Meis / Kastellorizo Day Trip from Kas (Kaş), Turkey
Вставка
- Опубліковано 28 жов 2022
- When we heard about the Greek Island of Meis / Kastellorizo being only a short ferry ride from Kas, Turkiye (where we were staying), and having seen photos of how colourful and charming the island looked, we had to make the trip over to explore it for ourselves.
⛴️ We booked our ferry tickets (in person) from a vendor we came across in Kas' town centre called Meis Express/Hoppala Travel. Booking in advance by at least a day or two is strongly recommended and you need to check if you have any visa requirements. With our New Zealand passports, we did not require a visa.

🍴 There are a number of restaurants right along the waterfront on Meis/Kastellorizo to choose from and enjoy some Greek cuisine. The spot we ate at for lunch was called Alexandra's. It was amazing having the caretta caretta sea turtles swimming up right next to us.

🛥️ An absolute must-do while on the island is getting on a speed boat over to the Blue Cave. It is simply gorgeous and mesmerizing inside. As we had lunch first and wandered around for a bit, we struggled to find any skippers to take us there as it felt like everyone had already departed but then luck struck and we came across Antonis who just returned from a trip and his wife Kristina helped us organise a ride with him. They also have accommodation on the island too called Mandraki Paradise.

Hahahaha you're too kind thank you 😁🤙
Thanks for your wonderful island trip! Loved your lunch and the blue cave looked breathtaking. Imagine swimming in the cave! The water looked pristine and so lovely to see how quiet and relaxed it all was on the island. Gorgeous weather too which makes all the difference
The water around the island and the blue cave was super clear and inviting... so regret not going for a swim now thinking about it hahaha 😅
Hi Peter &Yen!
Love ,love the scenery in Greece. Thank you again for showing us around beautiful place & food.👍
😁 even though it was so close to turkey it's interesting that the island had a very distinctly Greek feel to it. Was so cool to be able to go there for the day.
Ooooh so beautiful video!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
amazing journey and documentation!
😊🤙 it was an awesome day
This is really indeed an epic day trip to Greek island from Turkey.
I don't know which one is my favourite, the blue cave or the sea turtle encounter during lunch.
Both are such magical experiences! Thanks for sharing with us 😍
Thanks guys! Yea so beautiful and felt like such a surreal experience both the blue cave and seeing so many turtles like that! So cool 🥰🐢💙
Beautiful 😍
💯👍
Thanks for the great vlog. Love the Blue Cave 💦, so peaceful and would want to dive into swim. Look forward to next weeks update on Turkey and have a great week ahead
What a stunning island, turtles and blue cave 💙 😍.. a fabulous adventure!
😁 never knew that such caves existed until this trip. Was a super cool hidden gem 💎 that we were able to visit.
@@PeterandYen and to think that there are seals there too! I never think of there being seals in the Mediterranean 😲
Neither 😂 its always cool to see random native wildlife. One of our favorite encounters to this day is the blue macaw in Taiwan in a local city park. That was epic
Very nice, indeed!
🇹🇷❤️
The blue cave looks unreal! Amazing! 👏👏👏👏
So cool right 😍
@@PeterandYen yeahhh! Since its close you should go to cyprus or further to santorini 😆🙌
😅 we're back in New Zealand already but planning a future trip soon so who knows where we'll end up
what a beautiful place, really have to go there
Peter Bro 😎 why didn’t dive in and get the Kina’s 😉 😂
The blue cave looked amazing you guys…
Another great video and your style is never boring Cheers
😂 I wanted to but the newspaper title of "obnoxious kiwi Asian UA-camrs steal sea protected sea urchins" flashed through my head 😂
@@PeterandYen
Too funny Bro 🤣
What a beautiful island!!
😊👍💯
Such an awesome day out and so very different to Turkey when they're right next door!
I'm pretty sure Mr Turtle followed you though 🐢
😁 these turtles were extra gigantic I think it's cause of all the squid the locals have been feeding them.
It's so interesting right now different everything is from Turkey 🤔
Great video guys, can't believe you got to see the turtle! Greece looks amazing, looking forward to seeing more of your trip.
😁 the sea turtles 🐢 were one of the highlights of the trip for sure. Amazing animals ❤️
wow... that blue cave. Stunning site.
Soooo cool right never seen anything like it before
More turtles!!! And urchins!! And turtles!! (and a cat😁) Great job Peter from National Geographics on the turtle footage 😁😁😁… Very cool to see more turtles… (and the hat again😁😁)…very true…can watch them all day… Looked like an amazing perfect day trip with beautiful views… poor Yen and the seasickness… feel your pain 🤢🤢🤢… glad the ride was relatively short and not too bumpy… thanks guys!! Awesome video as always!
