I am pretty sure copper is still the gold standard (anywhere). It is just expensive.

Well I know plenty of places in Europe where they still use copper pipes.
@@porcorosso4330For DIY, copper is actually not so expensive. If you use standard connectors they only cost a fraction of their crimping counterparts.
The real "money" goes into all the work soldering the pipes, that takes a lot of time compared to crimping.
Did my water pipes in copper because it was the cheapest option. For the price of all the needed crimp angles and connectors I could have bought twice the length of copper pipes needed. Was a lot of prep work for soldering everything but since I did it myself ...
