My first thing of the morning is coffee and spending time in the word of God! I'm very bless and my day goes well I do make sure I do what's most important. I believe it is prioritize your life and that helps you to monotask. Thank you for your video.

What you are talking about is exactly the practice of mindfulness. Immersing yourself in one thing at a time. It's so much better for our mental health and overall well being. One of my favorite tasks is washing dishes by hand in winter because it's so comforting! Thank you for discussing it!

My Mother always drilled into me growing-up "if it's worth doing than do it right" this pertained to helping her around the house, schoolwork etc. but what it actually did to me was I grew-up obsessive about doing things my house had to be perfect, my children perfect, everything needed to be perfect until my husband told me do it as best you can it doesn't have to be perfect it took a long time to break the perfect cycle! I love your you tube videos Melissa!

I love this so much. An attitude of gratitude is vital for peace and contentment. Slowing down, focusing on each task, helps develop calm. I’m 65 and raised 4 sons, homeschooling for 8 years. I found “urgency” to be the enemy of peace and order. Thank you for sharing this important message. We now have 10 grandchildren and it still applies. ❤️

It really is vital for happiness isn't it? And I just had to declutter my mind and my daily routine. Honestly, I wasn't getting as much done because I got discouraged. Oh you are sooo blessed with those babies. Thank you so much.

I've always called mono-tasking doing whatever you're doing with intention. When I'm setting the table, I place each napkin carefully and mindfully. I got away from it after my husband passed away; I was too scattered and afraid. I'm getting back to it lately, and having you talk about it was a lovely reinforcement for me.
Thank you, Melissa. I love the videos where you just talk to us. I feel like I'm sitting with a dear, dear friend. Much love to you and Doug.

Melissa…once again you’ve inspired me and corrected me and made the day better. I cannot wait to implement this more. You describe me to a T! I also have painful health issue flares and what you described hits home. All this advice I already know is true and is effective…but it’s so easy to forget it and get busy “multitasking” and feeling confused. Confusing is the exact right way to describe it. Thank you!

WOW!!! This is a very profound video!!! I love the message of realizing exactly where you are in the moment. It is so easily overlooked. This is so true for me as well. When I get overwhelmed by a task or even sonnething I enjoy doing such as sewing or crocheting I find myself not finishing at all. I have to focus on one thing at a time, and have never been a multitasker. I used to feel bad about myself for not being able to handle more than one task at a time. However, the older I have gotten, the more I realize I need to enjoy stopping and looking around and enjoying my family. Thank you for the reminder.

Melissa I did exactly that today…I didn’t realize it had a name but I monotasked today! I had my whole place that needed cleaning but today I picked 4 things to accomplish and I only progressed to the next task once I finished the first one!! I organized my purses in my closet. I had so many sitting out from the holidays and they needed their stuffing put back inside each one so I stuffed them and then placed them neatly on my closet shelf. My boots need organizing too but that wasn’t on my list for today! Inext did my laundry which included my bed sheets. I rested in between my loads and took pleasure in sitting on my sofa with my dog! Once my sheets came out of the dryer I made up my bed and vacuumed my way out of my primary bedroom and I quickly vacuumed my other floors as I made my way to my broom closet! I got my four things done one at a time and I feel so good about my day!! I’m especially proud of my organized purses 😊 #monotasking

I used to have a busy life certainly taking care of both my sick husband and my senior kitty that was ill. And I had a good size house. Now that I live in this little tiny apartment 800 square-foot by myself, my life is not busy. It’s boring. I still clean. I’m always going to be a clean freak but other than that I don’t have much to do anymore. If I were healthy, I’d go get a part-time job, but my health is not good. My RA is advancing and my back is bad so basically I don’t have much to do anymore. I used to pet sit for my neighbor when they went away but now they moved and I don’t have that anymore. Your bangs are growing in nicely. Mine are finally starting to grow, but for a long time, I honestly looked like Buster Brown.😊

I love you rambling I could listen all day. This is so true, the run up to Xmas I was running around doing this then that then realising I'd forgotten something so had to sort that out I got everything done then xmas morning started to feel poorly. Only today my mind was thinking about this that and the other in the end I ended up with a headache feeling miserable, and clothes pulled out everywhere because I'm preparing for a funeral and a little holiday. If I'd just concentrated on 1 task at a time I would have achieved so much more your absolutely right xxxx

This speaks to me sooo much!! Especially when speaking about grandkids and feeling like I need to do the same things you listed, snowman, sled, hot chocolate, etc.. I do enjoy all these moments with them but it’s like I’m “checking the boxes” and thinking about the next thing during the moment of the previous…worrying if I’m going to have time to fit it all in. In reality, yes they enjoy it but I think they also just like spending time no matter what we do..as do I. This is definitely something I’m working on and it’s nice to know other brains out there work like mine 😂Thanks for this video! ❤

    • @Melissa55
      @Melissa55  18 годин тому

Yes! Checking the boxes of what a modern grandmother should do. Or a traditional grandmother. And really the best gift we can give them is to be present with them. I tell them about how I grew up and how I raised their parents and it seems to be just as important as that hot chocolate or that snowman. We need to make a pact to give ourselves grace. Thank you and much love!

