This isn't a restoration, this is almost a rebuild. I admire you for wanting to restore it to it's original glory, and for keeping as much of the original wood as possible.
That will be a great property. Sometimes blessings come from tragedy, I think there is hope for HOPE FARM. May all those who enter her doors find hope, peace and love. 🥰
I love it that you are taking on this monumental restoration. It’s got to be overwhelming. But I know you will persevere and this home will regain the dignity it lost in the fire . I do hope you’re able to save the damaged furnishings. Have you thought about letting your viewers adopt a piece of the furniture to contribute to their conservation and restoration? I always look forward to your restoration videos! ❤
I watch mainly for the restoration part. I learn so much about everything. Seeing tours of old houses is nice, but I don't watch those episodes as often because I love watching you 2 bring historic buildings back to their original glory.
I so admire your tenacity and determination in doing these restorations. You certainly have had your share of setbacks to deal with. But your spirits have kept you going no matter what. It makes the finished project so much sweeter. Yes, taking a break was a good idea!!
You two always have such a great attitude when encountering adversity. You inspire so many of us to keep on with our projects. I think you should put a plaque up honoring the little tree that blocked the big tree from knocking down the whole cottage.
The restoration videos are where it’s at for me♥️I’m with you on fatigue this years restoration has killed me I feel old lol but it’s back to it next week isn’t it ♥️
Whoever stuck the bathroom in the closet is probably the same one that did the additions to our house lol there are so many weird things in our house. We also have the same brick floor pattern or close to it in our den as the brick outside Hope. Love it!
Restoration nation is a breath of fresh air. You bring the beautiful showings of these homes and knowledge which makes these homes more interesting. Thank you Laine and Kevin.
The fact the you are both still able to smile and laugh is a great sign lol. Just keep encouraging each other and it will all come together before you know it :))) The hardest part is cleaning up the old nastyness. Once it starts going back together it will be great!
I saw a wonderful 1890 house for sale in Walla Walla, WA yesterday and couldn't help wondering if Laine and Kevin would like to "vacation" in the Pacific Northwest!
Really enjoyed this update. I am so glad to see you two looking less stressed and tired. You seem like the happy and enthusiastic couple I fell in love with!
Please keep the restoration videos coming! It's completely understandable why you wait to post a restoration video until you have some progress/finds to show. Plus, the tours are a nice way to break things up. We're excited to follow this restoration.
I live in a 1914 cottage that has parts that were added in 1940s and then in the 1970s. You can see all the original house from the attic. I love this old girl. If anybody can bring Hope back, its ya'll. ❤ i can wait to watch her come back to life.
I love the restoration videos. I learn so much from them, and it's so wonderful to see something being saved, being restored, being brought back to life. I must admit, I seldom watch the house tours.
When you said "Grand Pre" I immediately had a flashback to when I read Evangeline in an English class many years ago. The story of this house is so interesting and kind of mirrors the story of Evangeline in a lot of ways. If you haven't read it you should look it up. I think you would really like it.
You are 2 brave, determined souls. I'm pretty overwhelmed at the work and expense it's going to take to bring back Hope but ya'll have proven before that you're up to the task. I'm pretty sure that your viewers are going to find out how to do just about any restoration job they may have questions about from this project.
I would watch y'all put up a stick anytime!!! Y'all know how to put in sticks like no one else!!! ❤ Just sooooo sorry about the cottage!! 😔 Hope it gives you a blessing when it just doesn't look like it ever could! Is it even remotely possible that the red oak (downed) tree could be made into something to use in the cottage?? Maybe mill it???? Well, y'all are awesome, we love you guys and hope it (Hope house) comes along to bless you both and so many others! ❤❤❤
Timber!! Oh my goodness! How scary. I'm so sorry about your windows. Hopefully the tree can provide some lumber or mulch. I feel your frustration that things take longer than you expect; I've had people who own modern construction homes, or those who rent, say ridiculous things. I don't want it to look modern, people! And I certainly get how the tired just seeps into your bones. Fortunately we much younger 20 years ago, but it was a real grind for 9 months, having two 1931 Spanish houses (one needed fixing up to move in, the other fixing up to sell), four mortgages, and 12 hour days combining our regular jobs with house rehab. And when you arrive at the other house and realize you forgot something? Ugh. I remember painting windowsills at the 'old' house, as chunks of ash fell from the sky and stuck to the paint; we were in the second week of the Cedar Fire here in San Diego, and the sky was brown. I love that you find such fascinating historical tidbits to share. Those house mysteries are great. Glad you have a good crew helping you. Happy New Year, Laine and Kevin!
Love the good, juicy stuff! You know, when I first started watching your channel, I didn't get it, frankly. But now that some time has gone by, I love the variety - the home tours, the Hope updates, the (ahem!) legal issues - there's always something new. And you two? You're ADORABLE. Keep it up, fellas!! EDIT: Is there , of Louise that could be incorportated into ? It would be so awesome to know that Louise still lives on somewhere in Hope, just like the beams you're salvaging!!
