Sounds like you have a compass calibration issue. That would be consistent with both apps being goofy. Flux compasses can usually be fixed by making a figure eight with the phone. A specific mode may be required (sorry, not an Apple guy.) Google maps frequently hits you with a splash screen when out of tolerance. Google monthly updates just hit this week if on Android. Good luck.
As soon as you mentioned the compass I realized that the settings on my phone may need attention. You're right. During the last IOS update my compass must have been un-allowed to use location services. I turned it back on and my blue dot seems to be working much better. I'll try it out later today for directions. Thanks!
The circle you took to "nowhere" was not a big one - by car. On foot, it's probably tens of kilometers. Luckily, any LRT there could take you back to KL Sentral.
Wow..I didn't know jaya shopping centre is still there. It was so popular back in the 1970s and 80s. I think it was near the old federal Hotel. I haven't been there in decades.. thanks for going there and sharing your journey. By the way, it is ferdinand magellan. Syabas, you're discovering new areas by getting lost. It's an adventure. Have you tried the wazw app. I used it for driving and it's excellent. It's cooler in Malaysia in general due to the rainy monsoon season. Watch out for the downpour and bring an umbrella when you go out. Cheers.
I'll have to look into this. One of my 'things' recently has been to use as much of the Apple environment that I can, mainly because the apps work well together and are free. Apple Maps is their only app that has given me trouble.

I like the little monorail. KL is a great city. Off to TRX mall today.

Yes, I use Waze when driving. I don't think I would ever attempt to drive in KL without it.
Apple Map probably shines in the US and UK especially with their cool 3D mapping. Over here, Google Map is king.. lol!
