Born 1940 in Milan, Federico Monti Arduini was a child prodigy who studied piano and was already performing at concerts from the age of eight. He composed pop songs for other artists which sold millions of copies, but his own solo success came after he encountered synthesizers in the early 70s.
Viewed as a precursor of New Age sound art, Arduini was one of the first producers in Italy to use the Moog synthesizer and a meeting with Bob Moog in New York only added to this obsession. He was also an early adopter of the tradition among electronic producers to use a moniker to disguise his identity. Il Guardiano Del Faro (translated as “the guardian of lighthouse”) is a nod to the small Italian fishing town Porto Santo Stefano, where Arduini created his studio in the mid-70s.
He produced a number of albums from this seaside idyl of electronic instruments and tape recorders, but Oasis stands out from the pack. Released in 1978, it became a cult classic for its experimental sounds and emotional expressions. Spiritual synth sounds cover the album in a dreamy haze, oscillating between ambient and psychedelic. Sparing deployment of the Roland rhythm box gives dance floor favourites ‘Disco Divina’ and ‘Oasis’ touches of space disco and even teases proto-house elements like the great Sun Palace.

La splendida "Amore grande amore libero" fu una delle poche cose belle di quella che fu forse l'annata musicalmente più interlocutoria di sempre, in Italia e a livello internazionale.

Da bambino mi hai fatto impazzire di gioia e ancora oggi quella traccia non si è attenuata neanche un po'

Quanti ricordi. Erano gli anni 78 - 80 quando Venivo spesso in ufficio in Galleria del corso, 5 a Milano. Da quì nacque la mia passione per i Synth e per la musica. Non ho mai potuto perchè non avevo le possibilità di avere macchine adeguate per registrare qualche brano che mi chiese Federico. Poi le vicessitudini della vita e per vivere mi spostai agli studi ed sul lavoro. Ma naturalmente non abbandonai mai la mia musica e continuai a studiare e con la paghetta del lavoro con mio padre acquistai gradualmente varie apparecchiature. Ricordo ancora quando Federico dopo le mie visite nei vari uffici, compresi quelli di Ricordi, che Federico chiamava spesso mia madre anche perchè lasciai il mio numero di casa e Federico parlando con mia Madre disse" C'è Mycol? è venuto a cercarmi in Ufficio, Michele quà e Michele là" Mia madre mi aggiornò su queste telefonate ed io andai a trovare Federico e gli mostrai delle mie foto in TV a Telecity dove suonavo il Pianoforte con l'orchestra. Ma anche allora ero impossibilitato a registrare qualcosa di importante in quanto non avevo ancora attrezzature adeguate, gli consegnai anche una cassetta nella quale erano incise delle bozze, ma non erano soddisfacenti infatti lui mi disse che non andavano bene. E allora mi demoralizzai un pò. Riuscì poi ad entrare in Yamaha Musica Italia in qualità di Dimostratore, come anche in Roland ed a seguire in tante altre case di produzione Synthesizers. Nel frattempo persi mia madre aveva solo 58 anni, a seguire qualche piccolo problema familiare, ma di positivo c'è la mia bimba Barbara che vedo quando possibile, poi persi anche mio padre qualche anno dopo. E così il tempo volava via come non sò che. Ma non abbandonai mai la mia musica la quale mi tirò sù da queste vicende di vita, infatti devo tutto alla mia musica se sono ancora quì oggi, ed a Federico che mi fece scoprire il meraviglioso Moog con le sue meravigliose melodie. Mentre ora che sono riuscito ad avere delle meravigliose tecnologie futuristiche e innovative, sono impossibilitato per la realizzazione di nuovi brani per la mancanza di una location che mi permetta di vivere e creare il mio Studio di Registrazione. Ma non mi fermerò mai cercherò di andare avanti sino in fondo perchè la passione per la musica e queste macchine è molta, e attualmente mi sento pronto per la realizzazione di nuovi progetti artistici con dei brani innovativi, dei quali ho delle bozze che dovrei riprendere. I brani sono oltre 300 con suoni e stili futuristici e innovativi. Questa è in sintesi la storia della mia vita. Sento che devo farcela e lotterò per far si che riesca a raggiungere questa meta e sogno che attendo da anni. Vorrei che la vita fosse più semplice e che una scia di luce venga verso di me. Grazie Federico per avermi trasmesso questa meravigliosa passione.

Many memories. It was the years 78-80 when I often came to the office in the Galleria del corso, 5 in Milan. My passion for synths and music was born from here. I never could because I didn't have the possibility of having adequate machines to record some song that Federico asked me. Then the vicissitudes of life and to live I moved to studies and work. But of course I never gave up my music and continued to study and gradually bought equipment with my father's pocket money. I still remember when Federico, after my visits to the various offices, including those of Ricordi, whom Federico often called my mother also because I left my home number and Federico, talking to my mother, said "Is there Mycol? He came to look for me in the Office , Michele quà and Michele là "My mother updated me on these phone calls and I went to see Federico and showed him my photos on TV in Telecity where I played the Piano with the orchestra. But even then I was unable to record something important because I still didn't have adequate equipment, I also gave him a cassette in which drafts were engraved, but they were not satisfactory, in fact he told me they were not going well. And then I became a little demoralized. He then managed to join Yamaha Musica Italia as a Demonstrator, as well as in Roland and to follow in many other Synthesizers production houses. Meanwhile lost my mother was only 58 years old, following some small family problems, but positive is my little girl Barbara whom I see whenever possible, then I also lost my father a few years later. And so time flew away as I know not that. But I never abandoned my music which pulled me from these life events, in fact I owe everything to my music if I am still here today, and to Federico who made me discover the wonderful Moog with its wonderful melodies. While now that I have managed to have some wonderful futuristic and innovative technologies, I am unable to make new tracks due to the lack of a location that allows me to live and create my Recording Studio. But I will never stop trying to go on until the end because the passion for music and these machines is a lot, and currently I feel ready for the realization of new artistic projects with innovative songs, of which I have some drafts that I should resume. The songs are over 300 with futuristic and innovative sounds and styles. This is a summary of my life story. I feel that I have to make it and I will fight to make it reach this goal and dream that I have been waiting for for years. I wish life were simpler and a trail of light would come towards me. Thanks Federico for sending me this wonderful passion.