Please forgive me if I missed it, but is there any talk of you salvaging/utilizing the *wood from that fabulously large tree ? It seems, post potential damage or trauma, and although *brutally delivered - that you've got a *gift in its substance. Did you say it was a *redwood? My Goodness - potentially gorgeous floors, surfaces, tables - amazing . When you finish all the restoration, your place will shine, resume its fascinating, soulful destiny. Continuing to also admire your path as partners, and great admiration for lives consciously lived, and passions followed. Magnanimous and gratifying things in 2024 for both. (Can't wait to see HOPE come together!).
Oh man your poor cottage and windows!! But bright side of that tree falling is that you could mill that oak for new trim in the house. Or use it for support beams in a historic way. But all together you are doing a beautiful job!!
As much as I would love restoration videos more often, I agree that it's more satesfying if you post whenever some progress has actually been made:) luckily you give us house tours to keep us entertained while we wait. It would be nice if you posted small updates on your comunity tab tho if that's not to much effort❤
I love your restoration videos! It’s fascinating to see the original construction of this house which normally you’d not get the opportunity to see. And I can’t wait to see its progress over time.
I love the restoration videos because I learn so much. It's fun to see you in action from beginning to end. Can't wait to see Hope in person in March!!
The mantel looks pretty good!! Oh my Lord, you and Kevin definitely have your work cut out for you. However, I have complete faith in both your abilities and perseverance, and I know it will not only be beautiful but authentic. ❤
As much has been lost, much has been saved! To see the fireplace is amazing to see how you cleaned up the mantle is amazing. To see the floors in many areas intact is amazing!
YAY!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Love this video! Love you're dedication to restoration, carefully considering things from multiple angles. Love your ability to overcome huge issues....that tree, those windows! Managing all this is the Information we need. Mahalo!!
Thank you for even considering ADA accessibility ❤ my husband uses a chair full-time and we love historic homes but he can usually never fully enjoy them because of door widths and stairs. Also, my fave videos of y'alls are the restoration ones 😉
One of the historic homes moved into Stone Mountain Park for viewing, burned a couple months ago. I heard the insurance company is saying it’s a total loss. I’m heartbroken. I remember touring that house and the others as a kid.
This was fascinating! I had just learned from another YT video called The Pethericks who are restoring and renovating a 1700-1800 convent/hospital (Hotel De Dieu) and chapel in France what wattle and daub are. The framing there is also very similar and is oak. (bousillage ?) I am also so pleased that you both are recovering from your last strenuous project. I will continue following you as I admire you both greatly and love your teaching abilities along with your love of conservation. Wishing you all the best in the New Year!! HugZ 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
In Pennsylvania the old oil houses just need loving I am SURE the people there wish they make their houses to date, people don't appreciate the history I loved living in my Grandmothers house I would have restored it
When you were talking about the 100 yr old tree coming down, it made me think of some of the work being done on chateaus in France. Many have had to some extensive tree take downs of ones that are not safe. So many volunteer trees etc. that didn’t grow strong enough. Maybe some of the local arborists will come by and help you all inspect your trees.
You two are such a blessing and enjoy your videos. I am sorry that Hope had a fire and glad that the two best people are on the restore. Thank you again for sharing. I don't know if you have seen this book, I found one just laying on a table and had to get one. It is called The Majesty of Natchez, it has all the houses and streets with pictures along with some background information.
Funny how 'little projects' are nightmares. My husband & I built a 5' X 25' screened in porch, wainscoting for a 3' x15' hallway & a 15 step stairway but when it came to putting down peel & stick tiles on a 3x5 foot landing, it almost ended our marriage! 😂
I learned something today- bousillage. Including having to try some creative spelling so that the googles would direct me to the correct wikipedia page. Thank you for going the extra mile to explain something so arcane, yet very interesting.
Love all of your videos! The restoration vids are like a masterclass in history and architecture! So interesting and informative. Thank you so very much for sharing your journeys. Sending positive vibes and good energy your way forward in this challenging adventure!!
Sweet rambling cottage on the hill representing the evolution of Natchez architecture! Magnificent Oaks and Magnolias! A friend in New Orleans many years ago bought a Double Shotgun only it was really a single cause over half of it burned. Today you'd never know. Build on!
I love this, I'm learning about history, what was used for building materials of the time. My house is in Iowa, in town and my house is 120yrs old. ❤😁😆 LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!
I personally look forward to all your restoration videos! I learn so much and seeing the process is so much more helpful than just reading or hearing someone describe it. Even the slow boring stuff helps me to visualize how it all works together.

