I came here from a comment you made on Threads, saw the running time on the video and almost bugged off, but so glad I did not. This was gold. Excellent interviews.

@@JeffersonDonald that is such a lovely comment! Thank you so much! Could you share this with people? 😂 and also, there’s always that x2 playback speed. Barely half an hour that way. 😉

I am enjoying your series. This episode is excellent. I highly recommend reading the original collections of Alex Raymond work. The artwork is incredibly cinematic. It will be interesting to see how a future version of Flash Gordon will be able to capture the feel of the original comic pages.

@@bholmes1035 I only started looking at Raymond’s artwork when I started researching these topics a few weeks ago and honestly I wholly understand why people are so enthusiastic about him. It’s so striking. I definitely want to get some of the original collections or a book on Raymond. Beautiful artwork and seems to be so advanced for 1934.

@@everyscififilm The 1979 Filmation Saturday morning cartoon series captures to Raymond's style well (or as well as can be expected given the limited animation style of Filmation). You can tell that the artists who worked on it had respect for the source material.

@@bholmes1035 I’ve just had a look and you’re right. There are obviously limitations! It would be amazing to see something animated with a bigger budget and scale.

@@everyscififilm I was lucky to grow up in Ontario, Canada in the 1970s. We had a public television personality, Elwy Yost, who hosted a couple of shows about classic movies: Magic Shadows and Saturday Night at the Movies. He has some amazing interviews of old Hollywood actors, directors and writers, including a great Buster Crabbe interview about Flash Gordon. Elwy Yost helped introduce new generations to some of the great science fiction movies that you have been discussing. His interview with Crabbe is somewhere on UA-cam.

Thank you so much! I've not heard/read about George Lucas and his influences beyond Kurosawa so it was interesting to learn more.
