I played Thousand year old vampire recently and loved it, my vampires story had a very sad ending where he met a descendent of his and unknowingly killed her driving him into a deep state of depression knowing he is becoming feral and sitting out watching the sun rise as he plays his guitar one last time as the sun turns him into ashes.
Thanks so much! Board games are awesome, solo RPGs are amazing, and the board game community itself is the greatest. Always happy to share some more about all the things I love! 😃
I have expanded Ex Novo from a mapping RPG into a journaling RPG. I use the prompts the game provides the carry out the game as per instructions. I then give 32 cities I have worked on a industrial development phase, the randomly pick 4 cities to have a major event, then give every city a political development phase. The journaling is satisfying.
That's an awesome take! I've heard of Ex Novo and have it on my list to try out... Although that list seems to only get bigger. Ha ha! Thanks so much for sharing this: Love hearing how games can be expanded a bit! 😃
I also borrowed a journaling rpg system and put it into thr fantasy world of the labyrinth. Its so good and playing an rpg based on that film was such an amazing idea plus I have also done terminator too as a solo journaling game that was so amazing too!
I write some games here in Brazil and there is a nice community for solo rpg here. Some are translated to English, and I plan to publish some of our stuff. Will come back later to relay the link. Apothecaria brought me here, got a nice review thanks to you
I strongly recommend Ironsworn (Iron Age, low-fantasy) and its expansion Ironsworn: Delve, as well as Starforged (sci-fi), and Sundered Isles (Age of Sail fantasy) by Shawn Tomkin. The system allows players to quickly create a setting from a series of pre-set truths, create a character, and go on all kinds of interesting adventures. Fiction-first moves provide a framework for play, and generous oracle tables provide ample prompts to help you tell a memorable story. The Ironsworn corebook is also free, making it an easy recommendation as a starting point into solo rpgs.
All great ideas, and I keep meaning to look into Ironsworn. Delve is in my collection and needs some attention! I appreciate your thoughts: All sound excellent, especially with the narrative focus and oracle tables, which are always appreciated. I'll be back with some more solo RPG videos soon! 😀
lol I love your energy! 😄 I just discovered solo rpgs and these three are on my list to check out! Since I’m new I don’t really have any recommendations, but I did hear the creator of Thousand Year Old Vampire wrote another called Old Morris Cave about a totally not evil cave that definitely doesn’t want to end you.
Thanks so much! 😃I hadn't heard of Thousand Year Old Campfire (Old Morris Cave) but that sounds AMAZING! You absolutely have to trust caves. Until you can't anymore, which happens at approximately 5 feet inside. 🤣
You're very welcome! I have even more at this point, and I really should get to playing and talking about some other ones. So many great options out there! 🙂
I'm currently working on creating my own game similar to apothecaria. You are a herbalist trying to find their place in the world. You explore and gain reputation.
This was fun to watch. These games sound interesting and worth checking out. For future videos, it would be helpful to have an overview of the mechanics or game play. Thank you!
Ah, great idea! I need to make some more videos and will definitely take this into account in the future, if only to highlight the general type of RPG to expect. Thanks! 😀
Thanks! I've been doing a lot of lists and single reviews, but working in some playthroughs, including ones for solo RPGs, is definitely something I'm thinking about. Hope you enjoy checking out the rest of the content on the channel, too! 😃
my biggest roadblock in playing solo rpgs is all the generating stuff. i love playing solo rpgs but those mechanics can get annoyingly complicated! so naturally im working on an excel that does it all for me, so i can focus on the rp and the writing
Thanks! I have heard of Colostle, although I haven't played it. I passed on it for a number of reasons at the time (most likely because I had too many solo RPGs!) but may need to circle back to it.
Thanks! That's a good lesson to learn, though: I always find new things in the board game and RPG world. There are times when it's hard to resist buying EVERYTHING, but when you know something's not for you, it can be very helpful! 😃
A while ago I was looking into journaling rpgs, but I didn't get very far. At the time I ran into a journaling game where you create a god, then invent that god's myths. It had a central american or aztec theme to it. There was a good sized demo version available from the designer, then more if you purchased. I can't remember the title, and I can't find it anywhere. I don't have anywhere else to ask, so I figured I'd ask here- does anyone know what I'm remembering?
Good question! Although I haven't played it, are you possible looking for Tales from the Gods? It's based on Thousand Year Old Vampire and sounds like what you're describing, but apologies if that's not it. Looks like the PDF is at least available at DriveThruRPG, if that helps. Good luck!
@@gamewardbound That was definitely it. Thank you. I'm not sure why I thought it's theme was central american mythology, but maybe the cover art? Still, that was the game. Thanks for the help!
I like them cos I can't find a lot of things I like and just plain writing it myself doesn't;t do it for me. Using cards and dice adds an element of surprise .
I'm In Australia these are very hard to get and I don't have a credit card. So most places want credit cards. I found one on Amazon but it wouldn't;t ship here .
I can understand how frustrating that must be. Have you looked at PDF options? Definitely not for everyone, but I'm currently playing a solo journal RPG with the digital version and enjoying it a lot. Possibly an option for you? Best of luck! 🙂

