2:13 The attention and love of the mother for her child, the little innocent lamb. *Life goes on,* while the downtrodden donkey's life expires. And yet, the world that knew Schubert, Bresson and dear Balthazar became a better one.
The name "Balthazar" holds symbolic significance. In biblical references, Balthazar is one of the three wise men who presents gifts to the infant Jesus. That's why the donkey, represents innocence and purity, enduring suffering much like Jesus did. A beatiful reference indeed.

Man's inhumanity to man is, I think, less ubiquitous - and therefore less bad, than the less talked about man's inhumanity to animals, defenceless or otherwise. I would sincerely like to see those who abuse helpless animals receive justice in full measure. Anything less than that, which is life as we know it now, means the 'human' enterprise is still in a barbarous state, with little to be proud of. For this reason, that I despise my fellows responsible for animal cruelty. I would be content on behalf of this world's beloved, maligned animals, to mete out or see meted out, just punishment, no more and no less, but certainly in full measure. Because that and only that, will give such of our maladjusted fellows inclined to visit their barbaric nature upon animals, ample reason to hurt and to pause and to question.
Quel chef d'œuvre. Quelle émotion aussi de lire que tant de personnes anglophones ont été émues, et même bouleversées par ce film.
One of the most beautiful films ever made. Simple but moving.
The purification of the innocent soul just moments before passing away. One of the most beautiful endings scenes.
nothing is purer than this film
I can’t sit through this without crying
The most painful scene in a painful film, beautiful and sad.
Such a devistating but original movie experience. Probably the best ending to a movie ever
This is probably the most beautiful and original scene in cinema.
Divine masterpiece
Impossible for me to watch without crying. Masterpiece.
I find this scene to be one of the most powerfully affecting final scenes in cinema. And it's a donkey that move us so.
One of my favorite scenes, yet it's so difficult to watch.
Profoundly moving end to a deeply moving movie. This film scarcely fails to move even the hardest heart.
This shows how much we need compassion.

This is the most important cinematic sequence for the human race to internalize.
Simply one of the best movie ever!
The story of humanity! Without equal!
Dear Balthazar, you can rest now. It is finished.
"And he bowed his head and gave up his spirit".
Then Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.'

One of the most moving scenes in cinema

A metaphor of the world today.
