I never actually ever done a “track day” myself, I only raced. So practice sessions and qualify would be the closest thing I’ve ever done to a track day. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting this Troy on a few occasions (in the nineties). Never actually raced against him. However I did spend two years racing against our other would champion with the same first name (Bayliss) and man he was destined even when he won the Australian 250 production series! He was always near or at the front. Another top bloke on and off the track... 👍😎🇦🇺

Raced against (never nearly as good) 3 guys who went on to be World Champions. This Troy wasn’t one of them ( however he is just a great guy). The other Troy (Bayliss), another great guy who I spent two seasons chasing before he got his break in the “big league”. Maybe it’s something in the water however for a country with a population less than 10% of the USA is amazing with all the two wheeled champions to come from.

Our boys were starting to tankslap trying to up the pace. Lap after lap 2wheel drifts until he was touching the kerb, on the sweeper where i was,..at speeds no-one on Monday wud believe. I inspected the sweeper after the meeting. The rubber was laid dark, long, and nearly perfectly overlaid. Both tyres. Gud memories I cud go on forever mate Cheers

Unfortunately Assen did not grant us a date for next year, we will try again for 2022. To answer your last question the M RR was equipped with Pirelli Diablo slicks.

Ha I was thinking the opposite...Dropping the gears down so hard going into corners that the back end is locking up...and then short shifting half way round seems strange to me...and definitely not what I'd call smooth. Still what would I know :(
It doesn't go away. You get rusty and you lose your balance and confidence for a little while, but once your muscles remember what they're doing, you can start racing like normal years later. This is the reason why they say it becomes a part of who you are. You become part of the machine.
3rd gear power wheelie huh..when I had a 99R1 it would do that in 2nd gear maybe once a month on a nice cool night and that bike was viscous fast lmfao would love to ride a modern day liter bike. we used to dream what 200hp felt like back in the early 2000's lol
Noice ... looked like a blast through the slow group. So on the MRR to back it in ... you need to disable ABS for the rear ... or can you disable both?
Is it just me or does he hardly sit in the middle all the way back? It seems as though in between two lefts he is leaving is ass hanging of on the left on the straight. So as to not make any unnescasary movements i suppose. Any insights anybody?
@GS-gl5gk correct, ideally one should only move when essential. Less movement, less fatigue, and more stability thus grip. Only really long straights are really worth it going to the middle before pre-positioning for the next braking marker.

either one of them (Bayliss / Corser). Several years ago Troy Bayliss was lapping the local circuit here (Barbagallo, Western Australia) within a couple of seconds of lap record pace... on a standard Ducati 1098... with a pillion on board...

Just brake hard enough while being in a low gear and the rear will start coming round all on it's own.

Old habits for sure, rev matching to maximise stability. These day the blippers are so good it is not necessary anymore.
