I painted a skate helmet using only watercolor pencils. I sprayed also a flatt clearcoat using spray can. Drawing on a helmet is possible if you have a bright and flatt surface. Not only spray paint is an option if you want to do custom painting on a helmet. Using pencils can be fun and gives your artwork the special and handmade touch of a handdrawn graphic. In this video I give you an insight in my handdrawn helmet artwork. I painted a gorilla, skull and lots of other things using watercolor pencils.
Tracing the design like this, with a big square sheet on a rounded helmet, its most probable to trace it warpped and looking wonky besides of getting it all dirty with the carbon paper on areas we dont want to!
There are more accurate ways to transfer the design to the helmet ;)
And you mentioned not even one of them. Why? You are the god of painting. Let the world know about your super powers.
@@ETOE He doesn't like sanding >:c
@@ETOE "Secret is the soul of a business" Im not the one doing tutorials about it!
Im not the God of painting, but Ive been doing this for professional riders for almost 30 years ;)
Its my profession,I dont do it for the views or likes!!
@@guido69x LOL, So you decided to come on here and tell us how you KNOW better but not how to DO it better? (Deep down you know that that's kind of a "d!ck move" right?) You could have saved us all having to witness your self-aggrandizing posturing and just watched the video and kept you comments to yourself. Your grandma probably told you "if you have nothing good to say its probably best to say nothing at all". "Secret is the soul of a business" hilarious! Look around son (or daughter, women can be d!ck$ too) your on UA-cam this platforms raison d'etre is SHARING. Heck! you probably came on here hoping to benefit from that very ethic. So to then turn around and point out perceived deficiencies without offering possible solutions or even the hint of a suggestion for remedy seems a little puerile, what seems particularly perverse is to then claim that you have a solution But that it's somehow "your little secret". Oh Vanity thy name is DrunkFunk. Any one over 20 knows that there is really no genuinely new Idea under the sun we are all standing on the shoulders of those that came before, not to mention that these days with Google I could probably find out how to do what you do in you Profession in less than an hour, if I really needed to. So in summary, next time follow you grandma's advice.

14:20 talks over a minute about the right clear coat, but in the end he shows what to do. To keep it flat and simple, just grab a can... brilliant, uh I mean glossy ;D - great video Martin !!
Good, clean work. One thing I've come across when clearcoating my finished work on a lid or whatever, is that I find I have to kind of "sneak up" on the surface with the clearcoat, especially when covering Sharpie art and the like. Regardless of the quality of the clearcoat product, I've found that it will make the pigment I'm coating run if I don't start by spraying the barest mist on it initially and letting it dry more than just flash off before proceeding with more substantial coats. I've ruined a lot of painstakingly- applied art on surfaces by just bombing the finished art with clearcoat without showing some patience in the beginning of the clearcoating process.
This video is badass, like the ones before it. Your enthusiasm and sense of humor is contagious.
Martin, you have out done yourself yet again, love the video and love the graphics. Fantastish!!!.
So cool that you don't mind sharing and actually encourage people to make art. I've always been interested in painting lids, so thanks for the inspiration my man.. Keep it up..
Art is very time-consuming! This definitely deserves a Like.
Wooww. I am an airbrush artist and I never think in to draw with pencils and put the barnis over the draw...thanks for the idea. 💪🏻🎨
Whenever i watch your vids, I always realize towards the end, my mouth is open in awe. As if i'm catching flies lol. Brilliant job as always 👍
Same!
That's really creative and confidence building even for a beginner make changes or spruce up even the smallest of professionalism...
Your like the Bob Ross of creativeness... hello trees
Great video! Been airbrushing on helmets some years now, but I never thought I could use pencils. Thanks for sharing!
Hey ETOE I’ve been designing and drawing since the beginning of the that hobby I wanted to do and know you gave me a more depth of possibilities I want to pursue thank you
Very old school method but awesome results.

As always a work of art, just amazing.
Finish effect is better then I thought at the beginning, amazing job. Yours and your magic pancils ;) Thanks a lot!

