That was brilliant, like the Blair Witch meets the Three Stooges enough suspense to keep me on the edge of my seat whilst chortling at the map fiasco. :)
Thanks. We had a blast. Check out the three videos on this adventure: Bob's, Bill's and mine. Each is a different take and together could make an awesome short film. Take care, ken
thanks for posting Ken. Good to see You, Bill, and Bob still actively in it Sir. It sure is different camping in Texas compared to camping in them Mountains up in TN. Glad it was a safe trip.
Excellent! This is certainly my kind of adventure, wish I had been with you guys on the initial bushwhack up the gorge from the river. Anyway, thanks for disturbing the bears, I went down there with some others the next day after you guys went back. That is a special place.
oh man , all the different versions of the adventures at the spring meet up has been so awesome.. you really do a great job ken capturing moments in time.. already can't wait for the next adventure my friend.. peace ken. ..bill
Good good good good good stuff amigos! Glad you finally got around to getting this uploaded Ken. Been eagerly awaiting your presentation. Another Texas camp out is in store for us in the future.
Ugh . ...life has gotten in the way of making videos... It may be a while before more are released.... Glad to see so many videos from you and others at the meet.
That was AMAZING Ken! I was talking to you guys the whole way though LOL I was talking to you about wanting to put a trail cam where the bear cubs were saying NOOOOOOOOOO LOL and having a little chat with brother Bob about losing the map!! Then that haunted cave later was AMAZING! What a GREAT trip my friend I wwish I could have been there how cool! Next year for SURe! Thanks for sharing. ~Dawn
Great trip there Ken. Great team work getting up that hill with your loads. I'm glad you guys did not meet up with mom, I know it would be cool to get some good pics but better safe than sorry. atb Opal
So that short bark sound are bear cubs? I could have sworn I heard that before last week when I camped out by the Delaware water gap on the AT. But dang ken, you're the only one there that seemed like you wanted to go in that cave, while bob and billy seemed to be scared for their lives. Heck, I would too. That rocky area didnt seem like it would have been an easy way to retreat from. That climb you guys did seemed brutal too, but that was some great teamwork with ropes and being alert for snakes. Great video, hyped to watch more!
outstanding job on the video Ken... man we really had a great adventure didn't we. I think you should take Billy Joe's, mine and your video footage and make a movie. Like we were talking about earlier. You can call the director's cut... I bet it would go viral. :-)
fun video. we sleep on our deck in summer and can hear mt lion cubs on hill be hind home. our neighbor found a deer stashed in his propane tank enclosure this past week we suspect a mt lion.
not sure what the problem was with the snake, I wasn't scarred in the least! I suppose the fact that I was watching the video from the comfort and safety of my computer room had a little to do with that. Seriously guys, great video, thanks for taking the time to take us along on the journey.
Wow , that was a pretty awesome trample up at those trails , particularly bushwhacked up the foothill to Devil's cave . It was such beautiful of copperhead.Heeey ,don't tell me the snake was sleeping when it full of stomach .When you were in the cave , did you get full coverage phone ? did you you find the bear cub in the cave ? have you managed to see the big bear ? How's it feel air inside of the cave ? did you camped out there ? how many many days ? is it the water flow is safe drinkable ?
We had a lot of fun. Our phones only worked when we are at the top of th mountain. We saw prints and heard growls from the mamma bear. She followed us up the mountain. Water is safe to drink only when purified. We brought water filters.
Great video, awesome trek. I think the "devil" in the name probably came from that bear mom. :) Glad you guys finally figured out that momma bear was not just going to kill you, but eat you. Good thing is there is safety in numbers and she would have probably had her fill with the chubbiest of you. Ha! Glad you made it without incident. Thanks for sharing.
Great video, just a dumb question I need to ask. When you were ascending the mountain, why didn't just one of you go up a ways with out a pack but with a rope and then haul up the packs separately and then assist each other with out the pack weight?
We did that several times, but only filmed it once. The last time climbing up a rock face with a rope, I did not have a pack... Thanks for watching and commenting...
Copperhead bite no worse than a bee sting??? That was a joke, I hope. For I had a dog and a friend that would totally disagree with that statement. As well as my grandfathers milk cow.
Current Management of Copperhead Snakebite. Walker JP et al. J Am Coll Surg 2011 Apr;212:470-4.AbstractOf all the major crotalids, copperhead snakes most often produce bites that are clinically mild, requiring only supportive care and observation. The authors of this paper state that death is rare; the chapter on snakebite in Goldfrank’s Toxicologic Emergencies (9th edition, 2011) say that “[a]lthough serious copperhead bites occasionally occur, no reports of death can be found in the medical literature”.The authors did a retrospective study of all snakebites that presented to their level III trauma center (East Texas MEdical Center, Crockett, TX) with snakebites from 1995 to 2010. The identified 88 patients bitten by the Southern copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix). Unfortunately, they give no information on how the snakes were identified. The most common symptoms were pain and swelling; 85% of these patients had mild, grade I envenomations, with no systemic manifestations. Ten patients had an elevated PT, but there were no instances of clinical bleeding. No patient received antivenom or required fasciotomy, and there were no deaths. The authors conclude:. . . a bite from a snake that is positivelyidentified as a copperhead (A. contortrix) can almost always be managed by observation, will only rarely require antivenom, and even less often will required surgical intervention.
anyone else notice the E carved into the tree he is leaning on at 9:53? I think you guys stuck around that cave a little longer than I would have for sure. I grew up in east glacier by Yellowstone in montana and it has a few bears lol but we get a few around every year and we were always told how dangerous a bear can be. but mother bears are responsible for more attacks than any other type. I have heard of people losing their dogs to bear the bear killed the dog right in front of em and there was nothing they could do at all. all because someone thought the cubs were cute and stuck around too long .every year at least 2 -3 times there would be a bear that would break into cars just tear the door open or break a window and clime in just destroy the car. you guys did the right thing to beat feet and leave before momma come back to see what all the noise was but it looked like a fun trip bet you were sore when you got home but that's how you know you did it right thanks for sharing the woods there look totally different to Washington were I am now on the Olympic peninsula a lot f underbrush you cant just head off bushwacking without some serious effort so much blackberry and salmonberry seems like everything is out to get you and to top it off everything is wet all the time but I do love it lol I am a sucker for pretty things I guess
KennethKramm I would have wanted to do that too...lol. But getting up the courage to go back and get the cameras afterwards would have been my only concern...lol.
Thank you for taking us to this amazing place :)

