  • We got out of St. George a bit later than we expected, but it worked out fine. I REALLY wanted to check out the depot at Caliente, Nevada, but it was undergoing a remodel and was closed, so I broke out the drone. Once done, we hit the desolate hiways across the state and made it to our lodging destination of Bridgeport, Ca. at about 7 pm.

Thanks for pre-tripping this route. I will be traveling on it later in July. Didn’t see any snow at 8,000, so looking good. Thanks for letting me tag along.

The only snow we even saw other than way up high, was on the road up to Crater Lake. You're good, just keep the AC on. It looks like July is going to be a HOT one!

Well, that lets me remember our journey form Las Vegas to Yosemite (US 395) and through Tioga Pass. Maybe some 30 years ago. We stay that time for a night in Bishop, a little town on US 395. Was an expirence for young folks from germany. My sister in law got married a few weeks ago and it was there honeymoon journey. Great video Mark. Thanks.

I had a Muzak service route around Nevada in the 80s. Caliente is one of my favorite stops (as a railfan, it is a great place to see trains on that subdivision.). I agree that US 50 is not the loneliest road in America (not by a long shot). I elect US 6 between Tonopah and Ely (pronounced like an eel with a Y on the end :). Many years ago there were a couple of stops like Warm Springs and Current but as of now I believe they are closed. A long hot dry road through little civilization and even less water. Surprisingly there is an oil field (with no services available) in Railroad Valley (no railroad that I've found) East of the Junction at Warm Springs (again no services and no potable water). I just love the wide open spaces that are Central Nevada but beware. Bring lots of your own water :).. Thanks for the video.

That’s a cool area, I haul hay out of pioche occasionally. Came down thru Bridgeport yesterday, pretty warm for that area.

A spectacular trip! Thanks for sharing!
Interesting, I drove on U.S. Rt. 6 in Pennsylvania this past weekend for the first time (up from VA) and here you are driving on it in Nevada!

I used to run west on UT 56 to Modena when I was picking up hay loads. The loads used to go to Wilmington CA.

Enjoy all your videos, but this one was special. Too bad about Caliente, I'm sure you know the history of the place. We were there and stayed at the Shady Hotel. There was a small rustic restaurant, walking distance from the Depot. In the restaurant, assume it's still there. The story how the UP and the Salt Lake railroads met, and a Gun Fight erupted over who had the right of way. One man was killed. A US Marshall was sent to oversee the matter, and never resolved who shot the railroad worker. The dispute was settled in Federal Court. Only wildlife we saw were herds of wild horses. (Guess I'm not the only one that went over the speed limit on those long straight roads.)