I was like you….when I was young and having my children, I also planned one task at a time! I also was so happy with life and enjoyed all the small stuff! I chose to stay home with my kids and the world made me feel like I was wasting my time! People would say…”oh, I couldn’t stay home all the time. I’d be so bored!” So when my youngest started school, I got a job. I gave in and became this overworked mother….life filled with business and chaos like everyone around me! I was never really happy but I worked until retirement! I’m 75 now and once again enjoying the simple, gentle life that I really always wanted! Great thought-provoking video Melissa. I'm sure I don't mono-task all the time but as an adult I’ve always been grateful and appreciate what I have because I was raised without so much. I think I make on the spur decisions most of the time about finishing a specific task but then sometimes I have fun trying to see how much I can get done and I jump from task to task. But I think the main thing I've learned since my retirement is that if nothing gets done it’s not the end of the world lol. Love ya..p🌷🌿

Great Video Melissa. I am about your age. I found that when I baked something while still trying to do other things or thinking about things that needed one, I would usually mess up my baking by forgetting something. Now, I have slowed down. If I don’t get my to do list done, I will do them the next day or another day. Thanks for reminding all of us. What scares me is seeing young mothers talking on the phone while driving. Thanks Melissa ❤❤❤

Hi Melissa! I have been following you for a while and I really like your videos and how you share your everyday life with us. I like all your videos but this one was really one of the best you have done. There are so many wise words and so important things to think about. I wish you all the best and you are truly an inspiration to us women 🤗 Best regards from Charlotta in Sweden

I don't do Facebook or Instagram or tic-toc. I don't even have a smart phone. It eliminates so much junk. Unusual, I know. But it can be done :) I wouldn't change it for the world. I've learned that the simpler I make my life the closer I come to God. 💙💗

Many people think they can do multitasking. I find not everything gets done right. I think you get overwhelmed & nothing gets done. I say do one thing & do it right. Something will suffer when you try to multitask. You have the right attitude. Much love, Lucy

Hi Melissa.❤ Loving your hair. You look beautiful as always. You don't look a day over 50! ❤ As an adult, I've always been a multi-tasker. I thought I had to be, to keep up with everything going on in my life. Now I've had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for the past 7 years, so have been forced to slow down completely to the point of mostly being bed-bound. I've had to learn a whole new way of living. I hope one day I recover and that I'll live as you've described, which would be much more sustainable. ❤ God bless you and your followers. Jo (NZ) ❤

Also, I too turn 70 this year (in just a few days the 23rd pf this month) and while age is said to be just a number - this number (70) is a bit harder to get my head around. I still think I'm about 40 - haha!!! You are beautiful today as you always are!! Thanks for always giving us honest and trueful video content - you and MEllen are my two favorite women on UA-cam. What you are describing about being absorbed in the tasks is called "flow" and there is a whole academic theory called Flow Theory that covers this! If you are interested, there is a TED Talk by a professor called Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi about it.

Melissa that was a wonderful video we do too much rushing to get everything done! You just reminded us we need to live our life while it's happening think about what we're doing and just do that nothing else! That was such a wonderful conversation that we so desperately need as we get older because we cannot do the things we used to do when we were young it's impossible it just wears us down 😢 Thank you for that wonderful conversation that we all needed to hear especially the mature women who have been rushing and doing everything all their lives take care my friend💖 Hope all is well with you and your family God bless❤❤

You look great for almost 70! I am 57 and would love to know what your skin care routine is! I have never been on HRT and I know hormones, specifically estrogen, does wonders to keep the skin youthful and producing collagen. Was thinking about estrogen cream for facial use. I’ll need to research that one though. I always enjoy watching your videos. You have such a sparkling personality!

Melissa you’re beautiful inside and out. Thank you for this video on mono tasking I never thought of it before!! But I realized that I do better with this method as well. Off topic, but I can’t believe you’re going to be 70. I know it’s personal, but May I ask if you have had any plastic surgery or injectables etc? You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to of course but you look simply amazing and at least 12-15 years younger than your age. Love your channel. ❤
