This was spot on hJune! I remember back in the day you had to be really lucky to find some of the good stuff, searching for other players who had an AK, making plans to catch them off guard or raid them for it whenever that was possible. And when you made a play, basically the whole server would be chasing you for it. It was a blast and every wipe felt unique and different. That was what I liked as well about Rust.

I agree but I would add that something needs to be done so players of same level are in the same area. I suggested many times to have nexus being T0 island, T1 island, T2 etc... I am 50, I've been playing this game forever. I will never be good at PvP, but I love it... However if I can be on a tiered island, I may encounter more people at my level and have more fun. At the moment I am the bitch of almost everybody. And different servers don't change that. The only option would be to play in a zerg, but at 50 hearing kids scream in discord is not really my thing... So in the end I play PvE with bots and raidable bases, this will never as good as real human interactions.

@@AlexDuboisNah man. That woudn’t be rust. And as he said, as long as you have a baseline level. The game doesn’t reward mechanical aim as much anymore in comparison to just playing smart. You barely need to be able to aim at all anymore. I want some skill put back into the game. Mixing player skill is part of what makes Rust so compelling, it creates storylines for everyone. You dominate one team and then meet the mystical ak team that’s barely in you’re area.

Regarding trading, I played on some servers where trading via /trade was a plugin. Three major shops on the map were competing against each other, bidding for resources from players in the wilderness, having fun in chat, trying to undercut each other, and raiding each other over the price of Garage Doors. This was after a force wipe, so there was a ton of demand and scrap/fun to be had. Not sure what could be done on the progression side to stimulate these types of interactions organically over regular wipes, and not just force wipes. Still, it was a ton of fun, and trading is something that should be a bigger part of the game.

No T2 in the first 3-5h
Map should be covered in Fog ( like in Rise of Kingdoms or Boom beach)
Monuments should function different on 500 pop server. So that ur local mining outpost does not give u 500 scrap an hour. It should make better monuments more worth it going to.
That’s why the T2 tech tree should be reduced and some items should only be found in the world.
The T3 should have the old blueprint gamble ( only including good items) no car items or else.

I agree with all in the video. I've stopped playing Rust because of work and because it is too difficult to play solo; being offlined because you can't play 24/7 is frustrating and lead to to quit the game forever. Furthermore, I guess developers have started to address the game to big groups and not to solo/small group experience.

Started my RUST journey end of XP start of BP system back in 2016/7. It was one of the first games I ever bought for PC and fell in love with it ever since racked up around 13k hours. My love for the game is defiantly still there I just feel like over the recent past few months it has been a lot harder to enjoy the game. I miss being boots on the ground running around fighting for loot when player pvp was at its best. Now it feels like everyone just farms up in their own little square on the map to offline or just afks until something happens near the comfort of their base. The risk and reward factor defo needs to be adjusted.
I would hate for rust to stay in its current state as it feels like an afk simulator :/
I wish the best for the game and for some sort of positive change to happen.
Honestly, just bring back BP System or make tech tree adjustments
Get rid of aim cone (bloom) and/or change the pattern again
    limit windmills
lower timer on crates at rig/cargo/chinook
get rid of bag limit so people actually roam
adjust loot at all the older monuments so they are up to date with the newer ones such as arctic
team UI changes so there are some risk to having huge numbers such as being able to get ghosted

I 100% agree with the monument part. I think it would be interesting if certain monuments were disabled until certain conditions, or even time based conditions, existed. I.e oil rig/launch site have a radiation zone that even hazmats can't protect from that lasts for 3 or 4 days after wipe (any of the tier 4 or 3 zones), and cargo won't spawn until 72 hours after wipe.
I also agree with the tech tree stuff, make base and utilitarian stuff tech tree, but explosives, meds, armor, and guns/ ammo aren't able to be tech tree'd. Furthermore, expand tier 1 and tier 2, and push tier 3 to a harder to reach place. Add more tier 1 guns and finally add tier 2 raiding utility. I've been saying since 2019 to my friends that I wished we had tier 2 raiding things to bridge the gap between tier 1 and 3. If you could spread out the tiers to last longer, you could also work around people not having access to higher tier stuff for longer.
Honestly, prim is one of the funnest stages of the game, and it lasts less than 30 minutes on fresh wipe on vanilla servers now and it's just stale AF. I think it would be cool if people were locked to prim for 1 to 2 days at least after wipe, and then tier 2 kind of lasted from day 2 to 5, and then tier 3 could take over from there.
Obviously this would be different server to server due to the population differences, like I enjoy trio and it would be different there than on a clan accessible server, but regardless I would like to see these kinds of changes one day.
They could also tie into the nexus system, and keep the "starting island" prim with only up to tier 2 monuments, and to get to tier 3 and 4 you would need to go to the next island, but there would be a decent price to get there, and it wouldn't be easy to get back. I dunno, just thinking out loud here now but those are my thoughts.