Welcome!
@@ETOE my bro, u draw with watercolor pencil which means it is water-based. Is it okay to spray a clear coat directly or you need to dry the drawing first?
Beautiful drawing boss 👍👍
GREAT JOB SENSEI MARTIN .....YOU WORK IS AMAZING SENSEI....FROM CHILEAN PATAGONIA (PUNTA ARENAS CHILE) I LOVE YOU MISTIC ART GREAT MASTER,SENSEI,💪💪💪
Thanks a lot.
This is friggin awesome! I had no ida this is possible! Thanks for the video! I will try this on my next frame.

I love these kind of videos, hope you are making more of these
your vids are the best! thanks for posting them!
Thank you for sharing. You are a really talented artist. I am very impressed and glad that you share your ideas and technics with us.
You know every language 🤔 amazing 🤔 your creation impressive 🤔 everything instant 🤔
I really enjoy your tutotials. I painted my second helmet using your tips.
Do you know how to create a patina paint on an helmet ?
I have an old Cromwell helmet, and I'd like to repaint it with the same aspect as it orignally was.
By that, I mean a mate effect. But I don't know how to recreate THIS kind of mate black you can find on vintage motorcycle tanks or frames.
I tried an old tip of rubbing the paint with oily gloves while it dries but I'm not that convinced...
You dont have to do any prep work for the pencil helmet?? Also Id like to see this on a motorcycle helmet just to see
You have to deal with you and have because you are a true artist.
You are awesome. Wish I had a steady hand. Looks great, thanks
that's awesome stuff my brother!
Beautiful work 🙌🙌🙌
Wow! You are good in painting frames and drawing pictures! My hobby is cycling and drawing portraits.
Your job is fantastic ! Réal artist !
Amazing video!! Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching.
Just WOW. RESPECT Dude, I really admire to you !
Looks super, very nice!
Before you apply the stickers over the already painted parts, do you save the painting by clearcoat first?
"If you ask i will do it" ... Ok let me send you my cheap road bike for an awsome paintjob, haha.
Once again outstanding work, I finished painting my helmet today, looks great and only took 500miles of masking tape!!!
Hey Matin! Great work! I love it!! I didn't know your channel and I got a lot to catch up here :)
Greetings from Warsaw :)
Wow great idea sir.. thankyou very much
Very nice job..congratulation.😉👍
Nicely done. Would you ever consider doing a video of wrapping a frame in car vinyl wrap?
No it looks cheap and if you wrap tubes you have lots of visible seams. I don`t like that. Other UA-camrs do that. So recommend their videos.
Your videos are brilliant buddy 😉
Martin, how do you get the Gorilla Squad transfer lettering? I am doing my own custom paint jobs on my RC Boats. These arent toy boats, my smallest boat does 72mph. I'm replicating an offshore race boat, STIHL offshore racing. I'm having a hell of a time trying to get the letters on the boat. Everything else was a breeze using 5mm, 3mm & 2mm masking tape to do the graphics. I printed the STIHL logo out and using an exacto-knife to cut it out but the paint is bleeding under the card stock paper.
Absolutely amazing. Love your work, instant subscribe and like!! Thanks for taking the time to show us how to do this.
Great job 👏👍👍👍
You have amazing skills!
WOW! I'm speechless!
Best UA-cam recommended video so far today, I’m subscribing.
What a great job.... This helmet is so gorgeous !!!
I really love this. Could i possibly get the same effect if i just use regular water colour paint? Or would this work best if I did this in water colour pencil for detailing?
Good God you are a talented man. I have subscribed to your channel now as I class you as a genius and craftsman among men.
Very cool trick ! 👍🏽 I’ll try it !
I suppose it works only on white surface ? On black, the colors of pencils are not efficient ?
Super Sweet graphics man,Super Sweet.
Awesome Etoe!! Never cross in my mind before. 😂👍🏻
This video is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thank you!