I give you a ton of credit. You have bitten off so much more than you can chew but I know that you will come through. I've been following you since the very beginning And I know that as much as this is a challenge you will do well. I certainly do wish I was in Natchez right now
Le début de la restauration de Hope est extraordinaire 🤩 bravo à vous deux et à votre équipe 👍and it’s a good house because it’s a French structure !!!😂😂😂🇫🇷🇫🇷 love from France 🇫🇷❤️❤️❤️❤️

I love the restoration videos MORE than the house tours. I learn so much from you both.

Same here!

I do too! ❤

As the wife of a disabled Vietnam veteran, mahalo for your efforts for accessibility ❤
Please thank your husband for me. My dad was a disabled Vietnam vet as well. ❤
I had to look up the word 'mahalo' and I'm glad I did. What a wonderful word! :)
I watch mainly for the restoration part. I learn so much about everything.

I have to agree. You need to let the body n mind have rest. ♥️😊👍
You two always have such a great attitude when encountering adversity. You inspire so many of us to keep on with our projects. I think you should put a plaque up honoring the little tree that blocked the big tree from knocking down the whole cottage.
😂😂🤣
I would watch daily progress videos as you two have a wealth of rehab/restore knowledge! Love what you do!
The restoration videos are where it’s at for me♥️I’m with you on fatigue this years restoration has killed me I feel old lol but it’s back to it next week isn’t it ♥️
The restoration videos are my favorite part of your channel😊
I don’t know how you would know how to begin. The work you have is astounding. Bless your heart.
This is what i love way more than house tours...restoratiom from ground up.

As horrible as the fire was, so much other history is now on show during the restoration. Gawd I love this channel!
LOve you Guys!! HEre's to 2024 that is filled with many blessings and love!!

OMG the miracle of the way that tree fell!

We are still trying to find answers for milling that tree. We’d love to use it for columns on the ell gallery.
Oh man your poor cottage and windows!! But bright side of that tree falling is that you could mill that oak for new trim in the house. Or use it for support beams in a historic way. But all together you are doing a beautiful job!!
MY HOPES AND 🙏 PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU !!! ALL BLESSINGS FOR A HAPPY NEW YEAR🎉!!!
what a project! Thanks for taking us along.
Wow! Some good and some bad, let's pray stays good. You just have to move on. Hugs
I love your intention to make Hope it's best version for 2024. It won't be original, but in many ways, better than before.

