    Plumb Interesting! I imagine that "Run Cloth" was the start of "Flash Paper".
    It was very informative, to see how our ancestors dressed, and how some of their pouches were made and used, & what went into those pouches & what not. (You are the only outdoorsman, that I've seen, twisting small cordage, since John Plant, of Primitive Technology; several years ago taught us...the Aborigines way.)
    I'm tickled someone else does it as well ! This is my first time, watching a full video of yours. I've watched several of the tech tips, but not full vids.
    Shawn Kelly, of Corporal's Corner sent me. That feller is a great instructor and woodsman and he speaks highly of you!
    Bill, of Tn. 🇺🇸

      +swampassoutfitters You're dumber than a headless rattlesnake. Crawl back under your rock. Or more likely, back into your parent's basement. You're a useless troll, or you wouldn't even be on here.

      J Ritter you are absolutely right! Dave is a fraud, who lied about his background to get on the show, that's why he was kicked from it because they found out he was a fake, just a stupid man living off his fathers land.

      Doomsday Lone Wolf Notice how he used to make fun of Cody's long hair now he claims he always wore it long back when he was into the reenactment crap I can't believe how many fan boys think he invented the five Cs either!

      Thomas, You can't learn it all in a month. Besides that is just one season of the 4. You have to spend the time in the woods and then watch his videos . Then you have to do it and practice it, not just watch how it is done.

    I wish I could find my old kit ,from my younger days , to show my son and grandson. My younger brother has the old bolt 22 s,l,lr, tube fed rifle that I carried as a child . My carbide lights are all gone , night light and wheat light both are gone . The old tobacco tins and bigger cans ,sack , I think I know where my double bit axe is

    Fun vid, I’m an historic trekker and have a similar kit, the small market wallet in the belt was a good idea.
    I was confused as to why you would make the powder cloth??? You got a fire without wasting powder just a few min before 😳

    One night in the woods like that and I would be covered from head to toe with chigger and tick bites. What did they do in the 1700's to prevent bites or did they just suffer the bites.

      ATGE, I believe in the 18th century, ticks were just a nuisance and malaria wasn't carried by mosquitos, in the Eastern Woodlands.

    Still looking for how people would camp out in the old west days, like on a bedroll, but all I keep running into are these tents and such. If I go camping I want to be mobile and explore my area. Not setting up a command post with paper thin walls to keep the bugs and snakes at bay.

    • @stevebuckskinner5482
      @stevebuckskinner5482 8 років тому +2

      Hi Troy
      I do early 19th century reenactment based on the fur trapping era. I think you might find that the accoutrements and techniques are very similar right up through the old west as far as survival out in the wild. A few things may have changed such as using matches instead of flint & steel depending on how long they were going to be out in the wild. Some of the bed rolls that you might see in some of the Western movies were they're pretty much just had canvas really wouldn't cut it as far as keeping warm. A good wool blanket along with that canvas drop cloth would have gone a long way. As far as fire goes I think they still used things like a magnifying glass, flint and steel and other well known tools for starting fires. I hope that helps. God bless

    I don't see any response from Dave to his loyal subjects here... I sat at the picnic table next to Dave's table at a weekend retreat and he never even said Hi to anyone, he just stayed w/ his group till it was time for him to speak & he loves to speak.. I know I don't rate, but come on, it can't all be about the money -- or can it ? I paid $250 to be there, a simple "Hi" would be nice....

    • @debosquatch
      @debosquatch 5 років тому

      I've had Dave respond to some of my comments, that were questions based on video topics. he's got half million subs. unfortunately someone will always feel missed or ignored. timing seems to be big factor in getting an answer. when you saw him did you say hi ? just a guess but a humble man may not think everyone wants his attention.

    dave, love the videos, but a lot do not apply to the south west. i live in new mexico and arizona, how bout some informative videos for out here to help folks with no experience . i am like you a vet with survival training but others in the south west could use the knowledge and help. sorry lundeen does not cut it never did
    thanks , kodta

    • @awaywardson_5220
      @awaywardson_5220 6 років тому

      kodta2 stay near water. I lived out west outside of Tucson and water was up in springs on Mt lemmon but you need a cold chisel and hammer to bust the bolts off a well cap. Also you need several hundred feet of line so you can drop your two inch PVC well bucket down there. It has a one way flapper so you can fetch water. I drank out of water tanks with my water filter. Pellet riflenwill help you take doves. I don't eat the non kosher stuff. If you have no dietary restriction then you'll have, javelina, Rattlers, pack rats, rabbits, and Jack rabbits. In August the cactus tunas are ripening and I ate loads of those.on mount lemmon there's raspberries growing on the east mountain. They're ready in August. The other mountains south are full of wildlife

    And, you're seriously cracking me up with all of this hostile Indian bullshit. You should read a few books about western expansion, and Native Americans. There were certainly problems, but 95% of the time Indians didn't bother mountain men at all. If they wanted to, believe me, the skill of 12 year old Native American far eclipsed that of even the most seasoned Mountain Man.
