3 and 9 just beat out 6, the Pastoral Symphony is close to perfection.

The fourth movement would not agree. The main melody of the movement is not joyful in any way, but it’s still spectacular!
This symphony is revolutionary, not only for telling a continuous story but using the orchestra as a sound design tool.
The story it tells is all the value. Imagine Beethoven during the modern age of cinema. He missed it by mere decades.

It's my favourite Beethoven symphony, because it's easy on the senses. And just so beautiful.

Yeah, I like Telemann, he does good viola music. Some of the viola players at my school played his viola concerto once.