Totally new world of gaming to me.

Sounds interesting. Do you remember the name of the system?
Sounds like a lot of fun! I have Jim Henson's Labyrinth: The Adventure Game, which I hope to try out solo someday. Such an excellent movie! 😃

Thanks for watching!
Hey there! Any Brazilian solo RPGs you could recommend? Don't need translation to read them.
That is so helpful! Thank you Jessica. I now have a good starting of point for my solo adventures.
Yeah - she has a huge breadth of experience with solo gaming

I have been curios about solo Journaling RPGs. Thanks 😊
Where I learned about it too :)
You're very welcome! Hope you have some fun exploring what else is out there!
Thank you! I’ve been looking to expand my solo rpg experience! Not enough people shine a light on this genre!
I thought this was an eye opener too!
You're very welcome! I have even more at this point, and I really should get to playing and talking about some other ones. So many great options out there! 🙂
YOU made me subscribe to this channel ! 🤩
She is pretty awesome!
Hurray! Thanks so much! 🙂

Neat!
Sounds very interesting! Good luck as you continue to work on it!!! 🙂

I just bought a horror survival one, excited!
Enjoy!

Thank you for your suggestions... You have to try Magus by Momatoes
Just googled it. Looks very interesting
Excellent topic! Thank you! ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
You're very welcome, and thanks for watching! 🙂
Wonderful list. Will check them out.🤩
Do you know Colostle? 🤗
I'm not - but Jessica knows everything!
Thanks! I have heard of Colostle, although I haven't played it. I passed on it for a number of reasons at the time (most likely because I had too many solo RPGs!) but may need to circle back to it.
Good video. I plan to try the raven game. I would recommend Note Quest Expanded World.
Noted!
Thanks for the recommendation! Another one I just discovered is Fox Curio's Floating Bookshop. Looking forward to trying that one out! 😃
Enjoyed your energy as usual. Learned that solo journaling RPGs are probably not for me. Seems a little like homework 😉
You gotta enjoy writing ;)
Thanks! That's a good lesson to learn, though: I always find new things in the board game and RPG world. There are times when it's hard to resist buying EVERYTHING, but when you know something's not for you, it can be very helpful! 😃
My first attempt at a solo journaling rpg was Thousand Year Vampire and has a lot of fun. Does anyone know if there's a king/kingdom one? Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed!
Ah yes. More fuel for my most recent addiction of Journaling RPGs
:)
I feel the same way... I actively have to resist getting them all because every single one sounds so interesting! 🙂
Do you have links to where to purchase these? The only one I could find was the vampires on drive-thru rpg
Nevermind, slowly finding them. Thanks for the reviews.
Great
If you're looking for space exploration Alone Among the Stars is really good
Thanks for the recommendation
I've heard of this one and how good it is! Thank you for recommending it! 😃
This is amazing thank you
You're welcome, and thanks so much for taking the time to watch! 😃
:)
Do you have any public posts of the drawing/notes you've done for Apawthecaria?
I'll ask her
@@GamingwithEdo awesome!
Where do you buy your books from? This looks so fun!
The Broken Cask is a fun solo game where you manage an inn. Have u heard of that one?
Will have to look it up.
I’m just getting into this and wondering if there are any good videos you can recommend on the “how to” of solo journaling RPGs. Thanks!
Not sure - Jessica?

Que risadinha gostosa de ouvir! ❤
It's a great laugh!
Thousand year vampire should be called murder hobo the game.
lol
That does sound pretty accurate! Ha ha! 😄
