- Bluesky's rapid growth in the past few weeks has put a ton of eyeballs on the social platform, but as its CEO Jay Graber told us at the most recent StrictlyVC event, their goal is not just to recreate Twitter.
Throughout her conversation with TechCrunch reporter Maxwell Zeff, Graber highlighted her belief that "people need to be able to control the social networks they communicate on," regardless of whether that continues to be Bluesky or another federated social platform.
Social media has become so walled-off and algorithm-driven; it's refreshing to hear about initiatives like Bluesky aiming to bring back openness and user empowerment. Excited to see how this evolves!
Maybe it's like that for a reason?
Hope it doesn't go the Wikipedia way.
I'm not an X user, but this talk makes me want to get on Bluesky. Thanks for posting.
This is so refreshing, I do think Jay and her team are really onto something. Platforms are just conduits; the true value of social is in the users, creators and communities. Once you set that free, it won't go back in a box. I especially like her comment about aligning their motivations with the user. And there's no reason IMO that cannot benefit shareholders at the same time.
I think that is great to hear that all of the API's will be locked open and agree its key to real organic growth.
Her and the COO are just such great representatives for 💙Sky!
..will also help to attract more women to the network.
With that constellation I wouldn't be surprised if they would grow to one of the biggest networks.
.. while X is full of entitled drinking age boys never growing mature.
My favorite thing about Bluesky is how easy it is to remove things from my feed and adjust the algorithm to only show me things Im interested in. Its a place I go to avoid the drama if American politics, which is infuriating to be bombarded with when youre not American.
Love BlueSky
The customizability of the feed and moderation are definitely next level with Bluesky, give out programmer vibes for sure. I hope the general population finds the protocol useful so those that like to tinker can take advantage of these tools. I have no idea how the protocol can be monetized in the future though. There’s a reason IMAP, POP3, DNS are not owned by a corporation
MySpace? 😂
I just love for a channel name "TechCrunch" have microphone problems ...
I haven't heard too much about this, but having just binged Silicon Valley this has a Pied Piper vibe to it. I hope they can succeed and that success means building their original vision and not just conforming to the same toxic approach that all social apps follow.
the company is lead by 2 women. I have more faith in women doing the right thing then i do with men doing the right thing right now. can anything change? sure, everything can change, but for now, they are doing a great job.
"very hot startup right now" Now listening to The Propellerheads - History Repeating
I like that Bluesky is a PBC, and that the CEO is now a woman!!! I am done with Facebook and Instagram. And don't let Musk get into your platform!! Bravo!! I'm ready to make the move, this video convinced me!
It's good! I like both Mastodon and Bluesky.
If she wanted she could raise a billion, Bluesky is so hot commodity right now among VCs.
It is a JOKE...A platform full of LIES.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@RonaldWuerch ^^ says a projection troll from X
Hot commodity? Who are you trying to fool Lol
@@lucasfrank8843 a site going in 1y from 1M to 25M users is absolutely a hot commodity. Now key influencers, celebrities and organizations there, combined with superior features mean Bluesky has reached the critical mass where only sky is the limit.
@@lucasfrank8843Zuck isn’t buying this