Yeaaaaa amazing little island, I just wanted to get in the water with the turtles 🐢 the whole time though 😍 then feast on the urchins hahahaha.... that would have been perfect
@@PeterandYen quick question.. is a Cookie Time (red Cookie Monster) a thing in NZ?
It's created in new Zealand and is in every grocery store/ convenience store here just like whitikas chocolate 🍫 😁 we've got bags of them in the pantry right now hahaha
@@PeterandYen haha thanks!! I love cookies (and ice cream, and chocolate, and….)… just passed a shop in Japan and well, can’t pass a cookie store without giving my respect…
Hahahaha o Japan has a special cookie time store with flavors that we can't get here in Auckland. Enjoy! 😉👍let us know what you think too
Amazing , good on you.😊
Thank you 😊 🤙
Wowww, so amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this with us 😍😍
Such a beautiful n colorful city n the octopus looks yummy😍😋
Very yummy 😋 😍
wow that footage of the sea turtle!
The water was so clear and great to see so many sea turtles 😍🐢
What a really neat place. Beautiful footage. Thank you for taking us with you.
😁 was an excellent first outing to Greece 🇬🇷 enjoyed seeing the turtles 🐢 the most
Just discovered your lovely channel. You're helping me with my trip to Turkey so much! My friends and I are exploring Istanbul for a week but I knew I had to see more of the country, so now I'll be getting an additional flight into Kas and seeing the surrounding islands! :) P.S. was there a way to get a Greek stamp in your passport? I love collecting them!
Great choice visiting Kas it was one of our favorite places to chill. You get a Meis ferry stamp that's cool in its own right but I think will be pretty different to a Greece 🇬🇷 stamp. Enjoy your travels 😊
Thanks for the video. It was sublime. I went to Kas about the same time last year. I'll definitely check Meis/Kastalorezzo next year. Loved seeing the kina!
All goods glad you enjoyed it 😁🤙
Best vlog on your trip so far, I reckon. Absolutely stunning place... I wouldn't have been able to stop myself from getting some kina though lol... Thanks guys, great vid. 👍🏾🙂
Oooo thank you for the kind words 😁🤙 yeahhh honestly I was pretty tempted to swim with the Turtles then go a bit deeper for 4 or 5 kinas there were so many 🤤🤤🤤
@@PeterandYen they looked pretty fat too... ☺️
Very nice blog
YUM greek food looks amazing!!! Awww LOVED the kitties hehe! WOW that cave is amazing. It was lighter then I thought!
Beautiful trip as usual ❤
😊❤️🇹🇷
Love your Greece side trip! Brings back memories of the best tasting grilled fish I have ever had in Greece😋
That sounds delicious 🤤 we are going to explore Greece properly in a few days from now excited 🔥
Hi Peter & Yen! U got a 2fer 1! awesome vid on Greece! Hey Yen try using the Kongdy Seasick Patches. They're natural & work immediately. I get seasick on cruises and sometimes in kayaks. I get them on Amazon 20 for about $15 NZD. Now I always travel w/them. Easy to pack in your wallet just in case
Ooo thank you for the recommendation! I'll need to check them out 😃🙏🙏
So IN LOVE.
Omggg y’all are all
Over! I love it
Hahaha first time going to Greece for us or to another country by a 20 min ferry lol 😂 it was an awesome day.. turtles, magical blue cave.. couldn't ask for more 💙 💙
good video mate
Cheers man 😁👍
Kaş ❤️
Lucky you ! The Greek Island of Meis is just so beautiful, and the blue cave must be a once a lifetime experience. Excellent video, guys.
😁👍 thanks glad you enjoyed it
You guys are so lucky with turtle encounter. That turtle must be a local and the water is so clear. I love Europe, so many countries are so close to each other. Love this ep
The water was soo clear! Can't decide what we enjoyed more, the turtles or that magical blue cave 💙😍 both amazing and feel lucky to see it all
@@PeterandYen 💯 I love both but I love turtle so much
Love your vids guys! This is the island where my mother was born. A lot of us Aussies have a connection to this island as a lot of Greeks migrated to Australia from this island back in the day (from World War II onwards). The island is known as ‘Kazzi’ to the Greek diaspora.
Wow, that's incredible going from this small Greek island to Australia. It would have been such a huge change for your mum. Thank you for sharing. Have you been to visit?
