I just did my first valve adjustment, knowing all is in the right position: TDC compression=straw up, valves = loose and clicking, because of this video, thank you very much for your help.

It's faster to find TDC if you just put the bike in neutral, pull the rubber plug on the front of the engine, and put a socket on the pully nut and just spin the motor that way.

Make sure the engine is cold (must be parked overnight)
    1. Put the bike on center stand
    2. Remove the valve cover
    3. Remove spark plug wire and the plug
    4. Put the bike in 6th gear
    5. Stick a long enough stick in the spark plug opening
    6. Turn the back wheel until the stick is at the highest standing position
    7. Check each valve to make sure there is some play (clicking as heard in the video when moving)
    8. Using a feeler gauge, check to make sure exhaust valve (facing the front of the bike) gap is 0.15mm and intake valve (facing the rear) is 0.10mm
    9. Adjust each valve by loosening the top nut and then turning the top adjuster till proper gap is achieved and tighten the nut
    10. Install the spark plug
    11. Close the valve cover
    12. Connect the plug wire
    13. Check the other side (engine)
    14. Reinstall/connect everything back up and go for a ride
    Sounds about right?

Much easier to set TDC by aligning the marks on the flywheel, turn the nut on the end of the crank that's under the front cover.

Where are those marks located? On the front of the bike under that round cover? Haven't done this yet on my V7iii but I need to soon. I'm guessing it's similar. On my Honda there's a points plate that you can turn with a wrench. It shows you when you're at Top Dead Center.

I don't know about the Stelvio, but on my 1400 Eldorado i put the shifter in neutral. On the front of the engine is a rubber plug which i remove. On my bike it's between the horns. I then put a socket on the alternator bolt and turn. It beats turning the back tire.

why cant you at least pull a spark plug out of the other cylinder so you're not struggling with its compression when turning the wheel?

Hi, it'sn't better to carry out the alternator cover (4 screws) and put a key on the alternator axe and rotate it? I do so on my V11 Sport. Regards

From Italy: very interesting and useful. Where do you work if the space is higher than 10 and 15? You tighten the screws?

Really great videos...As a new MG Griso owner, I want to learn how to do this but for some reason still mystified by finding TDC; you lost me on the gear selecting part? Does it matter what gear the bike is in when adjusting valves?

6 gear is the easiest gear to rotate the crank and find tdc.

Service manual. Where did you get it, who prints it, what is the part number. Any info is appreciated.
    Thank you very much.

Can someone help me out? Im working on my v7 III valve adjustment. Trying to get the TDC. The spark plugs on both the sides are taken out. I put it in 3rd or 4th gear and turn the wheel forward but the intake nor the exhaust valves seem to move. Neither does the piston. I have turned the wheel wid the clutch pressed and widout but nothing seems to work. What am i doing wrong?

What were you doing between gear shifts? Moving the tire?

    • @68404
      @68404 2 роки тому +1

Yes he was. It takes the tension off the gear mechanism, allowing the next gear to be selected.
