    What about games like Maniac Mansion and Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders? Games that needs to change and flip disks and being able to save a game.

    5:02 It wasn't readily apparent how you were able to mount the drive, but I found that option by pressing Shift+Return. I really like this option because it allows read and write access to the D64 file and remains persistent even after resetting... and doesn't automatically load a program. I've only been using this cartridge for a couple days and really like it... and loads and saves are lightning-quick!
    Edit: I wanted to try sending files between a PC and the C64, so as to avoid the need to shuffle the MicroSD card from computer to computer. I was able to use the included ef3usb utility to send a file from the PC to the C64 and have it execute immediately upon completion of transfer by using the 'send' parameter. Now I'm just struggling to figure out how to send a file the other direction - from the C64 to my PC. Has anyone had any success with this? For clarification, the source file would be one of the prg files contained within a D64 image file on the MicroSD card.

    Nice overview. I look forward to checking this out once it is NTSC compatible. BackBit is also a great cart and I like how you showed the similarities. Keep the videos coming, nice work.

    So is KFF basically a SD2IEC in cartridge form, but does not really do many disk files? I am just curious about what it really does for you that you would use it for over say a UII+. It is cheaper, so there is that, but all the other functions of UII+ seem so much more worth the investment.

    the small portable monitor you use is really cool! you need an s-video/composite to hdmi converter for it, right?

    • @RetroGameCouch
      @RetroGameCouch  3 роки тому +2

      Yes. It takes mini hdmi or USB-c. I really recommend the Retrotink2x for this.

      16gb is what I used in the video. 32gb should also work as it supports fat32. It refused an 128gb exfat card.

    I like that portable monitor. I currently have a C64 connected to a massive LCD monitor because it's the only one I have that accepts HDMI (I have a cheap AV2HDMI converter). It's good for a laugh though.

    • @RetroGameCouch
      @RetroGameCouch  3 роки тому +2

      I recommend you get a Dell 2001FP monitor for your C64. It has s-video input. Combine that with a good quality s-video cable and have the best setup imho.

    • @WillisZzz
      @WillisZzz 3 роки тому

      @@RetroGameCouch Thanks, I'll check it out. For now I've been thinking a smaller solution like this Kumon 7" IPS monitor. It has AV, VGA and HDMI inputs, so it should come in handy. No S-video, though.
      The primary purpose of the C64 is music production (MSSIAH cartridge) so a smaller screen would be ideal to make for a nice compact setup.

    • @RetroGameCouch
      @RetroGameCouch  3 роки тому

      Considering that a normal iPad is 10", 7" seems tiny. That combined with the inferior composite output and you might have a hard time reading what's on screen.

    • @WillisZzz
      @WillisZzz 3 роки тому +1

      @@RetroGameCouch Yeah, you're probably right; I haven't tried it, obviously, so I'm just brainstorming.
      I'm also looking at old CRT video production monitors, hoping to find something that's not too deep (most of them are very long in the back). They also mostly use BNC, so I'm not sure how to handle that. I'm probably overcomplicating things.
      That and old CRT tv's like the Sony Trinitron. I bought one for $50 years ago but couldn't bring it back to Canada with me when I returned. Now they're going for hundreds of dollars at least.
      It's an odd challenge to find an ideal video setup for the C64, as I'm sure you know. Hence the massive monitor I'm currently using.

    • @RetroGameCouch
      @RetroGameCouch  3 роки тому +1

      You could check out the Retrotink2x (Pro). That takes Composite, component or svideo and upscales it to hdmi. Then you can use any hdmi screen, big or small.