@@PeterandYen I’ve only been once. Your video did justice to the beauty of the place! 👍🏽 Going to your home country next week for the first time! 10 days in the South Island. Very exciting! Keep up the great work with your travel vids!
Wow that's exciting. Hope you enjoy your time in the south island 🏝 it's a wonderful place 👍
Ah yeah just gotta love day trips, wherever they are! And how about that only 20 minutes to another country! Oh yeah true I guess you would need passports when you do that boat trip! Oh no Yen yeah you should have had some breakfast that morning before the boat! But yeah how awesome you have the sealife as company on the ride and likewise when you had lunch - at least Yen you finally had food haha! Speed boat, yeah well you gotta do that and heck that blue water as know of Greece and more wow at that cave! Wow cool view from up that monument and yeah well done on that! Yeah really great job and one heck of a day trip!
Haha yeah felt so odd for us to need passports to take a boat ride then 20 mins later we're in another country 😂 super cool. Loved the blue cave and those turtles too it was an awesome as day. Thanks for binging our videos btw! 😁🙌
So cool you got to go to Greece! We are thinking to go to Rhodes in March...fingers crossed. There are so many Greek islands that are so close to Turkish land.
Look at our turtles!! In love!!!
Greek salad and octupus! What a fantastic treat! We love grilled octopus and I truly hope one day we can treat ou to a wonderful Spanish octopus 😉
What a fun boat ride, guys. What an experience, I hope my claustrophobia lets me enjoy that place one day.
Hahaha we will be going to Morocco this year but still no plans to visit Spain yet. We'll get there eventually I'm sure. Also we're planning to go to Crete (Greg's recommendation) this year too so more Greek travels to come 😁👍
@@PeterandYen awesome
Hi peter and yen! What month dis you visit turkey? Again, u guys didn’t disappoint in making me jealous! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hahahaha we went during turkey summer during June to August. The weather was beautiful 🇹🇷😁
Is it even possible that Peter voice is getting deeper?! 😂😂😂
You know what's funny I can't hear it anymore 😂 and then someone will randomly mention his deep voice and I'm like oh yea... he does have a deep voice 😂😂 that's what being together 17 years does.. 😂😂 i think it's even deeper still since these videos coz we got back to NZ and he finally did his nose surgery to correct his deviated septum.. so now he has even more airflow, prob adds to it or somethin 😂
My flight from Izmir is at 7pm and that day I am off the tour company, do you know where can I check one-day trips to Greek islands like this one? Thanks. Amazing video
👍👍👍
😁🤙
We are heading to Turkey in September, hope to be in Kas for a few days, what time of year were you on this trip (would LOVE to see the blue cave in Greece!)?
Hiya we were at Kaş and Meis at the start of July last year 🙂👍 hope you get a chance to visit, it's so beautiful 💙💙💙
Love ur video❤
How long we need to spend in Kastelorizo if we just want to see Blue Cave? Plan to fly from Rhodes and arrived at 12pm and leave by ferry to Kas at 4pm. Would that be enough?
Hello think you should have enough time to see the blue cave within 4 hours the round trip is about an hour and a bit. The hardest part is finding someone to take you.
Your advice. Staying in Kas for 3 nights. Is it worth going to Greece or should we just explore Kas and the surrounding area more?
Kas is a really nice place, but if you aren't spending any time in the other neighboring areas you might want to stay on the Turkish as there are a lot of interesting near by places to visit.
Hey! It's a great Adventure. bdw do you have Visa Yunani for this? Or it's free.
It depends what passport you have for the visa situation. You are entering a different country.
Do we need a visa to visit Greece island?
Did they use the turisk riyal as currency in greece?
Hello I would like to know how many hours did the trip take because It seems like u went back to kas at noon
The ferry ride was around about 20 min and we caught the lunch time ferry in which gave us around about 4 or 5 hours on the island (from memory)
If l buy house can l live live there?and is there ferryboat service everyday from kaş turkiye?
Is this place in Kas or Greece??? Can a tourist from India who visited Kas Turkiye visited this island without Geece Visa or they are providing Temporary Visa to visit this island???
it is part of turkish province kaş but under gayreek occopition
According to the 2021 census, the population of Kastellorizo is 594 people. 😀
We remembered reading it was around 500 too after but when talking to the locals back then they told us it was about 150 permanent residents only so don't know 😅 we did visit shortly post-pandemic so maybe some left for awhile 🤔 it sure felt like very few people and homes tho! 😆