You're welcome Martin.
Wonderful adventure boys, show us more. Thanks ZZ.
Stay tuned my friend ...ken

"A copperhead not much more venomous than a bee sting." LOL
thanks for posting Ken. Good to see You, Bill, and Bob still actively in it Sir. It sure is different camping in Texas compared to camping in them Mountains up in TN. Glad it was a safe trip.

Thanks. No more jokes about mostly down hill! ....ken
Great trip there Ken. Great team work getting up that hill with your loads. I'm glad you guys did not meet up with mom, I know it would be cool to get some good pics but better safe than sorry. atb Opal
mom was close; she followed us up the mountain...
Enjoyed your video very much Ken, the cave looked glorious. Thank you. Going camping in the UK is a wee bit less dangerous concerning wildlife lol.
We had a blast; sometimes "a little" danger is exciting.... ken
Looked like a great trip. Wish I could have made this one.
We had fun Robert! ....but the adventure could have turned out differently ...ken
Really cool little cave. What's a hiking trip without a few wild animals and ghosts hangin around.
Surprises make hiking trips interesting.... Take care my friend. ..ken
Good video Ken.
One thing we don't have to worry about in the UK is bears!
Noel
no bears! shucks.... smiling ...ken

bear cubs make several sounds; they always were making growls, but the camera only picked up the growls from momma bear.

crazy adventure ken!!
You can say that again! Crazy Adventure ...ken
A copperhead bite is worse than a bee sting. It's a lot easier to go to the cave from the north east corner of the overlook parking lot
fun video. we sleep on our deck in summer and can hear mt lion cubs on hill be hind home. our neighbor found a deer stashed in his propane tank enclosure this past week we suspect a mt lion.
Yes, mt lion. ...Thanks for watching and commenting.

Glad Bob saw the snake before we stepped on it!
Yeaper a mom's bear nothing to mess with!

you just thrive on danger!
Yea! we had a blast....
Lol where are you guys from?
Euwww snake no bears no.still looks like fun
Did you really say that a copperhead bite isn't much worse than a wasp/bee sting? Stay away from mama bears.
Dorthy White would have seriously disagreed with you.
