For foreigners, all Turkish cities whose people are not conservative are good.
I am a Dane who has lived and worked in Turkey. I absolutely love the place and vist Turkey at least once a year. And I totally agree that Izmir is an amazing place. I have been on the road for more than 30 years and this is one of the top 10 cities worldwide, if I should chose a permanent place to live.
I liked that you had positive experiences in Turkey, but unfortunately the situation in the country is extremely bad right now.

@@Gossuarit There are many better universities in Istanbul but cost of living there is too expensive for a student. That's why Izmir is better than Istanbul to study. But imo best city to study in Turkey is Eskişehir(you can google it). Very small city but 20% of its population is student. It's very cheap city which is great for a student. It's located in Western Anatolia which is really close to Izmir and Ankara(the capital of Turkey) to visit there. And you can travel to Istanbul from Eskişehir by train for just 3 hours.
I loved my time in Izmir in 2015 😊 a very beautiful city

Heartily want to visit and live in Izmir, a lovely peaceful city with amazing weather and local community. Izmir "çok güzel bir şehir." Additionally, in Izmir, living is cheaper than in Istanbul, so why bother about high rent or expensive food.

A Turk from İzmir here. I think geographically İzmir region or Ege region is the best region in the world, even better than İstanbul and Bosphorus. Despite the fact, people who came here from the eastern and southeastern regions (Same case with İstanbul and Bursa) made this city absolutely overcrowded. For example, western Turks have an IQ avarege of 97-100 and southeastern Turkey has an IQ average of 85-87. The biggest problem of Turkey is migration which destroyed the beauty of my favorite cities İzmir, Bursa and İstanbul. As you can understand, Turkey is really diverse. For example, millions of people who were born in a single eastern city now all lives in İstanbul and İzmir...
