My experience is that putting the stress on the rope is preferable to putting it on the tarp. Which you demonstrated cleanly and with artwork that is positively Rockwellian. Good video.

That's a great explanation of the pros & cons of the two different setups. I suppose with a split ridgeline, one could also provide stress relief by putting a small loop of shock-cord as part of each of the ridgelines going to the trees.

This is exactly what I do with my DCF HG WinterPalace for preventing the stress to fabric. The shock-cord can be quite heavy duty. One end of tarp is enough.

This video got a like because you brought up a few things I already knew to be my preferences and a few things I didn't already know, so I learned something.

I could not agree more! Over several years' use I damaged a dyneema hex tarp using split ridgelines. I am sure that had I used continuous ridgelines from the beginning, it would still be in good shape today.

I use a continuous ridge line.
In fact, I use one made by you, sir.
    Great illustration. 🤘

Great stuff. I’m new to the “am steel” world , used para cord forever. Would love to know a couple things I come up against since I’ve been going through a lot of your videos. 1. Where do you get the tools you use for splicing and making ridge lines. 2. Some of your videos show you using a small device on your line you use you call a toggle , but not the toggle I’m used to. Thanks for all of these videos, keep them coming😊

I prefer the split ridgeline, and am at the point where I have a fairly good idea where I need it - so not a big deal as you mentioned. I never gave much thought to the stress on the material at the D-rings, but certainly worth keeping an eye out for any stress. (I have a DCF and sil-poly tarp)
I also use 1.75 Zing It as a ridge line on the tarp itself so I can hang things inside.

My tarps (both Warbonnet) I use 1.75 Zing It with Dutch’s wasps. Everything else is hardware free with 1/4” shock cord on the D rings. Those Wasps just work great! I tried continuous ridge line, but I keep my tarp in a snake skin, so separate is better for me. Cheers.
