I love how is he observe john with delicate and passion? I cant get enough from this show, rip to jeremy brett and Edward hardwicke, alongside with david burke #2 john watson, three of them truly legends.
The people in the comments are incredible. Why go out of your way to (presumably) search for a compilation specifically pointing out what the author had deemed to be gay moments in a tv show from the 70s just to be bitter? I'm aroace, and I see myself in Holmes. I personally view his and Watson's whole thing as a sort of undefined qpr more so than romance, but I really like seeing other people's queer interpretations of them, especially because they're different from mine. Anyway, I love this adaptation. It's so gentle and nice.
Nah, they're just the best of friends. They belong to a healthier time that allowed men more leniency in being refined and elegant, which has now been deemed as foppish. Not all soulmates are joined together in warmth of a bed, but sometimes are joined with good conversation near the hearth. But I will agree that the best friends do talk like old married couples; a certain complete mutual understanding and need for one and other comes with long true friendships.
even knowing that in your view they are not a couple, I believe that their friendship is something very beautiful and profound. because Holmes was an introvert and had a friend he could trust who loved Holmes' skills and adventures he probably wouldn't have had he not known him. nowadays it is difficult to have a friendship where both parties are valued, we are very superficial.
The characters definitely have an unspoken love between them, but whether that love ever became that of naked physical intimacy can only be guessed at. Is it important to our enjoyment of these stories?
The fact that men these days can't express in words or in loyal deep friendship, their platonic love without the fear of that love being perceived as sexual, speaks for the shallowness of the Modern Age, where everything is reduced to Freudian psycho-babble or dull macho social posturing.
@@peterjanssen5901 The fact people equate being attracted to the same gender as inherently sexual, without acknowledging non-physical romantic affection, is baffling to me.
I guess this is a compliment toward his acting on scenes that happens to be his most gay scenes!!?? I love all of Sherlock Holmes him and Dr. Watson .. but for Jeremy Brett’s gay scene or not i dont know, but I like the part where he says “..deduction is so unnecessary on the flowers..do not drawn your conclusions l, for i am not a magician ..” S1E3
Why are they gay? I mean they could be gay or not gay, it matters not. But two bachelors living together as good friends or two brothers or two sisters are also 'married' to each other as they know their companion's habits and personalities, without necessarily having a romantic connection. What about Tintin and Capt Haddock?
Shhh guys. Don’t let the straights know you should actually *like* your parter before being in a relationship with them. They live off “I hate my wife/husband” jokes.
It is almost ridiculous how some people insist on these 2 being homosexual. Dr Watson was happily married before his wife died suddenly. Holmes was asexual. Remember this is not hapenning in 2024. Even now men happen to share a flat without necessarily being a couple😂😂
It’s also ridiculous how you think anything you’ve said here constitutes a solid counterpoint to a homoromantic interpretation of Holmes and Watson’s relationship. Being previously married to a woman does not prevent Watson from being attracted to a man. Your presumption that Holmes is asexual is equally as unfounded as any other guess at his sexuality, as he never describes himself with that word. And the time period has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not two men could fall in love, only whether or not they were free to express it openly. One wonders why you clicked on this video considering the title. Just to be contrarian and shit on other people’s perfectly valid interpretations? Get a life.
Why must you make everything straight? Not enough straight movies and TV shows for you to watch? Just have a burning urge to take away what scraps of queerness we can find to enjoy for ourselves among the flood of straightness in media?
Also, read the book and look at history. Arthur Conan Doyle wrote the book about as gay as he could get away with and not end up in prison like his friend Oscar Wilde. It was quite the knife's edge he walked with the Sherlock Holmes stories.
Except they weren’t. Displays of public affection were shied upon. They were literally as conservative and homophobic as it gets. Look at old people today. How many boomers are of that same conservative mindset.
@@kingrobthegreat7446 Sherlock was written in the 1800 by Doyle. Those times were extremely homophobic in England. How homophobic? They show affection, domesticity, they’re comfortable. At the end of the day make you’re own conclusions. For you, their just friends. That’s fine. But I choose to believe that Holmes somewhere along their adventures realised he loved Watson but wasn’t sure quite how to define love as an emotion since previously he’s thought to have non.
