Bill's Standards have become an accepted part of the mandolin repertoire. Dawg has created an endless trove of musical gems and jewels. "Dawg's Rag " is just another one of those.
Been a Darol Anger fan for years now. Got to actually meet him twice. Love how he breaks a smile when he knows he's in the pocket, which is frequently. So great to see this!
This superbly recorded video is a beautiful rendition of Dawg’s Rag that was on David Grisman’s circa 1977 album with young long-haired Darol Anger on fiddle. I bought the album after seeing Grisman at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland CA when the quintet (two mandolins, fiddle, guitar, bass) was the opening act for headliner singer Phoebe Snow. Fast forward to Darol Anger at the Twisted Oak Winery in Vallecitos CA about 2019. Looking forward to catching him in California, I hope, in the not too distant future.
I was a huge fan of the David Grisman Quintet back when their music was brand new. They inspired me to play Bluegrass, and I’ll forever be indebted. Still gigging today in my 60s and loving it. Cheers!
Guys. I dont say to musicians online often. Because most of them aint very good. But im here to tell yall that was fucking excellent. Im proud of all of you. Yall should be proud of yourselves. Thx for sharing
Saw DGQ 1977 or so in San Luis Obispo. My favorite instrumental album of all time! Then saw Darol in Paonia, Colorado a few decades later. These four are stellar! This is not easy music to play at all! Very cool indeed! Love it.
Oh wow, this was/is awesome. I have been having many enlightening experiences/epiphanies lately and one of them is THIS type of music seems to resonate in my SOUL. I seriously need to learn how to play. No wonder my fingers were always moving around so much while listening to tunes all my life. WW. Thanks for posting this. I am elated. omglol

Good for you, keep it going!
When I first heard the album The David Grisman Quintet, it changed everything about the way I viewed music and songwriting.
This might be the best video on the whole UA-cams.
I sure do miss the David Grisman Quintet from 1980
Saw DGQ twice in Vancouver in early 80s. Amazing times! Amazing 🎶
