Me at 7:15 whenever Holon Phantom features a spread deck: "This game is a trainwreck." Also me at 7:15 whenever Holon Phantom features a spread deck: "Have faith. Holon Phantom wouldn't have featured this game if it didn't come down to the wire in the end." For context, I find I generally don't personally enjoy playing spread decks (Or perhaps it would be more accurate to say they generally don't enjoy playing me) because I have a harder time estimating how close I was to achieving my goal when I lose or at any point in the game, especially given how many spread decks rely on trying to trap something in the active. I did, however, enjoy playing Honchkrow Spread in the Sun and Moon through Lost Thunder format. Such a funny mixture of attackers... Guardians Rising Honchkrow, Burning Shadows Weavile, Ultra Prism Weavile, and of course the unforgettable promo Tapu Koko. The concept of spread damage fueling OHKO moves just seemed like tons of fun to play around with, and I have also used both Weavile and Honchkrow (Probably the edgiest Pokémon you'll see this fan of Lapras and Charmander hanging around with) on my playthrough teams in the video games. On the bright side, it's always lovely to see a spread deck's game plan falling into place, whether that looks like devolving a few Pokémon or crippling your opponent's entire board.
Also, standard format moment. I remember the sentiments concerning the tera rule being a private "Bench Barrier" (Technically a private "Daunting Pose" or "Spherical Shield") back when Paldea Evolved was new and all the tera Pokémon were bad. The general consensus seemed to be that Pokémon had given them a powerful but irrelevant effect simply because they didn't expect the cards to be good. Now that Surging Sparks is four days from full release, tera Pokémon are all over the place and the main complaint seems to be about how many cool rogue spread decks the tera rule is stifling.
@@holon_phantom Definitely a fun and satisfying concept. It's just hard for me to forget all the nerve-racking games I've experienced while piloting some of them.
They can be tricky. This video has been one of the longest to make because of how many games we played trying to get a good one for the camera. There were so many that were one-sided one way or the other and didn't make for a very exciting video.
@@holon_phantom So I'm not the only one who's noticed the sometimes all-or-nothing nature of spread deck games? (Perhaps that's a better way to describe it, by the way.) Exactly how many games did you have to play?
Vileplume was the unsung hero here. Tried to make Leafeon/Amoongus work back then because i couldnt seem to pull gengar prime. Wanted to run lostgar so bad in this era. Mew was the better pick though for competitive play.
You're old. ;) (You heard it here first, folks!) I get the same feeling remembering things that happened as early as two years before COVID. The last six just seem to blend together the moment I try to remember when a Lego set was released, or when a certain vacation happened.
I remember going to this world championship a day early and we couldn't get into our hotel room so we (5 guys all together) had to sleep in the car in the parking lot lol Good times
@@holon_phantom These days you wouldn't have been able to get in because a hoard of your competitors had descended on the booking office like a swarm of locusts. Back then I'm guessing you just forgot your keys or something.
It's one of my favorite cards! I used to have one in my cube. It was the Call of Legends artwork, and I got it for less than a dollar just before its price went crazy (Unironically, I love it just as much for the illustration as for the effects).
Oh my goodness I was not expecting that outcome. How awesome
It was a fun game!
the way this mew deck plays is so creative!!! i'm glad I found your channel. Keep up the good work!
Damn that was a great match. Well played by both trainers.
Dam the mew come back is insane

Spread decks are some of my favorite to use. 2005 tyranitar and rock lock (also featuring tyranitar) are super fun

2011 is retro?
Oh god, I remember going to my country's nationals like it was just yesterday

That Jirachi is really devastating card.
Came in handy!