something i thought about a week ago is like it doesnt feel like a real survival game, eventually when you put hours into this game your wipe will be checking the map see were oil rig is get a spot near it , do oil rig as fast as possible get your AK and shit on players who are less efficient with there time getting your tier 3 as fast as possible then get your boom and raid everyone. i would like to see a kind of system that the first day of a weekly wipe will be prim so guns and boom cant be found ( monthly's maybe first 3 days of wipe ) and the only way to upgrade your simple bow is to get recourses to craft your crossbow or compound bow and nailgun and make it a little harder to craft the first day, also the map should be black and when you explore it getting unlocked so you never know exactly were monuments are untill you been there and its getting vissible on map. maybe even sulfer should not be added the first day so basicly , day 1 is only tier 1 items and no sulfer no hqm , day 2 you are able to craft tier 2 and find little bits of sulfer and hqm to slowly craft weapons this also unlocks tier 2 items from monuments and day 3 you are able to craft tier 3 and you are able to find more sulfer and hqm and tier 3 monuments can give tier 3 items. i think especially with weeklys this mean people at least stay till day 4 and then the real fun begins so they will stay till end of wipe because they have 3 days left to prepare and raid everyone. this also means time presure last days of wipe you have to act now and raid that clan because tomorrow will be wipe day again so you have to do an online, in stead of sitting on 30 rockets on wipe day waiting for the perfect moment to raid someone

I have about 8k hours and stopped playing over a year ago now. Team UI is one of the best suggestions you could ever make. Clans only benefit from this i feel like it used to be so fun without it and created lots of cool scenarios and gives the smaller groups a better chance in pvp since they don't have to worry so much about who they are shooting at but the large outnumbering groups do. It basically forces you to communicate and makes situations more intense.

I 100% agree with you. I feel like if they added something completely different to give people a reason to go outside, people wouldn't just hit a few barrels and go back to their base. They could potentially add a new tier of rockets that require new materials entirely, like a geode based progression. Same goes for ammo/gear. Adjust the damages of the current walls and explosions, add new building materials (not just skins), something over hqm and do the stat squash at the same time.

Not gonna lie, I've been playing Rust since legacy. I've seen Rust go through all these different changes over the years. For me, I've 'quit' Rust maybe 3-5 times but always came back to the game because I've always enjoyed it. I was never really into the the pvp nature of the game and what not. However like you said.. I've always really enjoyed the variety ever wipe offered and the social interactions the game had. Now a days it feels like the community isn't at all like it used to be. No one talks to each other, people don't engage with each other without being toxic or immediately just killing you. This is always why I loved the the XP system because it offered WAY more interactions with people. You could craft an axe and gift it to a naked to farm and by him hitting a tree you would gain XP. It was so much fun. I just feel like the current system of rust progression now a days feels mundane and repetitive. That's why I got bored of it and do content atm, isn't revolving around playing an actual wipe. Spawn on beach > farm > build > farm > build > pvp > raid or get offlined or quit the wipe... repeat.

I agree with making tech tree harder. The cost of item research should be current values when researching a physical item at research table but then be 3-4X times more scrap to tech tree without having the item. Force people to go out and find the items they need. Also Flip L300 with AK on loot tables and tech tree. The L300 should be the tier-3 craft-able rifle for cost of rifle-body+4springs and 40HQM and the AK should be the military weapon only found in locked crates. The l300 needs to be used more and making it the craft gun and making it more affordable than AK will incentives people to run with l300's. The mp5 needs to be stronger, it needs a tighter aim-cone, more range and more damage so people want to use it over a Thompson.

They took a look at the numbers and just toned it down a lot, so everyone was on the same level.

These higher tier items could still be found and researched, but not crafted. This way teams would choose whether to risk the high tier item by using it to progress more quickly, sell it for a high price, or research it to guarantee that they're able to craft the gun when tier 3 becomes open to crafting.

