    Way more than a 18% increase . Yet cargo double in shipping was state approved due to pandemic yet still not being canceled . Plain and simple price gauging is allowed even though we have laws against it .

      Right surface reporting. Our reporters don't like to dig and get dirty. Really sad nowadays, they don't get down to the root cause. Just saying what everyone knows for years. Basic shopping plan, go to the cheapest place. But now everything is expensive. I tell people from the mainland about our prices and they just trip out. WHAT eggs cost that much!!! What milk too!!! Oh no even a loaf of bread... Okay lets not even go to the fruit section. Basic needs are expensive and we have all these roaming chickens. No wonder I see people following them around to find their eggs. Crazy stuff. Everyone knew prices wouldn't come down once Covid was done. Who is going to give up these types of profits. Report on that! What are these companies profit margins? How much more is freight than it was three or four years ago? Really!!!

      @@durshi01 Depends on where you are on the mainland too. Parts of Cali, Michigan,Washington, Seattle are sometimes even more expensive than here.
      I was super surprised that since Covid our prices aren't anywhere near more expensive than on the mainland.
      We have to SHIP our oil in why the fk is it more exspensive in a lot of the west coast states?

      getting to this root cause would be a worthy story... But our reporters don't dig sad to say. All this rent talk is a little off the mark. Are we assuming that this is the cause. These companies that open these huge grocery stores sign multi year leases and also get a discount since they one may have been a part of building out the complex as well as pulling in business to other stores. So is this really true? Rent increase? I feel that these stores are gouging the customers and need to be called out. WE NEED A WHISTLE BLOWER TO SPILL THE BEANS ON FREIGHT AND RENT...or a good reporter that actually reports on a worthy story and get down and dirty with facts. Not just eggs and stuff.

    • @durshi01
      @durshi01 5 місяців тому

      I agree that this is part of the equation. I can see higher prices in Hawaii Kai but why than are prices lower on the north shore? Why is gas cheaper in Hawaii Kai than Honolulu? How can one Texaco be .20 higher per gallon and they are only a few blocks away? The higher Texaco is busier too or seems to be anyway. Yup, it is our longshoreman bringing up these prices with their out of this world pay. Inter island shipping is also a challenge. What ever happened to that story about the state bailing out Young Brothers during Covid? What ever happened to that story? Did they really need a bail out and now gouging all the locals and new people moving to the outer islands or moving back to Oahu? How much $$$ was given and what is the return to the people? Are they turning a profit now? Were they turning a profit then? A lot of questions and a lot of stories that could be reported on. Sad that our news guys only do easy stories or surface reporting and stating the facts that we already know. SAD...

I remember once upon a time that these deliveries were made in small box trucks that don't take up a whole parking lot to drop of a few boxes. Totally mental. If this really is a factor than those companies need to higher new dispatchers or operations managers. These guys to me are just making their jobs easier by loading up a container driver when a pick up driver could do the job faster and easier. Plus the wear and tear on our roads. Ever wonder why you street is all bust up, observe what types of vehicles are utilizing your streets. Mine get plenty pot holes and speed bumps. The speed bumps are put in when our road crew dumps excessive amount of asphalt in the pot hole thus causing a hump. So on our road is like four wheeling off road. I know, Really sad...

    All these stores are ripping off everyone!!! Just go to Foodland, one day chips Lays or Dorito's (4.50$, still high), go the next day and what the f*&k!!! 8$ for one bag. Now look at Meadow Gold grape drink... before Covid almost everyday .99 a half gallon. now almost 4$ on sale is 2.50$. You gotta play the game and go to different stores to get any type of discounts. Have prices really soared this much? No wonder everything get so much upset people around Hawaii. Can not even buy the basics. McDonald's just as expensive as high end burger joints... why spend 20$ plus on shitty hamburgers that are made out of who knows what. Just watch that video that came out years ago. Buy local, I try but Foodland is driving me away from them. I used to only shop at their location on Kapiolani . Now I go to Times and Safeway. Safeway is expensive for certain items but a lot cheaper on most items. Times is the same. Foodland is all about timing. I think they would get more business which would increase their income if they would consistantly keep their prices down and not try to gouge their customers twice a month by selling certain items at their list price. Just look at KimChee - Safeway most expensive, Times, than Foodland. The one item they are consistently cheaper than their competitors. But we are 80% higher than the national average? Is that for real? If so, we gotta be getting price gouged which should be against the law. But I guess that's free market and they get what people are willing to pay for goods. Hawaii gotta wake up and stop buying when prices are expensive. They will lower their prices if we stop buying or it will just keep going up and up and up...
