Ellie can tell he's been lying to her for years, that's why she's so moody. She's slowing realizing he's not honest with her, and it's hurting their relationship.
The only real excuse for him right after the events in the hospital was that he didn't want to cause her pain. He did what most loving parents would do in such case; saving their kids from the pain and suffering, making them think that "nothing happened". But after few years passed... yes, it was cowardice then. Very human thing.
@@skeezaworkan NOPE. This is a factually incorrect understanding of the first game. He did it for himself, not for Ellie. Joel explains it in his final lines. You have to find something to keep fighting for, otherwise why keep living? Joel has put Sarah onto Ellie, but Sarah isn't Ellie and Ellie isn't Sarah. She's not Joel's daughter or his to decide for.
@@mattb7479 Yes, he saved her for himself, that's correct. But the lying part, while also motivated by that, was that parent instinct. You never want your child to feel guilty of the wrong things you did, because you're afraid that would destroy them. But I'm not denying he was selfish in that. I just understand why any dad would lie initially.
This was a fun watch! I would like to suggest a couple tips that helped me through my playthrough if you don't mind 1. A lot of times when I find myself almost getting caught, if the enemy is close enough you can sometimes sprint real fast and grab them to maintain your "stealth." 2. To piggy back off the first tip, I loved using the grab feature and walking with them for a bit before taking them out. This helps me pull them behind cover so i dont get caught doing the really long kill animation. You can also used enemies grabbed as cover if you've been caught (the other enemies may shoot or attack the person you are grabbing) Last tip that really helped me was when you get caught and all the enemies start attacking you, if you shoot them just once, most of the time this stuns them and you are free to run up and melee them. Just like you would with a bottle/brick. This saved me a ton of ammo for later fights in the game. It only gets harder from here :'D Anyway loved the video! keep up the good work.
I agree with you on Joel. It's truly tragic the way all of these things collided to create such a mess. Masterful story crafting from Naughty Dog, unwrapping to show you the emotional layers beneath Joel's decision at the end of Part I.
I like your way of analysing things. This game is all but black and white and really needs some thought. I somehow understand why some people think of it "controversial". But for those heroes are good and bad people are bad. I gotta say that first encounter with the dogs went well!
Yea, I told you'll eventually understand more of Joels actions, why he got killed etc. Abby is really NOT the bad guy! I love that character by the way and I'm looking forward to the new upcoming season of The Last of Us.
@@ChristopherAzzato I completely respect your opinion. I get why Joel did what he did. He wanted to protect Ellie because if she knew what he did, she would be extremely hurt. She wanted to have purpose and to save lives. I like when she tells him she had so many questions for the Fireflies and then proceeds to ask, "Why did you pull me out of there while I was still unconscious?" In my opinion, this would have been the perfect moment to confess. She wouldn't have been able to ask those questions because the fireflies didn't even give her a chance to come out of consciousness before putting her under the knife. She didn't know the extent of what was going to happen. I truly believe that Ellie knows that Joel is lying; however, she chooses to ignore that and believe him because it would be too painful. Ellie sees what is going on. She isn't stupid. That should have been the time to confess (or at least after getting to a safe place first). That's why I think he was a bit of a coward in that moment specifically. His whole demeanor changed.
Why? He IS being a coward by hiding the truth from her. He's protecting himself, not her. It's like... textbook cowardice. Not even sure what you could argue?
I think Joel is hoping to go to his grave with this. If you've ever done something that you know will destroy your relationship with the person you care for the most in this world, yah you will be absolutely terrified to let them know the truth. The trauma of losing his own daughter made him this way. He is still fighting to not lose another one.
@vejinta I totally get this side for sure... I almost wonder if Ellie would have eventually understood and respected him if he told her the truth though. I almost feel like the encounter in this part was a test from Ellie to see if Joel would finally be honest. Personally, I've always made it my mission to be honest with my kiddo and admit when I'm wrong, because I think that develops more trust within a relationship. Sometimes the truth hurts. Being honest, grows trust and respect imo.

It's kinda fun seeing someone playing this game. Slowly realizing that the "hero" story may not be as black and white as games usually are. 🙂
14:21 that soopa slick stealth 😎
Secret agent Ellie.
Ive played through this game 9 times and I've never seen that office in the garage at 38:20 😂
@@flacohernandez4380why you worried? WTF
And we’re back, baby!
Really appreciate the quick uploads.
Heh, trading card if you walk behind the children's play house
🤦♀
Joel the Gaslighter 😂
i like that you call him a coward because he is, people like to make excuses for him like "she's a child, she doesn't know what's best for her"

Great job on the video
Going after Nora is one of my fav parts of this game!
I never saw someone sneak past the first dog encounter on the first try 🤯
Thank you for noticing... The second encounter didn't go as well! haha I had to cut out like 30 minutes of deaths. 🤣
Well I see you loved 🥰 Hillcrest don’t you just love 🥰 the dogs 🐕 and wlf ha ha .sorry it’s not Tommy after all that great episode dude
We’re gonna need a counter on screen for the amount of times you say oh my god 😂
Can’t wait for the next one!
I wonder if I say that more times than "bitch"? 🤔