The focus on groups has been very detrimental, especially in a tough game - cos people group and cheat +++ and even a duo has so much advantage over a solo, never mind dozens grouped together.
As a solo i very much needed original compound bow and like silencer - thank you very much! But yes, the silenced bolty constant roof players are too common, and bad.
And i need to be able to tech tree in current times :( though i preferred before.
Get rid of teams (green dot) entirely or limit to 3?
But somehow they have to decrease offlines, it makes the game miserable and again I think its the constant support of teams +
(A solo doing an offline isnt so bad, sometimes necessary.)

We've had essentially the same 10 or so core monuments, and i'd really like to see new ones made. At the start of wipe, each map should have a randomized pick of 3 green, 3 blue, and 2 red card monuments, with at least 6 new options. I want to see a greater emphasis on red card monuments. Launch site puzzle is daunting and time-consuming, and the few elite crates at the top are not worth it when something like oil or mil tuns exists. We've also had the exact same water treatment for at least the past 6 years, same with airfieldd. in my opinion, puzzles and boots-on-the-ground monuments accessible to anyone with more than 10 rad protection were what made Rust a fun game. There was always PVP at the puzzles, and you used to have to build next to a "recycler" monument. These have largely been replaced by tunnels, which are owned by large groups with aks that rocket PvP constantly because you can get like 2500 scrap in an hour or so. I think the above-ground trains are a good addition, but the tunnels should be removed. Transportation should include for sure: horses, minicopter, scrap heli, RHIB, above ground train and small boat. I'm not particularly bullish or bearish on cars and submarines, cars are cool, but dealing with a 4 man in an almost indestructable camper is definitely not my thing. Attack Heli is cool but it's so out of place in the game that it should be removed. Tunnels need to go.

They should bring back fog of war from back in the days when the map had to be crafted before you could press the map hotkey. The seed needs to be encrypted and the map has to be hidden until you explored that certain area, so you dont know all the monument locations before you join in. You could fly around with the mini to catograph the map, and you could trade your knowledge where certain monuments are to other players, like a map in a vending machine.

Good points raised mate. Agree. I feel that guns are too easy to get…. A lot of people actually want to be prim locked a little longer. Extending that early game slightly by making minor tweaks, I think would help greatly. Like removing certain items from tech tree - guns, explosives, rocket etc. Limit scrap slightly. And as you mentioned too, access to high tier monuments shouldn’t be possible so early into wipe. 30 minutes and running rig is crazy. If you want more people and PVP in rad towns, limiting access to high tier monuments would help that hugely. Maybe those monuments don’t spawn until second day of wipe or the cards to run the monuments are harder to get. Also you shouldn’t be able to just buy cards, meaning you have to go to where they spawn to find one.

i have been playing rust since January, 2021, and i can say that i agree. When i started playing rust, the game was still in the stage of when you had o actually go out and fight for loot. And not just loot but the game didn't have so many clans and monuments for them to control, which made for a great story between groups because there wasn't that one group with 12 people offline raiding a duo. I remember before the addition of large group sizes on almost every server, tons of high tier monuments, and recoil change, every wipe had something different because there were so many rivalries and stories between everyone. I also agree with the fact of progression; the game is to easy right now, and its not fun. You get on a server, find a gun easily or just tech tree it, then you go and have shit rng while another kid with 2 hours beams you, and then you get offlined that night. They need to add more early wipe items, whether its low tier monuments, new early stage weapons, new strategies that arent one sided for clans. Its hard to believe that rust has thrown themselves in this hole within the last year and a half.

Everyone remembers being prim-locked all wipe "back in the day" and struggling to even piece together the scrap to build a T2, let alone learn anything off it. I think the combination of players getting better from experience as time goes on, plus the continuous power inflation and ease of tasks has added up to a game that's very short. It used to be shocking to see players with T2 weapons on day 1, and now getting AK on the first day is something a solo can very easily accomplish.
The population multiplier is one issue, but also we just need some straight up nerfs to loot/scrap gains. Or rather make stuff more expensive. It's just trivially-easy now to bang out the necessities by day 1 or 2 and be right at end game. This is supposed to take approximately a week for a good player, or so I thought when looking at wipe schedules. Now the server domination is basically decided by day 3 or so.

Mostly good points. I slightly disagree with the thought that a change needs to "change the way they play the game". I don't think it needs a deep fundamental shakeup but slow down progression somehow.
I had the thought of time gating work benches, can't get tier 2 until maybe 3rd day of wipe, tier 3 maybe 5th (depending on length of wipe schedule)
This will nerf raiding, nerf offlineing and keep people on the server living there longer instead of just server hoping.
It does feel that most updates are for zergs lately and that sucks. Something to nerf them just raiding everyone off the server is needed. I think these servers are meant to be "lived" on for weeks but after a few days we get offline. No matter the base design.

