- Matt Rife is facing backlash. The comedian, who rose to fame on TikTok, sparked controversy by telling a joke about domestic violence in his new Netflix special "Natural Selection." Amid the controversy, Rife took to his Instagram Stories to issue a fake apology. "If you've ever been offended by a joke I've told, here's a link to my official apology. Tap to solve the issue," he shared. The link that the Rife included takes followers to a website selling products described as "special needs helmets" for children and adults. Fact.
We can't be cancelling comedians, people! They say what gets laughs, and if we don't like it, we don't choose their videos. It's simple.
That's easy to say when you haven't paid for tickets to a show and getting something completely outside the reputation the comedian has established for himself.
@@matunos I get that about the ticket cost. I remember seeing a comedian from a family TV sitcom and being shocked that he cussed and talked about sex the whole stand-up comedy routine. I was shocked because he didn't do that in the tv show, so I didn't know he did do that in his stand-up routine. This was before UA-cam.
@@matunosbut he always makes fun of everything and every situation. That joke was typical of him i think.
I disagree. Comedy is always on the edges. It requires idiots trying to cancle people. "You cant say that" is exactly why Matts jokes are funny.
9 out of 10 times I'm going to side with the comedian in these instances, but I don't think "being a comedian" gives you the right to say whatever you want and not have any blowback. The vast majority of the population can tell when something is in good faith or not, and that's why they don't get "cancelled". However, there are instances (Michael Richards who played Kramer comes to mind) when people can tell that came from a place of hate, and then we don't see much of that person anymore
I’ve been a victim of domestic violence and I lmbo when he told this joke. It was funny, it’s a joke. And the link to special needs helmets was hilarious. People need to not be so sensitive.
So was my wife she was almost killed by her baby dad and she wasn't even offended by the joke. People are just doomed to be offended. Don't watch any comedy if you are sensitive.

I’m not one for identity politics but I’ll play this *one* time. As a person with disabilities who has suffered domestic violence: this is pretty goddamn funny! Especially the part about being the face of the company and the kitchen joke! And no, I’m not trolling.
How could I possibly laugh at this? Sometimes you just need to laugh so you can stop crying, and the darker, the better. Comedians are a gift to our species. ❤ 🧠
Preach! Comedy is such a powerful coping mechanism. This joke was fine!
I don’t see it being offensive. I am a survivor of DV. And we all take shit so serious sometimes. It’s so annoying how everyone is soft now a days. If I was so sensitive… I would have never had the strength to get out of that situation. But I did. And I look back and see that I was also part of the problem by not seeing my worth.
fine but did you think it was funny? i totally agree that we can laugh about any serious subject, but the joke was just dumb. it was straight up the kind of joke that middle school bullies would make. and so the apology disgusts me, not because of it’s nature (basically exactly the same apology in diff context would be funny) but because for me it goes to show that the more ‘sophisticated’ material he’s done previously is not a peak through the layers but acc just a cloak for his superficial, stereotypically jocky, dipshit humour..
u know what i mean?
Wow, well said. You're right, you are strong.
If this is your real life story, and the woman he is talking about is real, you wouldn't feel bad for her that maybe no one ever asked of she needed help or a place stay? People can laugh all they want but of she really was being abused she could have died that night and no one noticed her or said anything to this poor girl
So we try canceling people who joke about these topics, while we have people who have committed these actions irl still shitting all over our phone screens is wild
True
We have literal pedophiles in our federal government and we are worried about a joke though lol comedy is meant to go too far at times. Imagine people watching the 2000s comedies probably try to cancel those too

Def not the worst joke hes told...
The problem isn’t humor or comedy, the problem is people who take it personally.
But this isn't humor or comedy this is straight up saying offensive shit marketed as comedy and when wondering why people are upset about it
There might’ve been two abuse victims in there. One might’ve left and not cared, but the other one might’ve been really hurt and bothered. There’s just know one way about it. But the people that are freaking out out over nothing that haven’t had to personally deal with it, could probably just shut up?

Life it tough. Get a helmet, man!
I know why men can't understand why people are upset, because dv is not the thing that men go through much, and he was making fun of female victim here, not male victim,
So let me give you an example, let's imagine a female comic who recently got famous who is very hot and 90% of her audience are males get her Netflix special, and her opening joke is about sensitive topic like increasing male suicide rate, and straight up makes fun of men who are killing themselves,
Don't tell me men won't get upset about it, and if they get offended, feminists calling them incels or whatever and never acknowledge where they are wrong and put a link to special helmet page ,
Don't tell me you will support her and call every man snowflake, incels who gets offended over her joke,
And if that's you , then I feel sorry for you

Exactly
I don’t know why people even watch stand up comedians if they just get mad about the jokes
a comedian usually gets more famous by cancelling them, you want to see more of their material, I think this is an extremely calculated and smart move by Matt Rife, it's really hard to cancel a comedian when they are selling out shows and already have a large following.
Example? My first thought of a cancelled comedian is Louis CK, who has done comedy since being cancelled but you definitely don’t hear about him near as often as you used to. Maybe because he was already huge and then fell from the top so it’s a different story, but who are some comedians who got big after the fact?
@@petertippmann7271 he's released 3 new specials and a movie since. You're not gonna hear much about him in the media, you have to look for him. He's still selling out theatres and arenas around the world.

i love edgy jokes. As a feminist, i think misogynistic jokes are funny when done well. the joke from the dictator “is it a boy or an abortion” had me dying cause it’s so ridiculous. you can get away with edgy jokes IF you do them right. the issue is matt’s joke just wasn’t that funny… it’s not anything really new or innovative. idk if your gonna make an offensive joke then at least have it be funny. I understand that some people thought it was. that’s just my opinion 🤷
Why does Beyonce sing 'to the left'?
Because women don't have rights.
Really ? The crowd laughed. Nobody at the show had a problem with it. It's just an internet sensation, that he shouldn't even be sorry for.

You kinda lost me at feminist so no wonder the whole comment is so goddamn stupid but I'll bite. The joke doesn't need to be 'new' nor 'innovative' to be good, that's such a garbage argument.
The audience laughed and people on the internet laughed so the joke was obviously good.
The only people who got triggered is a small minority of woke lefties since just like always, they have no meaning in their life and instead they go on Twitter in order to have a meltdown over anything they can so they can feel like they are doing something and that their life has at least some value to it (it doesn't).
Some people don’t do context or nuance. Education and intelligence is not for everyone.
Watching people get angry about a joke makes the joke so much better.

Matt had a rough start in life. He lived in a trailer and he lost his dad to suicide. He suffered from depression and panick attacks. His philosophy is that you need to find a way to laugh about the things that makes you suffer. And this is what comedy is about. Making serious topics light!
