The idea to cut off the 5 PM newscast is maybe suitable for the rest of the country. However, it isn't for the maritimes. Live At 5 (AKA CTV News at 5) is the #1 program. Why would CTV touch that? It's been an institution for 40 years (since September 13, 1982). In typical Toronto-centric-fashion, they didn't look into the history of the channel, ask themselves what the audience might want or gauge what the impacts could be by interrupting the ONLY reason people turn on CTV anymore. Honestly, they could have cut off half of the 6 PM newscast with Todd Batis and it would have been much better- AND they would have had a unified runtime with atlantic and eastern time zones being aligned. But again, what do we know?

Not a fan of the National and International News Break on the 6PM Weekend News since CTV News at Five weekdays started airing for half an hour.
