I painted a skate helmet using only watercolor pencils. I sprayed also a flatt clearcoat using spray can. Drawing on a helmet is possible if you have a bright and flatt surface. Not only spray paint is an option if you want to do custom painting on a helmet. Using pencils can be fun and gives your artwork the special and handmade touch of a handdrawn graphic. In this video I give you an insight in my handdrawn helmet artwork. I painted a gorilla, skull and lots of other things using watercolor pencils.

Tracing the design like this, with a big square sheet on a rounded helmet, its most probable to trace it warpped and looking wonky besides of getting it all dirty with the carbon paper on areas we dont want to!
There are more accurate ways to transfer the design to the helmet ;)

@@guido69x LOL, So you decided to come on here and tell us how you KNOW better but not how to DO it better? (Deep down you know that that's kind of a "d!ck move" right?) You could have saved us all having to witness your self-aggrandizing posturing and just watched the video and kept you comments to yourself. Your grandma probably told you "if you have nothing good to say its probably best to say nothing at all". "Secret is the soul of a business" hilarious! Look around son (or daughter, women can be d!ck$ too) your on UA-cam this platforms raison d'etre is SHARING. Heck! you probably came on here hoping to benefit from that very ethic. So to then turn around and point out perceived deficiencies without offering possible solutions or even the hint of a suggestion for remedy seems a little puerile, what seems particularly perverse is to then claim that you have a solution But that it's somehow "your little secret". Oh Vanity thy name is DrunkFunk. Any one over 20 knows that there is really no genuinely new Idea under the sun we are all standing on the shoulders of those that came before, not to mention that these days with Google I could probably find out how to do what you do in you Profession in less than an hour, if I really needed to. So in summary, next time follow you grandma's advice.

Good, clean work. One thing I've come across when clearcoating my finished work on a lid or whatever, is that I find I have to kind of "sneak up" on the surface with the clearcoat, especially when covering Sharpie art and the like. Regardless of the quality of the clearcoat product, I've found that it will make the pigment I'm coating run if I don't start by spraying the barest mist on it initially and letting it dry more than just flash off before proceeding with more substantial coats. I've ruined a lot of painstakingly- applied art on surfaces by just bombing the finished art with clearcoat without showing some patience in the beginning of the clearcoating process.

Do you know how to create a patina paint on an helmet ?
I have an old Cromwell helmet, and I'd like to repaint it with the same aspect as it orignally was.
By that, I mean a mate effect. But I don't know how to recreate THIS kind of mate black you can find on vintage motorcycle tanks or frames.
I tried an old tip of rubbing the paint with oily gloves while it dries but I'm not that convinced...

Martin, how do you get the Gorilla Squad transfer lettering? I am doing my own custom paint jobs on my RC Boats. These arent toy boats, my smallest boat does 72mph. I'm replicating an offshore race boat, STIHL offshore racing. I'm having a hell of a time trying to get the letters on the boat. Everything else was a breeze using 5mm, 3mm & 2mm masking tape to do the graphics. I printed the STIHL logo out and using an exacto-knife to cut it out but the paint is bleeding under the card stock paper.

They use a paper that allows them to trace their artwork onto it and then it instantly becomes a stencil. The difference is that, if you are not happy with the placement, you can wipe it off and try again. Might be something to think about. Keep up the great work! Love the sense of humour by the way!!!

You can degrease the helmet if you use a degreaser which is not water or alcohol based. If you have a flatt non painted shell you can direct paint on it without any prep. If you have a painted shell you need to prep it.

Guten tag herr Martin. I really impressed that pencils are good enough for such things. I want to ask about chrome painting. Some people say that chrome mirror effect extremely difficult to get. More difficult than usual painting. Is that so?
I decided to paint my bike same as Contador's 2015 S-Works Tarmac, because it's the best looking bike I've ever seen. However my frame is aluminium, and I'll, probably, polish aluminium and cover it in varnish... Not sure what to do yet.

    • @parfrykman3580

I'm far from professional painter, really far. This winter I used Martins DIY videos to learn how to paint my sons bmx-frame. I used only montana gold colors. Their chrome gold is lit before the clearcoat ( but so sensitive). If you touch it it Will be marks in it directly.
Even after when its clearcoated there will be marks. If one oversprays it with another different color the goldish background is to soft for the new color and you will have flakes falling of if denting it.
I'm ok with my paintjob but will never use cromecolor myself again. Cheaper, easier and way better to leave that to the pros.
You can check out the frame at bajkonconcepts on FB.
Loved this video Martin. Your jobs are beyond epic and videos are so useful. Would love to let u paint one of my bikes.