Awesome would love to learn to do that
You sir are a very funny and generous man, Thank you for your videos. Keep doing what you do, and never skimp on the details, that's what most of us are here for. SKoL
Best design ever
That was a cool video..do another one🤘🙏
Thisis exactly what I was looking for but on a goalie mask.
doesn't the hand smudge the carbon traced drawing?
i love this video , nice helmet super cool
Quality work 👌
Thank you! Cheers!
Im just so in love with this design. Could I send you my racing helmet for a similar treatment? I have some ideas, would love to get a collab with you 🤞🏼
Heftig wie immer!!! Klasse Typ und absolut krasse Leistung Hut ab davor. 👍
Klasse Videos 💜 💚💛 🙋♂️
Just found your channel. I am a graphite artist, never tried watercolor as medium. Does or will this technique work for metal as well? As in fenders and tank for a motorcycle.
Cool, I always thought the clear coat would ruin the watercolor stuff. Learned something today. Now, where are my watercolor pencils....?
Great helm man good video
Hey Martin, Thanks for another great video. I am curious if you are familiar with stencil transfers done by tattoo artists. They use a paper that allows them to trace their artwork onto it and then it instantly becomes a stencil. The difference is that, if you are not happy with the placement, you can wipe it off and try again. Might be something to think about. Keep up the great work! Love the sense of humour by the way!!!
bro this is sick.. blessed
Epic work
Who wants to see him do a motorcycle tank using pencils? I think it would be awesome
Definitely!
Found this channel today and i have to say incredible work! Definitely going to customize an old helmet with awful colours sometime this summer 👍
As always brilliant video and amazing skills.
Qué chingón te quedó muy buenos trazos
Show , fantástico !!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing! I guess there is no way to de-grease or clean the helmet before clear coat? Also, normally you do a lot of sanding and prep before paint, but not necessary here with water color pencils?
You can degrease the helmet if you use a degreaser which is not water or alcohol based. If you have a flatt non painted shell you can direct paint on it without any prep. If you have a painted shell you need to prep it.
@@ETOE Awesome! Thanks for the reply. This is something that looks really fun to try, without the learning curve and expense of airbrush.
Just subscribed👍👍👍👍
So bloody good!
hey man, if i have posca markers to color my helmet, then, the montana cans varnish, is it ok to use?(no drips or anything?)
Hi Martin, great job on that helmet.
Question: did you sand a bit of surface before drawing with pencil?
Buy the whey u get a nother subscriber.
Cheers.
no
Arbeit wie immer großartig
Can you paint candy colours directly over that? or do you need to use a fixative/clear coat first?
Guten tag herr Martin. I really impressed that pencils are good enough for such things. I want to ask about chrome painting. Some people say that chrome mirror effect extremely difficult to get. More difficult than usual painting. Is that so?
I decided to paint my bike same as Contador's 2015 S-Works Tarmac, because it's the best looking bike I've ever seen. However my frame is aluminium, and I'll, probably, polish aluminium and cover it in varnish... Not sure what to do yet.
I'm far from professional painter, really far. This winter I used Martins DIY videos to learn how to paint my sons bmx-frame. I used only montana gold colors. Their chrome gold is lit before the clearcoat ( but so sensitive). If you touch it it Will be marks in it directly.
Even after when its clearcoated there will be marks. If one oversprays it with another different color the goldish background is to soft for the new color and you will have flakes falling of if denting it.
I'm ok with my paintjob but will never use cromecolor myself again. Cheaper, easier and way better to leave that to the pros.
You can check out the frame at bajkonconcepts on FB.
Loved this video Martin. Your jobs are beyond epic and videos are so useful. Would love to let u paint one of my bikes.
Отличная работа .
Is it a matte white helmet?
No way in hell I could do something this artistic, but damn that was satisfying to watch!
Stunning Skills 👍😁👍
QUESTION... Does the surface of the Helmet have a tooth for the pencils to grip to? How do you stop the sweat/moisture from your hand smudging the artwork?
BRILLIANT VIDEO... YOU HAVE A NEW SUBSCRIBER 👍😃👍