That Red Oak will mill up nicely!
We just have to get it dried! Wish us luck!
I love your restoration videos! It’s fascinating to see the original construction of this house which normally you’d not get the opportunity to see. And I can’t wait to see its progress over time.
There are no words. In Joy
Talk about work !!! Heavens !!! Looking forward to the completed structure.
I love the restoration videos because I learn so much. It's fun to see you in action from beginning to end. Can't wait to see Hope in person in March!!
I look forward to Thursdays at 8 am!!
The mantel looks pretty good!! Oh my Lord, you and Kevin definitely have your work cut out for you. However, I have complete faith in both your abilities and perseverance, and I know it will not only be beautiful but authentic. ❤
I LOVE the commentary you are so cute together and it shows how you love the properties
My grand children all restored a railroad dining from the early days it took a couple of years it is currently in the town square in Cheyenne Wyoming
Mahalo!!
😊 I hope you were able to board out that red oak to use in the restoration . That would be awesome.
We'd love to mill it but we're still looking into it right now.
That tree was massive!
Oh I so hope y’all will be able to mill the fallen red oak tree into usable lumber for your projects on site.
This is so very, very interesting, history and how the structure was built.
Thank you for even considering ADA accessibility ❤ my husband uses a chair full-time and we love historic homes but he can usually never fully enjoy them because of door widths and stairs. Also, my fave videos of y'alls are the restoration ones 😉
The restoration videos are my favorite! I love seeing things taken apart and being put together!❤️
So good the tree came down now verses when all done and you’re living there.
True!
One of the historic homes moved into Stone Mountain Park for viewing, burned a couple months ago. I heard the insurance company is saying it’s a total loss. I’m heartbroken. I remember touring that house and the others as a kid.

@@OurRestorationNation The Hope Farm is in there, I would send you pictures but doesn't look like I can do it here on UA-cam or FB
Love your persistence and love watching you figure it out and do it...

I applaud the ADA accessibility.
The two of you are amoung my heros for restoring Hope Farm.
That is great and looking good, too!
Favorite UA-cam show 😊❤😊
I love watching your restoration videos more! I enjoy seeing the progress and learning about the process.
Wow that tree falling was scary! I’m glad nobody got hurt!
You both do an excellent job with your videos. I really enjoy watching them. Merry Christmas and happy new year!

YAHHHHHHHHHHHHH FINALLY ALWAYS LOOKING FORWARD TO UPDATES
To be fair to the tree, I think it knew the addition was built by those cowboys you had and it needed to come down. Good tree.
Love your work. Thank you. I love the south too.
We love the restoration videos and want more!
Absolutely love this video and all of your restoration videos. I cannot wait to see each and every step of this restoration. Your love of preserving old houses and history warms my heart. We are such a tear down and throw away culture and this is so refreshing.
I somehow missed the finishing of the two houses, can’t remember their names, that you found the history of their lives in one of the rooms. I believe the big house was the husband’s law practice and the little house was their home. I remember she had been engaged and lost her fiancé in WWII. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the restoration and storyline.
I have been watching from the beginning. You remind me so much of my sister. I adore you both. We have deep roots in MS (Amite), so when you guys began in MS?! I squealed. Thank you for restoring history so that it can be remembered and learned from!!
I’m glad you’ll be keeping this home and living in it. Can’t wait for more of the restoration videos.
I give you a ton of credit. You have bitten off so much more than you can chew but I know that you will come through. I've been following you since the very beginning And I know that as much as this is a challenge you will do well. I certainly do wish I was in Natchez right now
Bless your ❤, what a project! Good luck…..anxious to watch….
Well I'm still going with Have a
Happy New Year🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉
I think y’all are great. Keep making videos love them👍
These are the videos we look forward to!!!! Loooooove this!
I love the restoration episodes!

I love this comment so much!!