I also think that facepunch has been focussing on getting the skillgap closer. what i mean is, good players were always dominating and people that are new had a very small chance on winning from better players. What we've seen in the last couple years is updates towards a smaller skillgap (think of: recoil update, techtree, MLRS, turrets, etc.) all these updates makes players play the game safe and with less skill. this gives new players the space to not spend that much time learning the game but instead just use the meta strats out there (just using techtree, placing turrets farming and making a base isnt hard at all, with the buffed spray paterns you can just camp and easily hold anything) and now you still 'win'. this made it for 'better' players boring since you have no chance of winning in some scenario's, were it used to be winnable its now less likely because of the insane updates towards 'worst' players.... thats whats happening i feel like

I would even argue that the Rust trend would be more hyped right now if they didn't make these changes. Since more and more people nowdays in the gaming industry actually care more about competetive games and not games that are easy to learn. Marketing the game to casuals was their biggest mistake in my opinion since they are also killing their streamers with it. One example is Warrior who used to be one of the best known Rust players with insane recoil control is now a fitness influencer because he quit Rust after it went to shit. People would either have to buy guns early on for scrap(taking a fair risk, power that comes with risk), kill someone for a gun which is fine and this would incentivize more player interaction/shops for specific items that are far diwn tech tree for you. Hi June you probably won't even read this but you hit the nail on the head.
Problem with rust is progression,it happens too fast and game becomes repetitive. Hence why most people play a wipe 2 days and quit.
We should take ideas from similar games like ark and conan exile.
Introducing benches and unlockable "engrams". Example
To craft stone you should make a bench and craft mortar etc.
To craft guns make a bench that craft components then slowly allows you to make better guns.
To drive a heli ,should make missions or take lessons and get a licence first.
Also making game more unpredictable. Like obscure the map at spawn and you uncover the map as you travel through it,that would stop the rush for the best spot.
Also access to higher monuments could be made harder,in addition to cards and fuse maybe add something else needed to access ...I have many more ideas that could extend the progression.
Also offlining is a big issue. Structures should take 50% less damage after 15 mins last UI member disconnects and tc access should be maxed out to match UI ,8 man UI then Max 8 ppl auth to tc....

I miss the days when you had the play the scrap "lottery" hoping to get the blueprint you wanted from a workbench, or else going out and finding it to research - I used to explore the whole map doing this and interacting with people, trading for the item or component I needed - it seemed that this random acquisition mechanic leveled the playing field a bit and it took the better part of a week for most people to gain tier 2. Now, it's just like you said - repetitive farm a road not leaving a square or 2 of area on the map to easily stockpile scrap and gain tier 2/3 without leaving the comfort of your base/area in a couple days. No player interaction/ kos from larger groups who don't have to farm because they just farm the farmers with their higher numbers and therefor faster progression in the game. As a solo, I used to be able to play a week or two of wipe consistently before I had to worry about being raided so It was something I looked forward to, I actually had the time to have actual experiences in game that made me want to keep going. Now, I only consider Rust a weekend game at best because 2 days is all I can manage before I'm raided by a group that ground out as much as I did in a tenth the time.

A workbench should be made only to make the items you have unlocked. Only things that should be auto learned are electricity. Scrap should be only used for things that can be bought at outposts/vending machines. Allow the research bench to still be in the game to learn items you pick up out in the world to skip having to do the “quest” that locks the item you want behind it. The change to recoil only leveled the playing field, it shouldn't take thousands of hours just to be able to shoot a gun in a straight line. All that serves the purpose of is killing off new players since they can't do shit for thousands for hours. Not everyone eats, sleeps and breathes rust (not everyones a UA-camr/streamer) and they shouldn't be punished for having other things in life besides the game. The new recoil levelled the playing field and content creators videos have proven that. It's bad enough being offlined constantly.

But i always feel like the small groups have nothing to compete against the larger groups. And once again, i dont know how it can be changed, but i feel like there should be more stuff to help small groups, especially early game. In a 1v3 it just feels hopeless, because no matter how good you are, you will most times lose, same with a 3v5 or 3v6 you almost always just wont win, and i think this is why Grubbing is promoted so much, since they know its unwinnable fights, and they can even out the numbers by instantly killing a player with a double barrel, or some other ratty strategy.

