To me this music feels like waiting in an airport late at night or in a hotel lobby at 3am. A kind of solitude that doesnt feel isolating. Kind of like being in your own bubble or a fly on the wall experiencing your own unique slice of the universe. It's a very humbling, refreshing space to be in.

@moradred hmmm interesting. You are right but I feel like liminal spaces give me more creepy vibes than peaceful vibes. I guess I chose the places and times I did because they provide enough movement to feel like living, breathing places, but quiet enough to invite reflection. A library wouldn't work, though. Too much movement lol. I may be rambling but I've actually been thinking a lot about the emotions this video makes me feel and the places it brings me to. I've been trying to pinpoint what it is and getting lost in that web of thoughts is fun. Lol anyway. Don't mean to disrespect you. A discussion would be sick.
Those chord stabs when the far left bar hits… I’m addicted. I NEED to know how you got that sound. It’s such a full spectrum synth. God every time it hits I feel so happy
No, there's an expanding rectangle inside the zone that reaches full size every 5th far left bar drop. That's when the chord hits. But yeah it's sick as hell
Sounds a bit like a lighter percussion boom (think kick or snare with a bunch of reverb) with a low, sustained piano chord (there might be a bass, or the piano-esque sound just has the low end raised)
11:32 (the exact halfway point) was bloody magical. The chord stab with the leftmost note together with the biggest desync in the polyrhythm was lovely.
Thanks, your comment made me look at the runtime and realise the video is almost five hours long ! If it weren't for you, I would have probably stayed here for five hours and not even noticed 😅
Yeah, I made note of that too. Steve Reich did something similar with two tape machines that ran at slightly different rates of the same violin riff -- Violin Phase. This is much more beautiful, because the phasing is from 15 independent notes of changing chords instead of two fixed sequences. So much more complex and constantly evolving. And yes, the lovely full chord every 4 bars. I'm in my second cycle. Lovely ambient math music.
You should watch it in its entirety though, there are also quads, triplets and the half that hit hard. The build up causes you to get goosebumps in the moment it hits on those specific points.
I love the emergent rational numbers that can be found in the number of arpeggiating groups within this cycle. 1/2 of the way through the cycle there are two arpeggiating groups (11:30). 1/3 and 2/3 of the way through the cycle there are three arpeggiating groups (7:40, 15:20). 1/4 and 3/4 of the way there are four arpeggiating groups (5:45, 17:15). etc.
Changing the key according to the lowest frequency is the best idea on this kind of video / rendering I've seen so far. It breaks the monotony other videos can have. Wonderful.
when I was in Texas last I didn't realize how good of a place I was in at the time, it was an unfamiliar place and I didn't get much sleep(if any) and I saw light outside.. not bright but dim and blue coming through the door's window. I saw *everything* in that horizon, I don't mean literally, I just mean I saw the sun and realized that their's value in it's wake of consumption.. it's a necessary destruction, even if I died right there and then, I've had everything I needed right there in that sunset at that time in my life. it's good, but I admit that I have a hard time connecting the rectangle that grows in the background with the bass hit. Maybe to improve the visual you could make it something more visually satisfying like the large orb in the stellar flow demo you did? A few ideas cross my mind... you could have the outer rect spin out of focus and then back in... or maybe have an outer rect that drifts and out of contact, like it was floating on a surface... or perhaps just have the whole rect slowly fill up with light from each strike of the far left hammer (since that seems to be the sync point). overall stunning sound. Thanks for sharing
@@LucidRhythms I can hardly wait for the next one! I definitely feel the care in design with each one... and really, that's probably the only thing that matters. Feels like someone sharing a cherished memory. It'd be neat if I could do that with my own work one day.
I like to play along with this on my AKAI MPK mini play keyboard. Just play all the black keys and then hit the arpeggiator, hit random and add some filters, chorus and reverb and leave it to play alongside this. It's very therapeutic ❤
this made me realize that maybe what music is, is getting from one place to another, and the journey there is the texture of its poetic geometry. In essence we're mesmerized by the our own sensation of inherent understanding that comes from being surprised but then understanding the journey at the intuitive level of a chord progression or a melody from one frame to the next. It likely developed as language developed as a sort of additional filtering mechanism to add additional meaning to a sentence or phrase or series of words to create differentiation from other similar sequences. Things like going up an octave at the end of a sentence when asking a question might obviously occur as a distinct method of applying meaning via intonation that wouldn't be possible without being able to recognize the difference between beginning middle and end as well as how they could carry meaning. It might be that the inherent advantage to ascribing more meaning to differences between tones and changes in pitch over the course of a sentence is so much that it creates a priority towards it evolutionary strength to the point of being a major survival advantage. This would then create numerous mental capacities, from music culturally, to mathematical rhythm, to pattern recognition, and so on. All of this is just me spitballing and using "music words" i don't understand, but it still feel like it could be true.
3 sets, varying in speed ans they overlap farther and closer over time, lining up in different ways. Patterns emerging by changing speeds over time. Pretty nice

This is perfect, it just totally calmed me down within minutes, thank you so much
it's good, but I admit that I have a hard time connecting the rectangle that grows in the background with the bass hit.
Thanks for the ideas. And yes, you're right. The visualising of the bass notes could be better. Maybe in the next video. :-)
@@LucidRhythms I can hardly wait for the next one! I definitely feel the care in design with each one... and really, that's probably the only thing that matters. Feels like someone sharing a cherished memory. It'd be neat if I could do that with my own work one day.
Your consistent efforts are paying off! » "Dedication turns aspirations into reality."
Loving the videos with the bass note/scale changes!
I saved it to meditate sometimes. Pure mathematic of sound, of our world structure, of us
Legit this is actually relaxing I turned it on not thinking and now feel suddenly calmer it’s very nice
Fell asleep to this last night. Best sleep of my life
The fact that this software isn't publicly available is really sad, I love every aspect of it. Great job mate
My favorite Lucid Rhythms video, the key changes make it so interesting
so relaxing, ive been so stressed out lately, thank you.
This is amazing... subbing, liking, and diving down the rabbit hole of your Livestreams and vids... thank you for this.
Order and chaos
I wish I had someone to experience this with
3 sets, varying in speed ans they overlap farther and closer over time, lining up in different ways. Patterns emerging by changing speeds over time. Pretty nice
Really superb what you’ve created here
this is so trippy and nothing i've watched this month is on this level
Fantástico! ❤
I somehow got lucky enough for the Algorithm to gift me this boon in my feed today. Subscribed and notifications on, this is so relaxing.
