    Thank you for your video! I just replaced mine without any real headache. Much easier than I anticipated...(procrastinated for about 2 months because I thought Was going to pull out my hair doing it!). Now, I'm back with both machines running! Yay!

    Yes it indeed can be fixed! I purchased your cable and now I'm up and running again. Thank you!
    Another comment mentioned snipping the old cable head off and tapeing it to the new one and then pulling it through the wire chain. This saved me a ton of frustration. You still have to have patience and finesse, but now I have two engravers again.

    Dude, thank you. My cable was worn down to the copper and the copper lines were actually snapping in half. New cable worked great. Good video.

    Really appreciate you providing this cable. Just got mine installed and first print after repair finished. Won't be buying anything glowforge again after they said my machine was as good as ruined (from their own design flaw) and that "you should just buy a new machine".

    You are a lifesaver. Not to mention saving me $1,600 in shipping and repair from GF! It was hard, but I have my machine back!!! Thanks for the video step-by-step video and the really fast shipping on the cable. If I have any more issues with my machine, I'm looking to you first!

    Thank you for this and for selling the cable! I was really scared about getting the new cable in, but you were right, getting the old one out is the harder part! (and still not that bad!) Glowforge customer support said that they are unable to provide a replacement cable, but "a Glowforge Pro to replace the one that currently has a damaged ribbon cable will be $4,546, plus taxes. That includes round-trip shipping within the US." I was able to get just the cable I needed from you, for $85 roughly. What a difference. I hope you get more in stock soon. Thank you also for the prompt communication when I had a question. You're the best!

    I watched this 10 minute video 2x and ordered the ribbon cable. your shipping was quick - Thanks! Start to finish, I did the cable replacement in 1 hour : 10 minutes and we are back in business. Originally I was concerned about how to get the ribbon cable threaded under all of the remaining cords, etc on the "chain" ribbon guide, but that turned out to be much smoother than I was expecting. I purchased an orange small hook set from Harbor freight which was a great help, and I fashioned a ground down Allen wrench pry tool same as yours for top left cover. Since this was the first time I have ever had that cover off, it was perfect time to do some deep cleaning too.
    In the beginning, I called Glowforge for parts or assistance and they would provide neither. Much disappointment there, but glad I found your video along with others for support. They would never speak on the phone, would only send an email to tell me they could not help this situation.
    Thank you for a great video. It was exactly what I needed

    Hey! Thanks for this video. Quick question: my GF is no longer able to focus on the material in the bed (Set Focus and Autofocus are no longer working and result in an error every time). I think the machine is not communicating with the printer head. Have you seen this before? Any idea if replacing the cable would address this issue?

  • @davidsprague9395
    @davidsprague9395 Рік тому

    If you cut off the end that connects to the printer head, tape both ends of the new cable, then tape the new cable to the end that you cut off on the old cable
    You can just pull the new cable through while pulling out the old cable ..thanks for the video and new cable

    Would you advise taking that black piece off and covering it or sanding it before having issues with this cable? Would this prolong the life of this cable from the beginning? I've had mine about a year and a half. Could i go ahead and treat this black part to help? Would it help?

    replaced the cable with yours, and still I'm getting the yellow light. Im wondering if I damaged the cable during install maybe? Or maybe the printer head itself is bad. I really dont know what to do and definitely cant send glowforge 1800 plus shipping and whatever else for a refurb. Had it for just over a year and didnt use it much. What an absolute waste of 6k. Should have gone with a basic.

    We replaced our laser head cable thanks to you (what a lifesaver!), but somehow in the process one of the coolant tubes got a small tear, and now coolant is leaking. Have you ever repaired or replaced a coolant tube? It seems like we need to remove the chain housing to access the exact spot of the tear, but we can't quite figure out how to do it. Any advice?

    If you put painters tape on the old cable would it prevent it from catching as you pull it out?

    • @Cruizin542
      @Cruizin542  2 роки тому

      Are you trying to save the old cable? It’s not needed the reason for the tape is to protect the clip and keep anything from getting inside the connector when installing.

      Hello this more than likely is not your issue. If the laser tube is not lighting up and marking the wood there are several things it could be. One is the power supply, the other is the power cable that connects to the back of the laser tube. Neither is easy to repair sadly. Is it still under warranty?

      @Cruizin542  2 роки тому

      Hi, it’s hard to tell for sure since glowforge doesn’t share any info. What we did the first time we had this issue with the yellow light was inspect the ribbon cable. I noticed there was some black marks on the cable that looked like burn marks. That’s what made me pull the cable and test it and found there was resistance in it where it shouldn’t. I know pulling the cable to test it isn’t ideal but it can be done without pulling it.

    do you sell the ground down allen keys? I know it sounds so silly, but I don't know how to grind it down. Also have you ever done any repairs with the coolant tank/pump/hose? @@Cruizin542 my husband got a mechanic friend of his to grind down an allen key for us today, so I'll be able to try and pop off the side panel hopefully. sooo... the GF was cutting a job perfectly fine, when it finished the internet cut out so a few hours later when it was back on I went to switch out the material so I could start the next job and as soon as i reached for the lid I saw a bunch of liquid coming out of the left hand side of the machine (outside not inside the GF). I immediately unplugged and tried to contact GF customer service... they got back to me 2 days later and are telling me to pay to mail it to them and then pay another $1125USD to receive a refurbished one. (money grab).
      as the liquid was leaking the laser tube filled up with bubbles. Since i cant see any damage to the tube itself i am assuming it is either the hose, tank or pump? have you fixed anything like this before. I have called all over to laser specialists and no one is willing to work on a GF ugh i need help.