Servers die out quickly, and the fact that it's pretty straight forward getting to end-game gear by the end of day one is ridiculous. Rust just doesn't feel like a struggle or like survival anymore. I would love to see most of the tech tree removed... it doesn't have to be everything, but at least the major items the speed up the progression, and therefore the death, of a server. One cool idea I saw, though likely impractical, is making different types of scrap. You could use these different types to tech tree the smaller things like electrical branch, furnace, etc. And different monuments would be more heavy in different types of scrap, forcing you to travel and hit a variety of monuments.

It is just a scrap rat race and theres no longer any excitement finding huge items/BPs at monuments and having to run it back to base. I think another major major problem with the game is that they continue to introduce new content at the already high ceiling that only clans or individuals that play all day will get (attack heli is the best example). Im not sure what the thinking is? Keep progressing these players higher in tech until theyre shitting on fresh spawns from space with ships or satallites? They need to add more content to early or mid game that makes progression more enjoyable. Ive also said the same about the tech tree, remove all guns or high quality items. Its fine for simple BPs. I also think oilrig and cargo need a complete rework... maybe only turning on days into a wipe or requiring an elaborate set of steps to activate. They are way to simple to run early on and then later to be held by big groups that run it on a timer.

The fact that they're asking about small fixes means that the devs only want a quick fix to the game, and haven't thought that years of bad updates has been ruining their game.

I enjoy rust in 2023 and i've been playing since 2016. Also there are different servers to match you're playstyle.
If you want to just go guns plazing for a day or 2 from you 2by2 then a 2times server or a modded server would be your bet. If you want to build a large base, have a mixture of fun but also calm moments where u can interact with your server or setup RP shops or among other things then Rusty moose monthly or rustoria monthly is your bet.
Weekly vanilla servers do die in like 2 days so if u want want weekend fun on a vanilla server then a weekly server is for you.
Thing's I would take away or nerf in the game is the tubes that suck loot into your base from furnaces etc. I would also make it where u can only have 5 players in your team in order to nerf big clans a little bit. I would also up the price in minicopters and now the new helicopters that way people aren't safely free roaming in the game.
I play on moose monthly and biweekly and i've completely forgotten about blue prints since i never have to farm them. I enjoy having No BP's because me and my trio can go straight from farming for a base, getting comps for guns and then focus on pvp and raiding.

my main problem is just the lack of onlines you get, I've been onlined 2 times in 2000 hours over 2-3 years, and they cant fix it with the game they have now, if they make boom easier to get then everyone will get offlined, they make boom harder then no one will online because they don't want to lose all their progress, they just need to make rust back to what it was, where you could actually get good pvp where you don't get roofcamped and people actually take guns out of their base because to get a kit you cant run the roads for 5 minutes

I don’t think you understand that it’s easy for you, postys, and taculars but it actually hard for other people to progress. Rust does need to fix its system but for new players it’s going to make it hell.

Rust will never die simply for the fact that there is no game like it. However the game is becoming harder and harder to enjoy especially for new players or solo/duo teams. The game is catering to clans and large groups there needs to be some sort of middle ground.

its still good game in my opinion. i agree about the drone and outpost, but it really comes down to how you play the game. living a simple life in a fishing shack or a small farm, painting a picture here and there. don't need to kill everyone all the time to have fun in this game. maybe next time you see a naked, invite them in for a cup of tea instead of shooting them in the head. just maybe you'll find a friend and maybe even a lover.

Purchasing items from outpost should be randomized and have a limit of how much is sold.

The only thing that caused me to stop playing rust are the cheaters. There is no point to be creative with your TC placement as they can ESP and see exactly where it is. I started playing on official servers which I loved but the cheaters and how much they get away with just ruined the time I was putting into the game. If they fixed this one thing, I'd be back on board again with playing.

Tech tree shouldn’t be the only way of progression, yet it is. The only other way I’ve seen for progressing in this game is farming and gathering the shit on your own (which is near impossible and always has been especially now with huge clans) or being a rat. It’s pain, pure pain.

Yea i wish they had unlocks. Like as the month goes on. Things start to open up. We should be in prim way longer than 10 minutes. And then as the month goes on it gets more and more monuments tonopen up and you progress from prim to tier 1 to tier 3. To the end where bradleys roam the road and the jets fly the sky and blow everything up for wipe. Thats my take on it
