Now that I’ve remodeled our courtyard with new artificial turf, I started to look for some key furniture pieces online and found so many great options (and a ton on sale) on Wayfair. Wayfair actually has a UA-cam channel now and their new series- Swapping Carts inspired me to put together some mood boards based on how I imagine the courtyard will function.
Swapping carts is a hilarious series where 2 friends, partners, or spouses shop for Wayfair items for each other based on a wishlist and save key pieces into their carts. They then share their carts with each other to see if they hit or miss. This is such a great idea to enlist your stylish friend with impeccable taste to help you design your dream space! Who would you want to see build a shopping cart for you?

What is the rule on mixing kitchen appliance brands. For example - a Kitchen Aid & Bosch in the same kitchen. Is it ok if they are both stainless steel or are the styles too different?

One other factor to consider is wind - we get crazy winds here and our outdoor furniture, especially the pieces on our elevated deck, have to be heavy enough not to blow around.

The problem is that everything we have bought from Wayfair (a bistro set, a dining set and other outdoor pieces of furniture) arrived broken. Now do not get me wrong, it did not arrive damaged in shipment, it arrived outright broken.
Businesses like Wayfair should be held accountable for the amount of what they sell that ends up in landfills. They are a menace for the environment.
Outdoor storage would be wonderful! Unfortunately most outdoor storage is not rainproof. Those cushions? End up moldy.

Hey Julie love your videos! I was wondering if you could do a video on incorporating cultural pieces in a more updated design such as scandinavian. Im have a multicultural family and I find it hard to make sense of korean and puerto rican antiques with this design without making it look too traditional.
Will do Alyssa! The key is no more than one statement piece per room. You can sprinkle the accessories throughout, but if you have one large piece like an armoire, mix in Scandi to help it truly stand out 👍🏻☺️

I used to live in Portland so I understand completely. Weatherproof wicker did well Margie, just make sure they’re the heavier pieces so the wind doesn’t blow them away. I also used furniture covers off season

I purchased my outdoor wicker couch & loveseat at American Furniture Warehouse in Gilbert, AZ a few months ago. I need to get some sort of ottoman & small table for out there next. I have covers for my couch & loveseat since it can be 115 degrees here & higher & also super windy!

Feng Shui loves symmetry with larger objects (like nightstands), but as a modern designer I always use the rule of 3’s for decor Marisela

Hi Julie, thanks for another great video. So glad you did not once mention a barbecue! here in Australia a barbecue is considered as essential a part of the outdoor setting as a TV is to a living room -- despite the fact that nearly all Australians use their $1,000 barbecue on wheels no more than 2 x per year, (the other 363 days it is just taking up outdoor space, complete with unsightly tarpaulin). It's the norm for even small apartments to have a barbecue sitting on their balconies. If you don't have a barbecue, your friends and family will think they are answering your prayers by buying you one for your next present. Then they will pester you saying when are you going to christen it, so you will be forced to not only hold an actual barbecue(!), but to invite them, so they can watch you struggle with it and then tell you how to do it properly (deep sigh). Your outdoor area, (with no barbecue in view), is already looking gorgeous!
Haha this is so interesting!! I love it when global viewers weigh in! I do have a rolling cart BBQ, but it’s hidden in my backyard, not front and center in my courtyard 😂
