Merci!
Again, at age 71, hearing a work for the first time by a composer rarely played nowadays. I assume there is a first quartet lurking in the background somewhere :) Update on 24 December: located your upload of Quartet 1 :)
Moins "réussi" que son deuxième quatuor mais toujours aussi "Français" et très agréable à écouter. Bravo au quatuor Joachim pour son interprétation et à Olla-Vogala pour ce partage !
There are some gorgeous moments in this quartet, particularly in the finale. When all four instruments are in a moderately high register and all are playing in equal eighth notes, the sonorities are radiant. The quartet as a whole seems obsessed with a four note motive, an upward interval of a second (usually a minor second) followed by an upward leap of a third and a descent of a second. This is similar to but not identical with the famous four note motive in the finale of Mozart's Jupiter Symphony. In Mozart's case the upward second is a major interval. The whole motive is CDFE where d'Indy's motive is G#ADC#. Much of the quartet is quite contrapuntal.

As a simple listener I do not find that d'Indy's charm wears thin here, it is a beatiful and charming quartet. I like it much more than the first.

Opps. The trouble is you can't see the score while you're writing your comments. The d'Indy motive is G#AC#B. Not what I wrote above.
+Charles McHugh The motif is in the score at the very beginning. It's in the top right.
Mozart....could be....but you detected NO Janáček at all? (Or was it the other way around?)
Leo like this. thanks u tube.
Hey now I made this video, it wasn't 'magically' provided by youtube ;)
