Thanks a bunch. Growing wheat grass for my rabbit and noticed a bit of mold. Will definitely be sanitizing my pots and getting a fan going forward. I also think I’ve been overwatering, because I’ve been spraying instead of bottom watering. Do you think bottom watering is the way to go?

New grower here with big plans...
I have a grow space that seems to fluctuate between 72degress and 79 degrees (farenheit) and the humidity will fluctuate between 35%-50% everyday.
I have grown rambo purple radish, China Rose radish, spicy salad mix, and red acre cabbage. Probably 4 crops of each over the last 2 weeks. I've learned the radish required a lot of water (4 cups a day under the lights. Less and I'd have a quarter or more of the tray wilt completely)
I haven't yet seen mold on the radish. The red cabbage was in its first day of blackout and I noticed the spider web/ cotton strand type of mold on the surface of the soil and half way up a few 2" stems. The spicy salad mix I noticed mold on harvest day for 1 tray, and right after germination on the other.
I'm thinking I gave the cabbage and salad mix too much water, but I'm concerned the larger fluctuation of humidity and maybe too warm of temps is causing issues.
I have fans on each shelf of lights, I use soil and get all my seeds from True Leaf Market.
Does the range of temp and humidity seem to drastic?

    @antreastziwnis7642 3 роки тому

Hallo man, and thank you for your tips! They help me a lot! I have to disagree with your say that seed sanitation is a waste of time. As an agriculturist with specialization on phytopathology, i known that seeds can very easily carrying fungus spores or other reproducing structures on their "shells" (not the roots) or even viruses inside of it! Using seeds from well trusted company is a very important factor that can reduce the chances of pre-infected seeds. Sanitation of every single tool, equipment and expendable (even the soil if not from the factory) with environmental control as you described, should give you mold free growing every time.

I've only done one tray but I overwatered it and it smelt moldy when I uncovered the weighted tray. Sprayed it with a copper based formula and that did the trick. Anyone have experience with a copper based anti-fungal? Everyone seems to suggest H202 but the copper spray was the only one I could get my hands on in time to save the tray!

Other than keeping the humidity correct in the space , the thing that creates mold is your watering . ….fix your watering and get it right and you won’t have mold….also he said a fan will blow mold spores around to your next tray , don’t use fans

I've had an attack of penicillin mold that only goes for my basil. I have lots of fans dehumidifiers, and I've recently added a air cleaner. It's better now due to that but it's still around. It's odd how it's only on basil and not the other 10 varieties.

    • @DonnyGreens

Very interesting. I'm glad you solved the problem with air purification. Its probably attacking the basil because it specifically likes that variety, or maybe its the weakest variety, or maybe its the hardest to grow and most prone to overwatering so its the first one to be negatively affected

My first microgreens tray ever was a moldy bust! Turnips in a tray with no holes. Water in the bottom of the tray and then soil on top. Mixed well and topped with 1 1/2 ounces of seeds spread evenly. Misted seeds after sewn (very little water when misting). 70 degrees downstairs with very little humidity. Covered with several trays for weight and placed on top of a heat mat. 4 days later, almost the entire middle the tray was nothing but mold. Any advice for a new grower??? My house is 26.8 celcius and humidity is 65%. Everytime I grow microgreens, mold will grow, it is very disgusting. Diluted Hydrogen Peroxide doesn't seem to help.
I''ve added fan now, first I was using too big of a fan and it made my plants too dry, now I've changed it to 8 cm fan x2 but it's still too dry if I don't use growing medium such as cocopeat and germinating seeds will die because of dryness I think, I saw the sprouting tails turned blackish.
I use microgreens tray with lots of holes underneath so I shld be able to grow without cocopeat but its too dry if I use fan and mold still grows doesn't matter if I use fan or not. The difference is the mold will look wet if I don't use fan, and will look dry if I use fan, it is so disgusting there's dry white substance and some kind of spores sometimes, so fan doesn't seem to help.
Seems like the problem is my house's humidity and temp. So I hope ppl that post videos like this have some kind of humidity/temp meter and show the condition in the vid so we can compare our grow environment.
Here are photos of my growing environment :
i.imgur.com/xyXKxsV.jpg 75% humidity with 25 celcius near the plant.
i.imgur.com/x1TvAg1.jpg here is the appearance of the moldy seeds, I've harvested the microgreens, it's safe to eat but below it looks like that so disgusting, I think I'll stop for now until I know any bulls eye solution. I started about 2-3 months ago I forgot exactly when.
i.imgur.com/9swwFEs.jpg this one is from another tray which failed to grow completely, I think I overwatered or underwatered since brownish colors appearing on some leaves, but the other 2 trays grew alright.
i.imgur.com/ZRIXoMf.jpg i.imgur.com/8I46D1P.jpg here is the close up view of the brownish leaves, not too much but it's there, can zoom in for closer look.
