The best thing to do in the future is to shoot them down over water before they reach airspace over land. That way if a nuclear bomb is onboard it can detonate over the ocean and avoid harm to humans. But then we can't eat fish anymore. It would wipe out that food source. (I think it had some type of hardware that showed where our nukes are and/or most of our soldiers at any given time. Kind of like a thermal set up). If they flew jets ir drones or anything else, they’d be very very risky and potentially cause a war. With the balloon they can just say “oh it was for weather, we can’t control where it goes”. The saddest part about this is, they allowed it to take its entire course across this whole country and then decided to pop it when it was clear of our nation. Probably not realizing that its mission was pretty much over and it's scanned and saw everything it needed to see and sent video transmission back to China to wear popping it did absolutely nothing to disrupt what China wanted to accomplish. But now they can say they have legal grounds to retaliate. Yeah they don't want to do that. I recommend, no matter how much you want that product, find the product that are not made in China. I'd like to know if they can identify the instructions given to the balloon for its navigation. This would indicate whether or not it was purposely operating over our sensitive airspace which is quite dangerous. I think we have every justification to be skeptical of their intentions.

    A missile?
They could have sent something small through it so that it would slowly lose altitude and monitor it so it would land in a field somewhere.
The only reason I can imagine that they didn't want to shoot it down sooner would be because they didn't know what was in it that might harm the land or people.
But still there were many opportunities to shoot it down over uninhabited areas.

No, they have tried to do that woth balloons decades ago. Look it up, there are youtube videos. I think they shot a balloon like 10000 times with guns and it barely went down, its extremely unpredictable to just shoot it and hope it comes down at any given rate. Its better to drop it like a rock instantly
