your film making ability is insane. your story telling, production, editing, its all world class. i deeply enjoy and appreciate your videos, especially as a fellow photographer/coffee snob/runner. keep doing you man and thank you for giving us these videos
I loved this video! I’ll admit I was laughing out loud because my wife and I used to love our pour over coffee but now with two kids and a busy work schedule we can hardly get coffee made with a coffee maker. But this made me nostalgic for life before kids and I love how much you appreciate such simple but beautiful things as a really good cup of coffee. I look forward to the next video!
I’ve always used the inverted method...but this makes me want to try it the regular way. Keep exploring different videos, these are just fantastic. Anything about coffee, I’ll be watching!
Thanks Brian. Ian was telling me how he judged and aeropress competition and everyone was using the inverted method except for one person and they won. I went back to the regular method after that. I dont notice much difference but upright seems more consistent for me.
Dan Whitehead that’s really interesting...clearly there is something in the regular method that changes the process enough (even slightly) to make a better cup. I’ll be trying that tomorrow. Keep stuff like this coming! Love this!!
My wonderful wife has bought me one for my birthday. I followed you recipe and WOW it’s an amazing cup of the black gold!! Thanks for the video Dan. Keep up the amazing video’s
ahhh happy to hear it working for you mate awesome! such a great method as you can basically take it anywhere I have even made one on a plane just ask for a cup of boiling water and voila.
Been a huge fan of yours and the aeropress for a very long time. Never had any luck with the normal method and always go back to the inverted. However I will absolutely give this a shot since it's slightly different than I have done upright before. Only thing in the video I though that was missing was a measurement on how much coffee you use. Keep up the great work Dan!
Two things I’m looking forward to the most on a Monday morning: a new video from Dan and my cup of AeroPress coffee... And this was insightful, I never realized how important the grind was. Have watched dozens of videos trying to understand how to make the taste less acidic and here you go, took you a few words to explain 😂 I’m in the inverted method camp tho 👌
I'm pretty sure all runners love running! Super interesting. Those hand grinders can be time consuming though. I never used an aeropress so this was informative. Thanks Dan!
Hey, UA-cam suggested your video and I subbed after watching your Aeropress video. It is not for the coffee. It is for the way you made your video. Good one. 🤟🙏
Dan I'm in. Post whatev about what whatev you want. You are a Levi or Casey for me! You brought me in as a runner and held on strong with your humble nature. Keep on keepin on! Cheers bruh!
I’m an inverted man myself, find it easier when rubbing the sleep out of eyes in the morning!!! Keep putting the vids out mate, will take whatever you want to share :)
One suggestion--if the grind is the most important thing, maybe you should show a clearer picture of what grind size you use or at least give a generic "medium-fine," "fine," etc. That would be more useful to the 99.99% of people who don't have that grinder and thus find that "x clicks on this grinder" pointless.
The thing is, it's always approximate cause not all beans are the same. You can use the same grind with similar beans and you'll still have to adjust. Medium fine is a good description, not as fine as for espresso, but finer than drip.
Thank you very good video I just got the Aeropress today and I have watched a ton of videos by Top Coffee connoisseurs and I think yours makes more sense. I also just recently got the javapresse manual coffee grinder it's pretty good.
Sometimes it seems that coffee is more about the method than anything else as no matter what I do it never tastes good or bad. It's just hot and it wakes me up. So I wonder if there is this magical world of coffee making where it's going to wow me with it's taste. So I watch videos (yours I enjoyed alot) and wonder if it's just me and my lack of gaining an acquired taste.
Great video. Pretty much the same routine as I have with the Aeropress. Mine goes everywhere with me now. I have a Porlex grinder which is really nice but that's also on the expensive side - I see it as a lifetime investment though! Interestingly (for those that like coffee!) I've left my coffee brewing in the Aeropress for like 5 mins or more sometimes when I've got sidetracked and it's still been good. My point being, I'm still not sure how critical the timing is as long as it's not too short.
Interesting to see you went away from inverted, I went the other way. I managed to grab a free electric grinder, in the form of a bench top espresso machine with a busted valve. It is considerably more consistent than the hand grinders I have used. It's much quicker than hand grinding too, especially if you have company
You should try the fellow prismo an accesorie for aeropress if you like strong coffee. It gives you a result in the cup something like between espresso and filter!!i really enjoy your videos!keep up!
You should do a study of your filming techniques. I think many of your viewers find your videos aesthetically pleasing, but aren't sure why specifically (such as myself). It'd be useful for those just getting into filmmaking too.
Thanks for the idea Marco. I would probably enjoy making that but I am self taught and I dont even feel like I know what I am doing myself most of the time. I just try and go by feel and take inspiration from my favorite movies. There are also a lot of channels that make these style videos who know so much more then me. Check out creativenorth Johnny is an amazing film maker and makes incredible videos about film making, documentaries etc.
@@DanWhitehead I'd second this suggestion. A description in your own words even if you don't feel that you know what you're doing would be ideal. Also, you clearly do know what you're doing mate!
love it man! my wife got me my aeropress for my birthday along with a book on last years' world aeropress championship - every recipe by the winner of each participating country! i know you like a well laid out book, so this could be something for you, too. it also shows all of the different regional event posters with lovely artwork and illustrations. also: you should check the origins of the coffee you like. i recently learned that african beans tend to be fruitier and lighter and the south american ones, for instance, more chocolaty and rich.. of course, there's always exceptions, though. keep it up man and warm greetings from barcelona!
Very cool - i've been experimenting with how I make my coffee at home and definitely always prefer the Aeropress, or Chemex if i'm making more than one cup.
Some helpful points to make, if you know the answers: * Does grind size affect ultimate concentration or acidity? * Does water temperature affect ultimate acidity? *Does brew time before press-filtration affect ultimate acidity? *Starting with a light, medium, medium-dark, or dark roast.. how do these factors affect the above? Adding extra water after press would adjust the final result to whatever strength someone might want, my guess.
haha Billy Yang! I agree regarding the grinding-phase. I have no grinder so I buy grinded-coffee from the local roaster and it is consistently mediocre... haha.
Go finer with grind. Tamp lightly. Pour about 1/4 of the water and let it set for 20 seconds. Pour the remaining water in and start plunging immediately. No stirring. Use your forearm as it will take some weight to do it. Using the same coffee it will give a different flavor. I like a strong bittersweet flavor and this way does it for me. BTW I do not weigh anything and have invested in a really good grinder. To see what a difference a really good grinder can do try a shot with yours and then with the good grinder. You can tell the difference. Especially when you get to finer grinds.
It's coffee...not a fine wine. I promise you that if I had two cups of coffee, one with a circular pour and one with a straight pour, you would not be able to tell the difference. Why must people get so bougie with coffee?
Hi Dan, new subscriber here, really enjoying the videos and the way you film them! What watch are you wearing in this video as really like the look of it??? Thanks
