This is a great tutorial - any other World Party songs would be appreciated. Seen World Party live a fair few times and I always felt their live performances were even better than the records as you always got extended or different versions of songs. Karl was such a great musician. That said when I was learning guitar watch WP was very confusing - seeing a right handed guitar being played left handed was hard to understand!
I believe most guitar players will locate more readily where the A lies on the top string rather than the B and that it's also easier to think in terms of going one fret up rather than down. So A# is a more "natural" choice than, say, Bb for a guitarist to describe the note at the 6th fret on the top string. In theory, however, things are different. Feel free to ignore the rest of the message if you don't care about why it is so. 😅 This is a I-V-IV progression in the key of F major. So the basic scale for this key is the F major scale which spells like this: F G A Bb C D E. The IV degree chord should then theoretically be described as a Bb major chord. Going the other way round, for the IV chord to be A# major, the key has to be E# major, so let's spell out the E# major scale: E# F## G## A# B# C## D##, which you'll agree it's a big mess with all those double sharps. If you have available a circle of fifths, you can also quickly check that there is no such thing as an E# major key, and the reason for that is the avoidance of double accidentals, no key signature has double accidentals. Cheers!
What’s puzzling you is the nature of my game.....RIP Karl

Thanks KDA. I remembered Karl being in the Waterboys, so I my ears pricked up at the first World Party album. A sad passing for music, indeed.
Great tribute. Great tune! 👍
Karl is awesome. Thanks for the lesson.
