@@iPadForArchitecture I came into this profession with AutoCAD (on DOS), an avid fan of yellow tracing paper & fountain pens to ideate I moved into Sketchup when they were @Last, then ebbed and flowed with market using different software applications that maintained a hand-rendered feel. (Shameless plug for Informatix’s Piranesi).
Right now my design phase is to keep ideas as loose as possible with Concepts, Procreate, Morpholio & Sketchup for iPad before refining it in Revit, and final Render in Lumion or Twinmotion.

@@iPadForArchitecture I'm an electrical engineer that does outdoor experiments with radars, ships, aircraft, etc. I've been using Sketchup for over 10 years to design my equipment setup and then to plan the experiment with the scientists and other engineers/technicians. Very different from what you're doing, but I'm always looking for related tools. You did a great job of showing how Sketchup for iPad has really improved (although I would not be able to use cloud for storage). Of course I also use Sketchup at home for all of my home projects (redesigning deck, upgrading kitchen, etc), so it was cool to see the more artistic tools that you used. Thanks for sharing your work.

All this computer stuff seems complicated. I mean really - why "sketch" on a computer? This does not convince me.
Sorry, not "hating" just think it's better to work by hand, where you are informing / training your mind and hand about scale.
I do use sketchup, but not for basic design, just 3d views.
Sketchup used to be great with entourage objects inside the program, now it's all "extra" stuff you have to purchase. Typical software / hardware corporation economics.

    • @iPadForArchitecture

I think that’s totally valid. We’ve had 10,000…20,000?…years of human evolution thinking and designing with a stick or pencil in hand. We lose a lot when we limit our imaginations to using a keyboard and mouse
